LIMITED TWO YEAR WARRANTY ON CRAFTSMAN POWER MOWER
For two years from date of purchase, when this Craftsman Lawn Mower is maintained,
lubricated, and tuned up according to the operating and maintenance instructions in the
owner's manual, Sears wil! repair free of charge any defect in material or workmanship.
If this Craftsman Lawn Mower is used for commercial or rental purposes, this warranty
applies for only 90 days from the date of purchase.
This Warranty does not cover:
• Expendable items which become worn during normal use, such as rotary mower
blades, blade adapters, belts, air cleaners and spark plug.
o Repairs necessary because of operator abuse or negligence, including bent crankshafts and the failure to maintain the equipment according to the instructions contained in the owner's manual.
Warranty sen,ice is available by returning the Craftsman power mower to the nearest
Sears Service Center/Department
in the United States. This warranty applies only while
this product is in use in the United States.
This Warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which
vary from state to state.

PREPARATION"
° Always thoroughly check the area to be
mowed and clear it of all stones, sticks,
wires, bones, and other foreign objects.
These objects will be thrown by the
blade and can cause severe injury.
° Always wear safety glasses or eye
shields when starting and while using
your mower.
° Dress properly. Do not operate mower
when barefoot or wearing open sandals.
Wear only solid shoes with good traction

Do not fill gas tank indoors,when the

hot, Allow the engineto cool for several

MAINTENANCE
AND STORAGE:
° Check the blade and the engine
mounting bolts often to be sure they are
tightened properly.

frequent intervals for proper tightness to
be sure mower is in safe working

° Keep all safety devices in place and
working°
° To reduce fire hazard, keep the engine
free of grass, leaves or excessive
grease and oil.
- Check grass catcher often for deterioration and wear and replace worn bags.
Use only replacement bags that are
recommended by and comply with
specifications of the manufacturer of
your mower.
° Always keep a sharp blade on your
mower°
° Allow engine to cool before storing in
any enclosure.
- Never store mower with fuel in the tank
inside a building where fumes may
reach an open flame or an ignition
source such as a hot water heater,
space heater, clothes dryer, etc.

indication of damage; stop the engine,

Read these instructions and this manual in its
entirety before you attempt to assemble or
operate your new lawn mower,
IMPORTANT: This lawn mower is shipped
WITHOUT OiL OR GASOLINE in the engine,
",(our new lawn mower has been assembled
at the factory with the exception of those parts
left unassembled for shipping purposes. All
parts such as nuts, washers, bolts, etc.,
necessary to complete the assembly have
been placed in the parts bag. To ensure safe
and proper operation of your lawn mower, at!
parts and hardware you assemble must be
tightened securely. Use the correct tools as
necessary to ensure proper tightness.

• Remove loose parts included with mower.
o Cut down two end comers of carton and
lay end panel down flat,
o Remove all packing materials except
padding between upper and lower handle
and padding holding operator presence
control bar to upper handle.
° Roll lawn mower out of carton and check
carton thoroughly for additional loose
parts.

HOW TO SET UP YOUR LAWN MOWER
TO INSTALL ATTACHMENTS
TO UNFOLD HANDLE
Your lawn mower was shipped ready to be
used as a mulcher. To convert to bagging or
discharging:
,, Open rear door and remove mulcher plug.
Store mulcher plug in a safe place.
o You can now install catcher or optional
clipping deflector_
o To retum to mulching operation, install
mulcher plug into discharge opening of
mower° Be sure all tabs are seated
properly.
IMPORTANT: Unfold handles carefully so as
not to pinch or damage control cables_
• Raise handles until lower handle section
locks into place in mowing position.
= Remove protective padding, raise upper
handle section into place on lower handle
and tighten both handle knobs.
° Remove handle padding holding operator
presence control bar to upper handle°
° Your lawn mower handle can be adjusted
for your mowing comfort. Refer to "Adjust
Handle" in the Service and Adjustment
section of this manual

Sears rotary walk-behind power lawn mowers conform to the safety standards of the American
National Standards Institute and the U,S° Consumer Product Safety Commission. The blade
tums when the engine is running,

The operation of any lawn
mower can result in foreign
objects thrown into the eyes,
which can result in severe eye damage.
Always wear safety glasses or eye shields
while operating your lawn mower or
performing any adjustments or repairs°
We recommend a wide vision safety mask
over spectacles or standard safety
glasses.
HOWTO USEYOUR LAWN MOWER
"ENGINE SPEED
The engine speed was set at the factory
for optimum performance.
Speed is not
adjustable.
ENGINE ZONE CONTROL
&CAUTION:
.Federal regulations require
an engine control to be installea on this
lawn mower in order to minimize the risk
of blade contact injury. Do not under any
circumstances attempt to defeat the
function of the operator control. The blade
turns when the engine is running°
• Your lawn mower is equipped with an
operator presence control bar which
requires the operator to be positioned
behind the lawn mower handle to start and
operate the lawn mower.
TO ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT
o Raise wheels for low cut and lower wheels
for high cut.
• Adjust cutting height to suit your requirements. Medium position is best for most
lawns.
° To change cutting height, squeeze adjuster
lever toward wheel Move wheel up or
down to suit your requirements. Be sure all
wheels are in the same setting.
NOTE; Adjuster is properly positioned
when plate tab inserts into hole in lever.
Also, 9-position adjusters (if so equipped)
allow lever to be positioned between the
plate tabs.

° Lift the rear door on the mower housing
and place the grass catcher frame onto the
formed tabs on the rear door hinge

mower housing when the rear door is
lowered onto the grass catcher frame,

DRIVE CONTROL
o Self-propelling is controlled by holding
the operator presence control bar down
to the handle and pushing the drive
ADD GASOLINE
o FTttfuel tank° Use fresh, clean, regular
unleaded gasoline with a minimum of 87
octane. Do not mix oil with gasoline.
Purchase fuel in quantities that can be
used within 30 days to assure fuel
freshness.

_WARNING:
Experience indicates that
alcohol blended fLiels (called gasohol or
using ethanol or methanol) can attract
moisture which leads to separation and
formation of acids during storage. Acidic gas
can damage the fuel system of an engine
while in storage. To avoid engine problems,
the fuel system should be emptied before
storage of 30 days or longer. Drain the gas
tank, start the engine and let it run until the
fuel lines and carburetor are empty° Use
fresh fuel next season. See Storage
Instructions for additional information. Never
use engine or carburetor cleaner products in
the fuel tank or permanent damage may

Fill to bottom of gas tank

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE

Your lawn mower is shipped without oil in the
engine.
• Be sure mower is level and area around oil
fill is clean.
° Remove engine oil cap and fill to the full
line on the dipstick.
NOTE: Allow oil to settle down into engine
for accurate dipstick reading,
• Engine holds 27 oz& of oil. For type and
grade of oil to use, see "ENGINE" in
Maintenance section of this manual.
° Pour oi! slowly. Do not over fill.
° Check oil level before each use. Add oil if
needed. Fill to full line on dipstick.
• To read proper level, tighten engine oil cap
each time.
° Reinstall engine oil cap and tighten.
° Change the oil after every 25 hours of
operation or each season. You may need
to change the oil more often under dusty,
dirty conditions.

TO START ENGINE
° To start a cold engine, push primer three
(3) times before trying to start° Use a firm
push. This step is not usually necessary
when starting an engine which has
already run for a few minutes.
° Hold operator presence control bar down
to the handle and pull starter handle
quickly. Do not allow starter rope to snap
back.
• To stop engine, release operator presence
control bar.
NOTE: In cooler weather it may be
necessary to repeat priming steps. In
warmer weather over priming may cause
flooding and engine will not start° If you
do flood engine, wait a few minutes
before attempting to start and do not
repeat priming steps.

MULCHING MOWING TIPS
TIPS
o Under certain conditions, such as very
tall grass, it may be necessary to raise
the height of cut to reduce pushing effort
and to keep from overloading the engine
and leaving clumps of grass clippings
It
may also be necessary to reduce
ground speed and/or run the lawn
mower over the area a second time,
o For extremely heavy cutting, reduce the
width of cut by overlapping previously
cut path and mow slowly.
o For better grass bagging and most
cutting conditions, the engine speed
should be set in the fast position.
o When using a rear discharge lawn
mower in moist, heavy grass, clumps of
cut grass may not enter the grass
catcher. Reduce ground speed (pushing speed) and/or run the lawn mower
over the area a second time_
° if a trail of clippings is left on the right
side of a rear discharge mower, mow in
a clockwise direction with a small
overlap to collect the clippings on the
next pass.
• Pores in cloth grass catchers can
become filled with dirt and dust with use
and catchers will collect less grass. To
prevent this, regularly hose catcher off
with water and let dpj before using.
o Keep top of engine around starter clear
and clean of grass clippings and chaff°
This will help engine air flow and extend
engine life,
IMPORTANT; For best performance, keep
mower housing free of built-up grass and
trash. See "Cleaning" in Maintenance section
of this manual,.
o The special mulching blade will recut the
grass clippings many times and reduce
them in size so that as they fall onto the
lawn they will disperse into the grass and
not be noticed. Also, the mulched grass will
biodegrade quickly to provide nutrients for
the lawn, Always mulch with your highest
engine (blade) speed as this will provide the
best recutting action of the blades.
• Avoid cutting your lawn when it is wet. Wet
grass tends to form clumps and interferes
with the mulching action. The best time to
mow your lawn is the eady aftemoon_ At
this time the grass has dried and the newly
cut area will not be exposed to the direct
sun_
° For best results, adjust the lawn mower
cutting height so that the lawn mower cuts
off only the top one-third of the grass blades.
If the lawn is overgrown it will be necessary
to raise the height of cut to reduce pushing
effort and to keep from overloading the
engine and leaving clumps of mulched
grass. For extremely hearty mulching,
reduce your width of cut by overlapping
previously cut path and mow slowly°
o Certain types of grass and grass conditions
may require that an area be mulched a
second time to completely hide the
clippings° When doing a second cut, mow
across or perpendicular to the first cut path.
° Change your cutting pattern from week to
week. Mow north to south one week then
change to east to west the next week, This
will help prevent matting and graining of the
lawn.

RECOMMENDATIONS
LUBRICATION
The warranty on this lawn mower does not
cover items that have been subjected to
operator abuse or negligence. To receive
full value from the warranty, operator must
maintain mower as instructed in this
manual°
Some adjustments will need to be made
periodically to properly maintain your unit°
All adjustments in the Service and
Adjustments section of this manual should
be checked at least once each season.
o Once a year, replace the spark plug,
replace air filter element and check
blade for wear. A new spark plug and
clean/new air filter element assures
proper air-fuel mixture and helps your
engine run better and last longer.
- Follow the maintenance schedule in this
manual.

wheel bearings. Viscous lubricants will attract
dust and dirt that will shorten the life of the self
lubricating bearings, tf you feel they must be

Always observe safety rules when performing

TIRES
. Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect
control chemicals which can harm rubber.
° Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharp
objects and other hazards that may cause
tire damage.

For best results, mower blade must be
kept sharp°
Replace bent or damaged
blades.
TO REMOVE BLADE
• Disconnect spark plug wire from spark
plug and place wire where it cannot
come in contact with spark plug.
° Turn lawn mower on its side. Make
sure air filter and carburetor are up.
• Use a wood block between blade and
mower housing to prevent blade from
turning when removing blade bolt,
= Protect your hands with gloves and!or
wrap blade with heavy cloth.
- Remove blade bolt by tuming counter..
clockwise.
- Remove blade and attaching hardware
(bolt, lock washer and hardened
washer).
NOTE: Remove the blade adapter and
check the key inside hub of blade adapter.
The key must be in good condition to work
properly. Replace adapter if damaged,
TO REPLACE BLADE
* Position the blade adapter on the
engine crankshaft° Be sure key in
adapter and crankshaft keyway are
aligned,
o Position blade on the blade adapter
aligning the two (2) holes in the blade
with the raised lugs on the adapter.
o Be sure the trailing edge of blade
(opposite sharp edge) is up toward the
engine.
° Install the blade bolt with the lock
washer and hardened washer into
blade adapter and crankshaft.
o Use block of wood between blade and
lawn mower housing and tighten the
blade bolt, turning clockwise.
° The recommended tightening torque is
35-40 ft. Ibs.

NOTE: We do not recommend sharpening blade - but if you do, be sure the blade
is balanced.
Care should be taken to keep the blade
balanced_ An unbalanced blade wilt
cause eventual damage to lawn mower or
engine.
° The blade can be sharpened with a file
or on a gdnding wheel. Do not attempt
to sharpen while on the mower.
* To check blade balance, drive a nail
into a beam or wall. Leave about one
inch of the straight nail exposed_ Place
center hole of blade over the head of
the nail. tf blade is balanced, it should
remain in a horizontal position. If either
end of the blade moves downward,
sharpen the heavy end until the blade
is balanced°

o Remove any trash or grass cuttings
from inside the dust cover, pinion and/
or drive wheel gear teeth.
o Put wheels back in place.
• If after cleaning, the drive wheels do
not turn freely, contact your nearest
authorized service center.
GEAR CASE
o To keep your drive system working
properly, the gear case and area
around the drive should be kept clean
and free of trash build-up. Clean under
the drive cover twice a season.
° The gear case is filled with lubricant to
the proper level at the factory. The only
time the lubricant needs attention is if
service has been performed on the
gear case_
• If lubricant is required, use only Texaco
Starplex Premium 1 Grease, Part No.
750369. Do not substitute.

GRASS CATCHER
° The grass catcher may be hosed with
water, but must be dry when used.
• Check your grass catcher often for
damage or deterioration. Through normal
use it will wear. If catcher needs replacing,
replace only with a manufacturer approved
replacement catcher. Give the lawn
mower model number when ordering.
DRIVE WHEELS
Check front drive wheels each time before
you mow to be sure they move freely.
The wheels not turning freely means
trash, grass cuttings, etco are in the drive
wheel area and must be cleaned to free
drive wheels.

NEXT OIL CHANGE
NOTE: Although multi-viscosity oils
(5W30, 10W30 etc.) improve starting in
cold weather, these multi-viscosity oils
will result in increased oil consumption
when used above 32°E Check your
engine oil level more frequently to avoid
possible engine damage from running
low on oil.
Change the oil after every 25 hours of
operation or at least once a year if the
lawn mower is not used for 25 hours in
one year.
Check the crankcase oi! level before
starting the engine and after each five (5)
hours of continuous use_ Tighten oil plug
securely each time you check the oil

TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL
NOTE: Before tipping lawn mower to
drain oil, drain fuel tank by running
engine until fuel tank is empty.
o Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug
and place wire where it cannot come in
contact with spark plug.
o Remove engine oil cap; lay aside on a
clean surface.
• Tip lawn mower on its side as shown and
drain oil into a suitable container. Rc#k
lawn mower back and forth to remove any
oil trapped inside of engine.
o Wipe off any spilled oil on lawn mower and
on side of engine.
• Fit! engine with oil Fill only to the "FULL"
line on the dipstick. DO NOT overfill.
, Replace engine oil cap.
o Reconnect spark plug wire to spark plug.

AIR FILTER
Your engine will not run properly and may
be damaged by using a dirty air filter.
Replace the air filter every year, more
often if you mow in very dusty, dirty
conditions.
Do not wash air filter.
TO CHANGE AIR FILTER
o Loosen cover knob,
. Swing cover down and remove from
hinge.
• Pull paper filter out of air cleaner body.
° Clean air cleaner cover and body°
• Install a new paper filter.
o Reinstall cover to air cleaner body. Be
sure hinge is assembled properly.
o Swing cover up and tighten cover knob.
(Do not overtighten).
MUFFLER
Inspect and replace corroded muffler as it
could create a fire hazard and/or damage,
SPARK PLUG
Change your spark plug each year to make
your engine start easier and run better. Set
spark plug gap at .030 inch°
CLEANING
IMPORTANT:
For best performance, keep
mower housing free of built-up grass and
trash Clean the underside of your mower
after each use.
,_CAUTION:
Disconnect spark plug wire
from spark plug and place wire where it
cannot come in contact with the spark
plug.
• Turn lawn mower on its side. Make sure air
filter and carburetor are upo Clean the
underside of your lawn mower by scraping
to remove build-up of grass and trash.
o Clean engine often to keep trash from
accumulating. A clogged engine nJns
hotter and shortens engine life.
• Keep finished surfaces and wheels free of
all gasoline, oil,etc,
° We do not recommend using a garden
hose to clean lawn mower unless the
electrical system, muffler, air filter and
carburetor are covered to keep water out.
Water in engine can result in shortened
engine life.
CLEAN UNDER DRIVE COVER
Clean under drive cover at least twice a
season. Scrape underside of cover with putty
knife or similar toot to remove any build-up of
trash or grass on underside of drive cover.

LAWN MOWER
TO ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT

REAR DEFLECTOR
The rear deflector, attached between the rear
wheels of your lawn mower, is provided to
minimize the possibility that objects will be
thrown out the rear of the lawn mower into the
operator's mowing position. If the rear
deflector becomes damaged, it should be
replaced.
TO REMOVEfREPLACE DRIVE BELT
TO ADJUST HANDLE
The handle can be mounted in a high or
low position, The mounting holes in the
bottom of lower handle are off center for
raising or lowering the handle,
o Remove upper handle and all parts
attached to lower handle,
° Remove hairpin cotters from lower
handle bracket mounting pin.
° Squeeze lower handle in to remove it
from mounting pins.
- Turn lower handle over to raise or lower
handle.
o Squeeze lower handle in and position
holes onto mounting pins on handle
bracket.
• Reassemble upper handle and all parts
removed from lower handle_

° Remove drive cover. Remove belt by
pushing down on gear case pulley and roll
belt off_
° Turn lawn mower on its side with carburetor and fuel cap up.
, Remove blade.
• Remove debris shield.
° Remove belt from engine pulley on
crankshaft.
o Install new belt by reversing above steps.
o Always use factory approved belt to assure
fit and long life.

TO ASSEMBLE GRASS CATCHER
o insert leg of tubular frame through front
opening of grass catcher and thread
frame into sewn hem of bag.
NOTE: Keep bag hem gathered on the
straight leg of the tubular frame.
o When frame comes out the other end of
sewn hem, immediately work the end of
frame down inside the bag as shown in
inset.
o Slide sewn hem evenly around the
tubular frame until both ends of frame
are exposed out of the front opening.
• Assemble lower frame to tubular frame
as shown° Be sure handle is outside of
bag and frames are fully seated as
shown in inset.
o Slip vinyl bindings over frame°
NOTE: If vinyl bindings are too stiff, hold
them in warm water for a few minutes° If
bag gets wet, let it dry before using°
° Close the flip lid. Flip lid must be closed
while operating lawn mower.

Do not run your lawn mower
without clipping deflector or approved
grass catcher in place. Never attempt to
operate the lawn mower with the rear
door removed or propped open_

storage at the end of the season or if the unit
will not be used for 30 days or more.

When lawn mower is to be stored for a period
of time, clean it thoroughly, remove all dirt,
grease, leaves, etc. Store in a clean, dry area.
• Clean entire lawn mower (See "CLEANING" in the Maintenance section of this
manual)°
• Lubricate as shown in the Maintenance
section of this manual.
° Be sure that all nuts, bolts, screws, and pins
are securely fastened. Inspect moving
parts for damage, breakage and wear.
Replace if necessary.
° Touch up all rusted or chipped paint
surfaces; sand lightly before painting.
HANDLE
You can fold your lawn mower handle for
storage.
o Squeeze the bottom ends of the lower
handle toward each other until the lower
handle clears the handle bracket, then
move handle forward.
o Loosen upper handle mounting bolts
enough to allow upper handle to be folded
back.
IMPORTANT: When folding the handle for
storage or transportation, be sure to fold the
handle as shown or you any damage the
control cables.
° When setting up your handle from the
storage position, the lower handle will
automatically lock into the mowing position.

ENGINE
FUELSYSTEM
IMPORTANT: It is important to prevent gum
deposits from forming in essential fuel system
parts such as carburetor, f fuel filter, fuel hose
or tank during storage. Also, experience
indicates that alcohol blended fuels ( called
gasohol or using ethanol or methanol) can
attract moisture which leads to separation and
formation of acids during storage. Acidic gas
can damage the fuel system of an engine
while in storage.
• Drain the fuel tank.
• Start the engine and let it run until the fuel
lines and carburetor are empty.
o Never use engine or carburetor cleaner
products in the fuel tank or permanent
damage may occur.
, Use fresh fuel next season.
NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable
alternative in minimizing the formation of fuel
gum deposits during storage. Add stabilizer
to gasoline in fuel tank or storage container.
Always follow the mix ratio found on stabilizer
container. Run engine at least 10 minutes
after adding stabilizer to allow the stabilizer to
reach the carburetor. Do not drain the gas
tank and carburetor if using fuel stabilizer.

ENGINEOIL
Drain oil (with engine warm) and replace with
clean engine oil. (See "ENGINE" in the
Maintenance section of this manual).

COMO PREPARAR SU SEGADORA

La velocidad del motor se estableci6 en la

CONTROL DE ZONA DEL MOTOR

Las regulaciones federales
exigen que se instale un control para el motor
en esta segadora para reducir a un mfnimo el
riesgo de lesionarse debido al contacto con la
cuchilla. Por ningOn motivo trate de eliminar la
funci6n del control del operadoro La cuchilla
gira cuando el motor est_ funcionando.

PARA AJUSTAR
LA ALTURA DE CORTE

• Aseg_rese que la segadora est@nivelada y que
el _rea alrededor det depSsito de aceite est6
limpia.
° Remueva ta tapa del dep6sito de aceite del
motor y retlene hasta la linea de lteno en @sta.
AVtSO: Permitir quel aceite se asiente bien en el
motor para ler bien su niveL
• El motor puede contener 27 oz. de aceite. Para
el tipo y la calidad vea "MOTOR" en la secci6n
de las Mantenimento en este manual,.
• Vacfe el aceite lentamenteo No Io llene
demasiado.
° Revise el nivel del aceite antes de cada uso.
Agregue aceite si es necesafio. Uene hasta la
Ifnea de Ileno en la vafilla indicadora de nivelo
° Para leer el nivel adecuado, apriete la tapa del
dep6sito de aceite del motor cada vezo
° Vuelva a instalar ta tapa del dep6sito del aceite y
apfi_tela.
° Cambie el aceite despu6s de 25 horas de
operaci6n o una vez por temporada,. Puede
necesitar cambiar el aceite m_.s a menudo
cuando ias condiciones son polvorosas o
sucias.

GAsOLINA
• Llene el estanque de combustible_ Use
gasofina regular, sin plomo, nueva y timpia con
el mfnimo de 87 octanos_ No mezcle el aceite
con la gasolina. Para asegurar que la gasolina
utilizada sea fresca compre estanques los
cuales puedan ser utilizados durante los
primeros 30 dfas,
_h,ADVERTENCIA:
La exl?eriencia ha
indicado que los combust=bles mezclados con
alcohol (conocidos como gasohol, o el uso de
etanol o metanol) pueden atraer la humedad,
la que conduce a la separaci6n y formaciSn
de &cidos durante el almacenamiento,. La
gasolina acidica puede dafiar el sistema del
combustible de un motor durante el
almacenamiento,
Para evitar los problemas
con el motor, se debe vaciar el sistema del
combustible antes de guardarlo por un
peri'odo de 30 d[as o m_s. 'v'ac[e el estanque
del combustible, haga arrancar el motor y
h_.galo funcionar hasta que las I[neas del
combustible y el carburador queden vac[os.

o Bajo ciertas condiciones, tal como c_sped
muy alto, puede ser necesario el elevar la
altura del corte para reducir el esfuerzo
necesario para empujar la segadora y para
evitar sobrecargar el motor, dejando
montones de recortes de c6sped,, Puede
que sea necesario reducir la velocidad del
recorrido y/o haga funcionar la segadora
sobre el _.rea pot segunda vez,
° Para un corte muy pesado, reduzca el
ancho del code pasando parcialmente por
encima del lugar anteriormente cortado y
siegue lentamente.
o Para un mejor ensacado del c6sped y para
la mayoda de las condiciones de corte, la
velocidad del motor debe ajustarse a la
posici6n de r&pido.
o Cuando use una segadora con descarga
trasera en c6sped hSmedo y pesado, los
montones del c6sped cortado puede que no
entren en el recogedor de c6sped. Reduzca
ta velocidad del recorrido (vetocidad de
empuje) yio haga funcionar la segadora
sobre el _.rea por segunda VeZo
o Si queda una huella de cortes en el lado
derecho de una segadora con descarga
trasera, siegue en la direcci6n en que giran
las manillas del reloj, solapando un poco
para recaudar los recortes en la pr6xima
pasada.
o Los poros en los recogedores de c6sped de
tela pueden Ilenarse con mugre y polvo con
el uso y los recogedores recaudar_n menos
c6sped. Para evitar _sto, roc[e el recogedor
con la manguera de agua regularmente y
d_jelo secarse antes de usarlo.
° Mantenga la parle superior del motor,
alrededor del arrancador, despejada y sin
recortes de c_sped y paja. Esto ayudarb, el
flujo del aire del motor y extender=5 su
duraci6n.
CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR Y ACOLCHAR
IMPORTANTE: Para obtener e[ mejor rendimeinto
mantenga la caja de la segador a sin acumlacion
de cesped y basura. Vea "UMPIEZA" en seccion
de"Mantenimento" de este manual..
° La cuchilla acolchadora especial va a vo[ver a
cofl,ar los recortes de c6sped muchas veces,
y los reduce en tamafio, de modo que si se
caen en el c_sped se van a dispesar entre
_ste y no se van a notar. Tambi_n, el c&sped
aco]chado se va a deshacer r,_pidamente
entregando substancias nutritivas para el
c_sped. Siempre acolche con la velocidad del
motor (cuchilla) m_.s alta, pues as[ se obtendrA
la mejor acci6n de recorte de las cuchitlaso
• E_.4tecortar el c_sped cuando est6 mojado, El
c_sped mojado tiende a formar montones e
intediere con la acci6n de acolchado_ La mejor
hora para segar el c_sped es temprano en la
tarde. A esa hora _ste se ha secado y el ,_rea
reci6n cortada no quedara expuesta al sol
directo.

Para obtener los mejores resultados, ajuste la
aitura del corte de la segadora de modo que
_sta corte solamente el tercio superior de las
hojas de c_sped. En el caso de que el c_sped
haya crecido demasiado, puede set necesario
el eievar la altura del corte para reducir el
esfuerzo necesario para empujar la segadora y
para evitar sobrecargar el motor, dejando
montones de recortes de c_spedo Para un
acolchamiento muy pesado, reduzca el ancho
del corte pasando por encima del lugar
anterion'nente cortado y siegue lentamente.
° Ciertos tipos de c&sped y sus condiciones
pueden exigir que un eirea tenga que ser
acolchada por segunda vez para esconder
completamente los recortes. Cuando se haga
el segundo corte, siegue atravesado o en
forma perpendiculara la pasada del primer
corte_
o Cambie su patr6n de corte de semana a
semanao Siegue de norte a sur una semana y
luego cambie de este a oeste la prSxima
semanao Esto evitar_ que el c&sped se enrede
y cambie de direcci6no

del adaptador y que el chavetero del

alineando los dos (2) agujeros en la cuchilla
con INS salientes elevadas en el adaptadoro
° Asegurese de que el borde de salida de la
cuchilla (opuesto al borde afilado) est6
hacia arriba hacia el motor.
o Instale el pemo de la cuchilla con la
arandela de segufldad y la arandela
endurecida en el adaptador de la cuchilla y
el cigue_al.
° Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchilla y
la caja de la segadora y apriete el perno de
la cuchilla gir_ndolo en et sentido en que
giran las manillas del reloj.
• La torsi6n para apretar recomendada es de
35 - 40 pies ltbras.
Para obtener los mejores resultados, la
cuchilla de la segadora tienen que mantenerse
afilada. Cambie la cuchilla doblada o daSada.

Desconecte el alambre de la bujfa y pSnga!o
en donde no pueda entrar en contacto con

Haga descansar la segadora en su lado.,
Aseg_rese que el filtro de Mire y que e!
carburador queden mirando hacia arriba.
Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchilla y
la caja de la segadora para evitar que la
cuchilla gire cuando se le quite el pemo.
Proteja sus manos con guantes y/o
envuelva la cuchitla con una teta gruesao
Remueva el perno de la cuchilla gir_ndolo
en el sentido contrario en que giran INS
manitlas del reloj.
Remueva ta cuchilla y los art[culos de
ferreterfa adjuntadores (el pemo, la
arandela de seguridad y la arandela
endurecida).
IMPORTANTE: El perno de la cuchifla es
clase 8 tratado a calor.

PARA AFILAR LA CUCHILLA
AVlSO: No recomendamos et afilar la cuchilla pero si Io hace, aseg_Jrese de que quede
balanceada.
Se tiene que tener cuidado de mantenerla
balanceada. Una cuchilla que no est&
balanceada va a producir eventualmente daSo
en la segadora o en el motor°
, La cuchilla puede afilarse con una lima o en
una rueda rectificadora No trate de afilarla
mientras se encuentra en la segadorao
o Para revisar el balance de la cuchilla, clave
un clavo en una viga o en la pared Deje
alrededor de una pulgada de un clavo recto
expuesto Ponga el agujero central de la
cuchilla sobre la cabeza del clavo Si la
cuchilla est& balanceada debe permanecer
en la posiciSn horizontal. Si cualquiera de los
extremos de la cuchilla se mueve hacia
abajo, afile e! extremo pesado hasta que
6sta quede balanceada

Revise las ruedas de impulsi6n delanteras cada
vez antes de segar, para asegurarse de que se

Si tas ruedas no giran libremente quiere decir que
hay basura, recortes de c6sped, etc. en el _.rea de
las nJedas de impulsi6n y tienen que limpiarse para
liberarlaso
Es necesario iimpiar las ruedas de impulsi6n;
revise ambas ruedas delanteraso
o Remueva los tapacubos, las clavijas de
horquilla y las arandelas
° Remueva fas ruedas de los ajustadores de las
ruedas.
o Remueva la basura y los recortes de c_sped
de dentro de la cubierta contra el polvo, pifi6n y/
o de los dientes de los engranajes de ias ruedas
de impulsi6n
° Ponga las ruedas de vuelta en su lugaro
° Si despu6s de limpiar las nJedas de impulsi6n

de modo que no pueda entrar en contacto

° Incline la segadora y h&gela descansar en
su lado y drene el aceite en un envase

LIMPIE DEBAJO
DE LA CUBIERTA

° Afloje los torni!los de la cubierta.
° Empuje la cubierta hacia abajo y remuevala
de la bisagra,,
° Remueva el flltro de pape! afuera del cuerpo
del filtro de aire,
° Limpie la cublerta y el cuerpo del fittro de
aireo
• Instate un nuevo filtro de papel
° Renstale cubierta al conjunto dei fittro de
aire. Asegurese que el quicio est6 montado
adecuadaamente
° Empuje la cubierta hacia arriba y apriete los
tornillos de la cubierta. (No los priete
demaciado)
Limpie debajo de la cubierta de la impulsiSn
por 1o menos dos veces cada temporada.
Raspe debajo de la cubierta con un cuchillo
para masilla o con una herramienta parecida,
para remover toda acumulaci6n de c#sped o
basura en la parte inferior de la cubierta de Ia
impulsiSn.

PARA AJUSTAR EL MANGO
El mango puede ser montado a una posici6n
atta o baja. Los agujeros de montaje en el
mango inferior est_n fuera del centro para
levantar y bajar el mango.
° Remueva el mango superior y todas las
partes atadas al mango inferior,
. Remueva las clavijas de horquilla de ia
clavija de montaje del puntal del mango.
° Apreite el mango inferior hacia dentro para
removerio de las clavijas de montaje.
° Gire el mango inferior por encima para
ievantar o bajar el mango°
° Vuelva a montar las clavijas de horquilta por
encima de las clavijas de montajeo
° Vuelva a montar el mango superior y todas
las partes removidas del mango inferior.

DESVIADOR
TRASERO
Se proporciona un desviador trasero, adjunto
entre las nJedas traseras de su segadora, para
reducir a un mfnimo la posibilidad que objetos
sean lanzados hacia afuera de la parte trasera de
la segadora, en la posici6n en donde se encuentra
el operador. Si se dafa el desviador debe
cambiarseo

o Cuando el marco satga del otro lado de la
costura, inserta inmediatamente el extremo
del marco adentro de la bolsa como
mostrado en la intercalaci6n,
• Deslice la costura igual al rededor del
marco tubular, al mismo tiempo trabaje el
marco adentro del recogedor de c6sped.

VELOCIDAD DEL MOTOR

La velocidad del motor ha sido ajustada en la
f_brica. No trate de aumentar la velocidad del
motor pues se pueden producir tesiones
personales_ Si cree que el motor est&
funcionando demasiado r_pido o demasiado
lento, lleve su segadora a un centro/
departamento de servicio autorizado para
repararla o ajustarla.
CARBURADOR
Su carburador no es ajustable. Si su motor no
est,. funcionando en forma adecuada debido a
problemas que se sospecha vienen del
carburador, Ileve su segadora a un centro de
servicio autorizado para repararta y/o ajustarla.
IMPORTANTE: Nunca manipulee el regulador
del motor, el que ha sido ajustado en la fabrica
para la velocidad del motor adecuada° Puede
set peligroso hacer funcionar el motor a una
velocidad por sobre el ajuste de alta velocidad
de la fabrica, Si cree que la velocidad alta
regulada del motor necesita ajuste, pongase
en contacto con su centro/departmento de
servicio autorizado mas cercano, el que
cuenta con el equipo adecuado y la
experiencia para hacer los ajustes necesarios,

SISTEMA
IMPORTANTE: Es importante evitar que se
forrnen depositos de partes fundamentales del
sistema de comustible tales como el carburador, el
filtro del combutible, la manguera del combustible o
en el estanque durante el almacenmiento,. La
experiencea t&mbien endica que los combustibles
mezclados con alcohol (conocido come gasohol o
que tienen etanol o metanol) pueden atraer
humedad, Io que conduce a ta separatiSn y a la
formaciSn de _cidos durante almacemamiento,, la
gasolina &cideca puede naSar el sistema de
combustible de un motor durante el perido de
alcamenmientoo
° Drene e! estanque de combustible°
° Haga arrancar el motor y d_jelo funcionar basra
que las Ifneas del combustible y el carburador
est_n vacios.
° Nunca use los productos pard limpieza del
carburador o del motor en el estanque de
combustible pues se pueden producir daBos
permanentes.
• Use combustible nuevo la prSxima temporada.
AVISO: El estabilizador de combustible es una
altemativa aceptable para reducir a un minimo
la formaciSn de depSsitos de goma en el
combustible durante el peffodo de
almacenamiento. Agregue estabilizador a la
gasolina en el estanque de combustible o en el
envase para el almacenamientoo Siempre siga
la proporci6n de mezcla que se encuentra en
el envase det estabilizador, Haga funcionar el
motor por Io menos 10 minutos despu6s de
agregar el estabilizador, para permitir que este
Ilegue al carburador,, No drene la gasolina del
estanque de gasolina y el carburador si se
est& usando estabilizador de combustible.
° Cuando prepare sus mangos a partir de la
