PS Manageme ent software o on all the servvers. On the primary servver the UPS w will be discoveered by Install the Dell UP me in the netw work tree diaagram Auto Search. To cconfigure shutdown settings, first click on the primary server nam and tthen configurre required sh hutdown paraameters. Add secondary sservers in thee Shutdown C Conditions op ptions box by en ntering their IIP address. O On the second dary servers, cclick on the server you waant to configure in the netw work tree diagrram and then in the shutdown parametters configuraation, choosee “Remote Shutdown by Aggent”. Enter the IP addre ess of the primary server tto create a 2‐‐way link betw ween the softtware agents. The softwaare agent on tthe primary server will broadcast sshutdown com mmands to th he secondary servers in the event of a p power failuree. uide Detailed Instaallation Gu Softw ware Installattion for primary server: Install the Dell UP PS Manageme ent software o on the primary server. Geet the latest vversion of the software from support.dell.com :  Drrivers & Down nloads  Cho oose model   Choose R71 10 server or similar  Systtem Firmwaree  Dell CD ISSO Image Once e installation o of the softwaare is complette, add the UPS to the man nagement console: 1. 1 Act as adm ministrator (d default passw word is to leavve the cell em mpty, just presss OK). Note that if at any time using this software you ur options are e grayed out, use “Act as aadministratorr” to restore yyour credentiials. 2. 2 Choose Syystem  Auto o Search UPS (later version ns of the softtware will auttomatically se earch for conn nected UPSs). En b. Choose your sh hutdown setttings. Availab ble options: i. Allow battery to disscharge for: tthe software begins shutdown of serve ers after x min ns on battery. ii. Shut d down when reemaining batttery time is beelow: the softtware begins the shutdow wn of serverrs x mins befo ore the UPS battery runs out. Begin shutdown immediately if b battery low: keep this opttion checked. Should the U UPS return n to service affter a power ffailure and haave low battery, a subsequ uent power faailure would leave the UP PS with little b battery power and requiree immediate sshutdown of sservers. To con nfigure the UP PS to restart w when a minim mum charge h has been gain ned, refer to LLoad Segmeent Control. iv. System m: Shutdown//Suspend. Ch hoose Shutdo own unless yo ou have a Win ndows system m which you wo ould like to su uspend (hibernate) instead of shut dow wn. v. Time n needed for sysstem shutdow wn: this is thee approximatte time requirred for the seerver to complete the shutd down processs. The softwaare uses this ttime to calculate a safe duration n the server w will be safely sshut down beefore from rrequesting a ssystem shutdown to when powerring off the UPS output power sockets. vi. Remotte shutdown b by agent: when running th his software o on secondary servers check this box and ch hoose “Add”. Enter the IP P address of the primary seerver. The prrimary server will serverr as the contro oller while the secondary server will function as a grroup memberr. vii. Run co ommand file b before shutdo own: optionaal batch file or exe file proccessing beforre system shutdo own commen nces. viii. Shutdo own condition ns: add each secondary se erver IP addreesses to this list: Add  IP P address of servver. This tellss the UPS agent where to b broadcast shu utdown and ccontrol messaages. NOTE: Configurationss made in this m menu are “OR” co ommands, mean ning that whicheever event happeens first will cau use an action. If timings are in con nflict (e.g. shutdo own 20mins afteer power failure,, but shutdown immediately wh hen battery low ((and battery IS low), the software will begin a shuttdown immediattely. This is designed so that a sserver doesn’t w wait for 20minute es to shut down even though there is no batteryy power remaining. Instaalling the softtware on the secondary se ervers: Instaall the Dell UP PS Managemeent Software on all second dary servers. UPS Auto Seaarch will fail tto find a direcctly attacched Dell UPSS – this is norm mal. he secondaryy server ID in the network tree 1. 1 To configu ure server shutdown settin ngs click on th diagram (SLOUKWE in this example e). 2. 2 Access UP PS Shutdown Parameters: Menu  UPS  Shutdow wn Parameterr. 3. 3 Choose “rremote shutd down by agen nt”  Add  Enter IP addrress of primarry server. General shutdown n parameters do not need to be configu ured here (the ey are already configured on the primary se erver). The only variables to configure here are: a. Check the “Sysstem” box to request systeem shutdown n in the eventt of power failure. Optionss for W Windows platf forms are shu utdown or susspend (hibern nate). b. EEnter the “Tim me needed for system shuttdown” which h is the time required for tthe secondary server to o perform its shutdown prrocess. Enter the IP aaddress(es) o of the secondaary servers ru unning the Deell UPS Managgement Softw ware. Secon ndary Server:: Menu  Shutdow wn Parameterr  Shutdown n Conditions : Check the ““System” boxx, then “Remo ote Shutown b by Agen nt”. Then “Ad dd” to enter the IP addresss of the primaary server (19 92.168.1.35 in n this example). Yourr installation iis complete. To test the ssystem, remove the input p power from tthe Dell UPS and wait unttil the pre‐cconfigured tim me options ellapse. Confirrm systems sh hutdown visu ually and thro ough event lo ogs. The NMC sships with SNMP disabled by default, so o this must bee enabled thrrough the acccess control m menu beforre proceedingg. All other servers should d be connecteed to the sam me LAN. Quicck Start Su ummary: All se ervers communicate direcctly with the Dell UPS Network Managgement Card. Enterr the NMC settings througgh a web brow wser (http://[[IP ADDRESS])). The default username aand password d is ‘adm min’, ‘admin’. SNMP functionality of thee NMC is disabled by defau ult, so enablee this in the Access Controll menu. Configure the shu utdown param meters directly on the NMC C. The NMC is read‐only sso changes caan only be maade throu ugh this web interface. Install the Dell UP PS Manageme ent Software o on all serverss. Add the UP PS to the softw ware through h Menu  SN NMP  Searcch Device. Input the IP address of the N NMC. The Deell UPS will bee added in thee SNMP tree menu. Click o on the Dell U UPS to see paarameters. Fo or each serveer (click on current server iin network tree view first) set the follow wing param meters in thee Shutdown Parameters menu: Select thee correct inpu ut from the drrop down boxx (SNMP, and ensure IP ad ddress is correect) Check the e “system” bo ox to enable ssystem shutdo own Enter “Tim me needed fo or system shutdown” Whe en power failu ure occurs, th he NMC will send SNMP siggnals to the D Dell UPS softw ware in accordance with th he param meters configgured on the NMC and thee appropriatee course of action will be taaken. ‐ ‐ ‐ Detailed Instaallation Gu uide Configuring the N Network Management Carrd Referr to the quickk start guide p provided with h the NMC in order to provvide IP addresss and other network settings. The card is DHCP enab bled by defau ult so you should change th his to a static IP address on nce you have access the confiigurations pagge. 1. 1 Access the e NMC contro ol menu through a web brrowser. You will be p prompted to restart the NMC for changes to take effect. To do this, cclick the hypeerlink at the ttop of the pagge, or visit Meenu  System m  Reset Com mmunication.. Note that th he “Reset Com mmunication n” button is close to the “Factory Reset”” button. 3. 3 Edit the sh hutdown parameters that you want to take effect in n the event off a power faillure: Menu   Shutdown n Parameters. Click on “Sh how advanced d Parameterss” to show all shutdown seettings. 4. 4 Refer to the NMC man nual for full information on n the control parameters, b but follows a summary of key points: a. In nverter: referss to the overaall UPS contro ols. b. Lo oad Segmentss 1 & 2: referr to the differeent banks of sockets on th he rear of the UPS which caan be co ontrolled indeependently o of each other (for example to shut down n non essentiial systems eaarly and saave battery fo or essential syystems, or to start some se ervers beforee others when n power returrns). i. Shutdo own if remain ning time und der: send shuttdown command when baattery has x seeconds remain ning. ii. Shutdo own if capacity under: as aabove, but expressed as a percent of baattery power.. iii. After xx min: initiatee the shutdow wn process aftter x secondss on battery. iv. Shutdo own duration n: time requirred for serverrs to safely sh hutdown befo ore UPS turns the outputt sockets off. v. Restarrt if capacity eexceeds: forcees the UPS to o wait until baatteries achieve x% chargee level beforee applying pow wer to the ou utput sockets and allowingg servers to reestart. Ensure that both UPS 1 aand UPS 2 are e visible on each of server 1 & & 2 through th he LAN or WA AN tree itemss. Now in thee shutdown meters for eaach software installation, cclick on the “R Redundant UPS” Input param Setting box and seelect both UP PS 1 and UPS 2 2 from the menu. The shu utdown settin ngs you applyy will now acccount for the status of botth UPS 1 and UPS 2. In neith her case do yo ou need to en nable “Remotte Shutdown by Agent” as each of Serve er 1 & 2 are d directly conneected to a UPSS. Serve ers 3 & 4: Maanaging shuttdown condittions from a rremote UPS. Install the Dell UP PS Manageme ent software o on servers 3 & & 4. Configurre shutdown parameters o on the servers in when choosing “Shutdown by keeping with instaallation notess for scenario 1 on secondaary servers. EEnsure that w remo ote agent” op ption that the correct Agen nt is selected to ensure thee correct messsaging (i.e. U UPS 1 to serveer 3 and UPS 2 2 to server 4)). Me essaging & & Email A Alerts To prrovide messaging to servers of your cho oice, access the broadcastt settings (Too ols  Broadcast Settings). Add all seervers’ IP addresses that yo ou want to brroadcast messsages to an nd then selectt which eventts you would like to broadcast. Note th hat the more events you select,, the more messages will b be sent. This service uses Microsoft Messsaging Servicee so ensure th hat you start this service to use the bro oadcast feature. To prrovide email aalerts on pow wer events, acccess the configuration me enu: Tools  Email Settings and provide the relevaant SMTP info ormation. Ad dd the recipie ent(s) email addre ess(es) and seelect which eevents to send d via email.
