Appendix E: Choice Program User’s Manual Ron’s Photo Album Navigation F5 key starts the program. The Program begins with a five-second splash photo of Ron. The time that this photo is displayed on the screen can be changed by changing the program’s data file. After the splash photo, the program advances to the Choice Screen. Ron is shown four categories of photo albums to select Ron chooses a category by moving the mouse cursor over the category and pausing for a second or two. A category can also be chosen with the keyboard by using the F1 to F4 keys to select the category. After choosing a category, the program displays four Photo Albums. Ron chooses a photo album to view by moving the mouse cursor over the album and pausing for a second or two. At the end of the slide show, Ron can choose another photo album to view or move the mouse over the Back Button to return to the Choice Screen and chose a new category. After a short pause, a slide show will play for a couple of minutes. Slides are timed to display for about 15 seconds each. Once the slide show ends, the four photo albums will be re-displayed. The Esc key acts like the Back Button. With each press, it takes you back one screen in the program. Pressing the Enter key on the keyboard will manually advance to the next slide. Pressing the Esc (escape) key will immediately end the slide show. While watching the slides, the PowerPoint program is doing the work of displaying them on the screen and playing the sounds. A glitch from time to time may occur with the PowerPoint software. Microsoft has a history of selling software that contains errors. None of these errors will do any permanent damage to the computer. Pressing F5 at the splash screen begins the program again. Ron has no way, using the mouse, to either end the program or restart it from the splash page. Central Washington University New slide shows can be prepared with the PowerPoint program. The most time consuming part of developing slide shows is gathering the pictures and sounds. Putting it all together into a show is easy. ☺ The program can be modified to require mouse clicks for selecting choices. ☺ Ron’s preferences for categories and albums is being recorded. Modifications or diagnostics based on his preferences are possible. ☺ New slide shows can be added without changes to the software.
