you don't have to rely on a family member or carer to
help, you have the freedom of being able to visit friends
and family or even pop to the shops.
There are two types of mobility scooter available:

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to take out insurance?
We recommend that you insure your scooter against theft, accidental damage, public liability and
lost keys using special insurance cover which is available at additional cost – see opposite. You
are not legally obliged to insure your scooter.
What is the warranty period?
12 months.■
Do I need to take a driving test?
No, but we recommend that you make the most of the demonstration offered to you when you
collect your scooter from store, and drive with consideration to pedestrians. The RSA rules of the
road must be obeyed at all times.
How far will my scooter travel?
Range varies depending on which scooter you choose. See individual specifications for details.‡
What is the maximum user weight capacity?
Each scooter is different so check the individual scooter’s specification.
Can I charge a scooter battery via my car?
No. Do not attempt this, your car uses 12V whereas your scooter uses 24V.
Can I fit two car batteries to my scooter because they are cheaper?
No. Although they may look the same, a car battery and a scooter battery are designed and built
completely differently.
How much does it cost to charge a scooter up every night?
This depends on how much you pay per unit for your electricity. As a guide, your battery charger
uses approximately 1.2 units of electricity per day.
When should I charge a scooter up and for how long?
Charge your scooter every day whether you use it or not. It is quite safe to leave your batteries
constantly on charge for up to five days. Charge periods should last for at least 8-10 hours
for normal use and 10-15 hours for heavy use. Please refer to the owners manual for charging
information.
How do I maintain my scooter?
Scooters require very little maintenance:
1. Keep the battery charged, do not run flat
2. Keep the scooter clean
3. Store in a dry place away from rain, wind and cold areas
4. Check the tyre pressure weekly in accordance with the user manual***
5. Do not overload your scooter

Consider how the wheelchair will be used.
1. Push Wheelchairs
Always have smaller rear wheels (castors) and must
always be pushed by a friend, relative or carer.

. Self-propel Wheelchairs
Have large, usually 24", rear wheels with hand rails that enable the
user to propel the chair unassisted, thereby retaining their independence.
