These early American coins were
found in an afternoon’s hunt on an old
homesite by Larry S. with his GTI 1500.
Shown are an 1899 Indian head penny,
a 1928 Buffalo nickel, a 1905 “V” nickel,
and two 1940s-era silver half dollars.
Ian B. of Shropshire County, England, found more than 2,800 Fourth Century
bronze Roman coins with his Garrett GTI 1500. The hoard is seen above, along
with the remnants of the pot which once housed this great cache.

Last Stand of the Texas Cherokees details the migration of Chief Bowles’ band
of Western Cherokees into Texas and their subsequent struggles to obtain land
rights from the Mexican and Texas governments. Bowles’ Cherokees and twelve
other affiliated Indian tribes ultimately chose to fight a strong force of Texas
Rangers, Texas Army and militiamen in July 1839. Nearly 170 years later, author
