Light*Seasons GPSbasedLightController UserManual XactrixofWashington LightSeasonsUserManualwww.xofw.com BattleGroundWA,98604 www.xofw.com Page1 Operation YournewLightSeasonsisaneventscheduler,muchlikeamultitaskingalarmclock.IthasaninternalReal-Time-Clock(RTC)to accuratelyschedule,andreliablyexecutedailyevents.Whentriggered,thepreprogrammedtaskwilleitherenergize/release theLoaddevice.LightSeasonsisanexcellentfitforaSolar-PoweredLightController. LightSeasonsdividestheyearintoeightuniqueschedules,orSeasons.EachSeasonhasfourprogrammabletasks/events repeatedeveryday.TheDefaulttasksaretailoredfornight-timelighting.TheSeasonstartdate(month/day)isuser programmable.Overalldurationisdefinedbythisdate,andtheStartDateofthenextseason.Toincreaseorshortena Season’sextent,modifytheStartDateoritsneighbor’s.Seasonsarelabeledonethrueight,andarealwaysexecutedinorder. SeasonOnebeginsJanuaryFirst.December31stendsSeasonEight.ShouldSeasonsover-lap,thelowerSeasonisexecuted. Thefourtriggerevents(numberedzerothruthree)operateindependentofoneanother.Foreachtriggerdefinesascheduled time(hour:minute),andatask(ONorOFF).Witheverynewminute,allthetriggersarereviewedlookingforatimematch.The searchbeginswithTriggerZero.Andonlythefirst‘match’isperformed;onetaskperminuteisallowed. NOTE:ATASKisEXECUTEDONLYATTHEPREPROGRAMMEDTIME.‘Time-Ranges’areimpliedwithONatthistime,andOFFat thattime.However,thisisnothowthisdeviceoperates.ItdoesNotRangechecktoverifytheLoadstatebetweentriggers. ForaccuracyandreliabilitytheinternalRTCisdrivenfromquartzcrystal.Andtoincreaseease,andreduceambiguity,theRTC operatesona24hourclock.ItdoesnotacceptAMorPMvalues.ForallPMentries,addtwelve(12)tothePMhour.Forexample 5:00PMis17:00hours.AndMidnightis0:00.TheintendedLightSeasonspowersourceisalargecapacitybattery…thusthere’s nointernalbattery.Thepresenttimeislostwiththelackofpower.Asaprecautionduringabriefpoweroutage,therestored time/dateisrecoupedfromthelastsavedvalue.Theactivetimeissavedevery½hour,andthenewDateissavedat midnight. AGPS(GlobalPositionSatellite)ReceivercomesstandardwithLightSeasons. TheGPSistheeasiest,error-freewaytoupdatetheTime,Date,andLocation.Thereareno settings,switches,and/orparameterstoset…it’sPlug-N-Play!Thissmallblackpodhasa6ft (1.84m)cablewithamatingPS2connector.InsertitintotheLightSeasonsnotingthecorrect orientation.Placethepodintheopenarea(asmuchaspossible).TheGPSishighlysensitive, andwillsoondetectSatellitesoverhead.Itisequippedwithanindicatorlight:Whenlitsolid, theReceiverispowered.Whenflashing,itissyncedtoasatellite.Note:TheincludedGPS Modelmayvary.ThisGPSpictureisforreferenceonly. Procedureto‘Auto-SettheTimeandDate. SimplyplugtheGPSintotheLightSeasons;Itisacceptabletoconnect/disconnecttheGPSwiththepoweron. Thisproceduremaytakeseveralminutestocomplete: 1. LightSeasonsmustbeon. 2. TheGPSlightwillilluminate,indicatingithaspower. 3. LightSeasonswillconfirmitscommunicatingwiththeGPSbyactivatingtheLoadOutput(Lightscomeon). 4. TheGPSwillbegintoFlashwhenit’s‘sync’s’withaSatellite. 5. WaitforLightSeasonstotoggle(blink)theLoad/LightsOnfor1secondandOfffor1second.ThisindicatestheGPS time,date,andGeo-Coordinatesarereceivedandsaved. 6. RemembertounplugtheGPS,foritisaPowerDrain!TheLoad/LightswillcontinuetoonorblinkwhiletheGPSis active. 7. Note:Thetime/dateprovidedbytheGPSisperZuluorGreenwichMeanTime.ThusthecorrectZulu(GMT)timezoneoffsetmustbesavedpriortoacquiringtheGPStime;theZulu_AdjustdefaultisPacificStandardTime(-7 hours).ModifyZulu_AdjustwiththeLongitude-Latitude(ll)command. 8. LightSeasonsUserManualwww.xofw.com Page2 InconcertwiththeGPS,usethedefaultSeasonsandTriggers.LightSeasonsalreadyhastheyear scheduledfordusktodawnlighting.Theobjectiveistoturnonthelightsinthedimmedhoursofsunset.Theyremainlit tillaftermidnight.Andthenre-illuminateintheearlyhoursbeforesunrise.Thesetriggersarepreprogrammedinto LightSeasons,readytouse,directfromthefactory.SeetheSeasonDefaultsindetailonpage6.Torestorefactory settings,ustheDefaultSeasonsdscommand. ProgrammingandCommands LightSeasonhasafundamentalsetofusercommands.Theserequestswillprovidethecurrentstatus,and/or configurethecontrolparameters.TheusermustfirstestablishCommunicationtothedevice;seeUserInterface/CommPort. Herearethegeneralrulesforenteringacommandorrequest: • Aprompt’>’ willqueryforthenextuserrequest.Itmustbepresenttotypeacommand. • Allcommandsareuniquetwo-characterabbreviations,thispromotesveryquickentry. • Eachcommandisexecutedafterthe<enterkeyispressed. • Typingthecommandonly,returnsitscurrentstatus.Thesamecommandfollowedbyparameters(orvalues)will updatetheinternalvariables.AllnewvaluesareimmediatelysavedinNon-VolatileMemory. • Allcommandparametersareseparatedbyasinglespace. • Unrecognizedcommandsgeta’?’(questionmark)reply. • Press<entertorepeatthelastcommand;alsoitwillindextothenextseasonwhenapplicable. • Enter‘??’foraquickHelpScreen. Time Thecurrenttimeisviewedbyenteringthecommandtm<enter.Thetimeisdisplayedintheformathr:mn:sc Tomodifythetime,usethesametmcommand,onlyfollowedbythreevaluesforhours,minutes,andseconds.Hoursare specifiedasa24hourclockonly…AMandPMarenotused.Thefollowingexamplechangesthetimeto13minutes,45seconds past8intheevening: tm201345<(allvaluesareseparatedbyasinglespace). SeasonsandTriggers Theactiveseasonisdisplayedusinges<enter.Byrepeatingthiscommand(withanother<enter)willautomatically advancetothenextseason.ThemostrecentseasonviewedremainsactivewhileaUserexchangeinisprocess.TheSeason Status(seenextpage)revealsthefirstandlastdate,andtheparticularsofitsTriggerEvents.ToChangethestartdatefollow theescommandwiththreevaluesthatrepresenttheseason-index,month,andday.Thefollowingexamplesetsthefourth seasontobeginMay17th: es4517<(allvaluesareseparatedbyasinglespace). TheendofaseasonisdefinedbytheStartDateofthenext.Seasonsareadvancedinnumericalorder.Intermediateseasons maybereducedtoasingleday,andseveralseasonsmayoccupythesamedate. Triggersareindexedzerothruthree.Theyareexecutedbasedsolelyontheirassociatedtime,Yet,onlyonetriggerisexecuted pergivenminute;andthelowerindexhaspriority.ModifyingTriggersisonlyrelevanttothepresentactiveseason.Tomodifya trigger,usetheetcommandfollowedbytrigger-index,hour,minute,andtask(OneisOn,andZeroisOFF). Toen/disableacertainday,usetwoparameters.Thefirstparameteristheday.Thesecondtheenable. Toen/disabletheWeekdayGlobalusethreeparameters.Specifyarangeofseasonswherethe1st parameter=1stseasonandthe2ndparameter=finalseason.The3rdparameterequalstheenable/disable.
