Powe r Up To powe r up the page r, first fit the batte ry by rele asing the batte ry door lock, sliding ope ni ng the batte ry door and inse rti ng the batte ry, obse rving the corre ct pol arit y. T he page r will bee p to confi rm. N ote: pager is still switched Off and wi ll not yet re cei ve calls. Pre ss and hold the [RE AD ] ke y for at le ast 1 second. Page r will bee p and scree n will display t he Wel come message and time/ date. The page r is now powe red up and re ady t o re cei ve cal ls. 2. Selecting Menus Use t he [SE LE CT] ke y to cycle t hrough the four main me nus : (1) the greet ing me nu whi ch appe ars upon power up, t he t op li ne of whi ch shows t he programme d "We l come " me ss age, 2 whil st t he b ott om li ne shows t he current ti me and date; ( 2) & (3) the publi c me ss age me nu, list of publi c me ssages avai lable ( only if enabled by your Se rvice Provi de r); ( 4) t he utili ties me nu. 3. Reading P ri vate Messages Press the [RE AD] key while at greeting menu. The fi rst message is the most re ce nt mess age re cei ved. P re ss [RE AD ] agai n to re ad the whole message and ot he r e arlier messages. You may also use t he [LEFT ] and [RI GHT ] ke y to navi gate t hrough the mess age s. At the end of eve ry me ss age t he re ce ivi ng t ime and date are appe nded alongside t he call t one (“A”, “B”, “C”, or “D”) whose use is assigned by the paging servi ce provide r. To save me mory, message s with t he same conte nt but with di ffe rent call tone (i.e. “repe ated call”) will be 3 store d as one me ss age (i f set by Se rvice Provide r) with a dupl i cate t ag appe nded. 4. P rotecti ng or De leting Messages Pri vate me ssages can be deleted t o free up me mory space . I mport ant message s can be prote cted to avoi d accide nt al de leti on. U se t he [RE AD] / [LEFT ] / [RI GHT] key to locate t he message t o be prote cted /delete d and then press the [SE LECT ] key. Three opti ons are available : (1) to prote ct( ) the me ssage; (2) to delete ( )the message; (3) to delete all ( ) message s. Use the [LEFT ] / [RI GHT ] key to choose an option and the n the [RE AD ] ke y to confirm or the [SE LE CT] ke y to exi t wi thout choosing 4 any opti on. When the Delete All opti on is chosen, the use r wil l be prompte d t o reconfirm. Whe n a message is prote cte d, it will be pl aced at t he e nd of t he message que ue for e ase of se archi ng and i t may be unprote cte d ( ) by first locati ng the message and t he n pressi ng t he [SELE CT] and [RE AD] ke y. Whe n a message i s unprote cte d, it wi ll be pl aced ahe ad of any prote cted message s. 5. Display B ac klight function The page r provi de s a backli ght for re adi ng message s in low li ght. At any scre en whe n the page r is on, hol di ng the [SE LECT ] ke y for t wo seconds will turn the backli ght on. T he backli ght will remain on until no ke y is pre sse d for a whi le. The use r may turn off t he 5 backli ght expli citl y by hol di ng the [SE LECT ] ke y for anot her t wo se conds. Fl as h Alert fe at ure: if e nabled by t he Se rvi ce Provide r, the backli ght flashe s whe n an audible bee p alert is re ceived. N ote: it wil l not flash if a vibrate or M ute alert is received. Ne w and Un read Mes sages A message is re garded as unre ad i f t he user doe s not press any ke y during t he ale rt pe riod. An e nvel ope i con will be displ aye d on the first scree n wi th the numbe r of unre ad me ssages in brackets. The se quence number for unre ad messages will be marked i n reve rse vi deo mode. (D o not confuse wit h message content re cei ved wit h e rror whi ch is also marke d in reverse vi deo) . 6 Whe n a ne w mess age is re ceive d, it is displ aye d on the screen and the pager will give an ale rt t one (or vi brate, or Mute , depe ndent on se tti ng). The ale rt can be st oppe d by pre ss ing any ke y. I f it is not st oppe d, t he ale rt wi ll conti nue for the set pe riod ( as programme d by t he Se rvice Provider). N ote: when a ne w me ss age i s re ceive d and the me mory i s full , t he l ast unprote cte d message wi ll be e rase d to make room for the ne w one). 7. Powe r Manageme nt To save powe r, the LCD screen will bl ank aut omati call y if t he page r does not dete ct ke y acti vit ies afte r a short pe riod ( usuall y about 10 seconds, or as set by the Service Provider). In this powe r saving mode t he page r is sti ll able t o re ce ive me ss ages as normal. I f a ne w 7 message is re ceive d, t he s cree n will be turned on automati call y and the mess age will be displ aye d. The use r may also turn on the scree n expli cit l y by pressi ng any ke y. 8. Reading Pu blic Mes sages Note: this functi on is onl y avail able whe n acti vate d by the Servi ce Provi de r. Pre ss the [SELE CT ] ke y while at t he greeti ng menu to go to the publi c me ssage me nu and then use t he [LEFT ] / [RI GHT ] ke y to choose t he e xpe cte d ite m, t hen pre ss the [RE AD] ke y. Press [RE AD ] again to re ad the whole me ss age and othe r me ss ages bel ow. T he use r may also use t he [LEFT ] and [RI GHT ] ke y to navi gate through t he message s. At the e nd of e ve ry message t he re cei vi ng time and date are appende d. Publi c message s may not 8 be prote cted or dele ted. Note that t he paging servi ce provide r may or may not broadcast publi c me ssages and the number the y do is ent ire l y at t hei r di screti on. 9. M enu Function Settings 9.1 Adjusti ng the Re al- Ti me Cl ock Use the [SE LE CT] key to go to the utilit ies menu and the n choose t he clock opti on ( ) usi ng the [LEFT ]/[RI GHT ] and the n the [RE AD]ke y. T he use r may change the hour, minute , month, day and ye ar i n se que nce. Use the [RI GHT] ke y to i ncre ase t he fie lds and t he [LEFT ] ke y to de cre ase. Use the [RE AD ] ke y to save e ach se tti ng and t o se que nce through the various fiel ds. To e xi t wit hout s avi ng, pre ss [SE LECT ]. Note : for t he ti me, 12 or 24 Hr format i s pre set by the Servi ce Provi de r. 9 9.2 Choosi ng Audi o or Vi bration Ale rt Use the [SE LE CT] key to go t o the utilit ies menu and the n choose t he ale rt opt ion using [LEFT ] / [RI GHT] and t hen [RE AD ] to toggle bet wee n the audi o ( ) , vibrati on ( ), audio & vibrati on ( )or M ute ( ) mode. N ote: some Ale rt modes mi ght be fixe d or i nhibi ted by the Se rvi ce P rovide r. 9.3 Adjusti ng the LCD Contrast Use the [SE LE CT] key to go t o the utilit ies menu and t he n choose t he cont rast opti on ( )usi ng the [LEFT] / [RI GHT] and the n the [RE AD ] ke y. Adjust t o the de si red cont rast usi ng the [LEFT ] / [RI GHT ] ke y and complete by pre ssi ng [RE AD ]. 10 9.4 Auto Bac kl ight With t his functi on sele cted, when any ale rt is re cei ved (bee p, vibrate or mute) t he backli ght wi ll aut omati call y come on for the durati on of the ale rt (or until cance lle d by the user). Use the [SE LE CT] ke y to go t o the utilit ies menu and the n choose t he ( ) i con using the [LEFT ] / [RI GHT] and t hen the [RE AD ] key. This will toggle bet wee n ( off and ( ) aut o backli ght ) auto backli ght on. 9.5 Schedu le Ale rting This functi on all ows t he use r ( whe re permitted, or Se rvi ce Provi de r exclusi vel y) t o set a time period whe n t he page r wi ll re cei ve a 11 certain cate gory of calls ( as de fined by the Servi ce Provi der) . Outside of this set pe riod, call s of t his cate gory will be inhi bite d. Use the [SE LE CT] key to go t o the utilit ies menu and the n choose t he Schedule opti on ( ) usi ng the [LEFT ] / [RI GHT ] ke y and the n confirm by pre ssi ng t he [RE AD ] ke y. Use [SE LECT ] key to save & exit, [LE FT] / [RI GHT ] ke y to hi ghli ght or adjust, [RE AD ] ke y to confirm and move on. T he first column shows t he D ay of the wee k, t he next col umn toggle s bet wee n ( ) All D ay Enable, (X) All Day D isable, (-) Use r-define d pe riod. I f User Define d period ( -) i s chosen, the ne xt col umn displ aye d toggle s bet wee n ( -) D ay Shi ft, and (N) Ni ght Shift. I f D ay Shift is chosen, the Disable ti me shown is a ti me wit hin t he curre nt day. If Ni ght S hi ft is chose n, the 12 Disable ti me shown is a ti me on t he ne xt (following) day. The ne xt column shows t he Enable Time , t he final col umn shows the Disable Time . 9.6 Zoom Functi on Use the [SE LE CT] key to go to the utilit ies menu and the n use the [LEFT] / [RI GHT] ke ys to choose t he e nl arge fonts opti on ( ) the n confirm by pre ss ing the [RE AD ] ke y. The font s displ aye d on scree n wil l be e nl arge d. Re -sele ct the z oom i con and press [RE AD] t o reduce the font size . N ote: t his functi on may not be avail able if disable d by the Se rvi ce Provi de r. 9.7 Switching the Page r off Use the [SE LE CT] key to go to the utilit ies 13 menu and the n choose t he powe r-off opt ion (i f made avail able by the Se rvi ce Provi de r). ( ) usi ng the [LEFT ] / [RI GHT ] ke y and the n confirm by pre ssi ng t he [RE AD ] ke y. Unli ke t he powe r-savi ng mode, t he pager will not re cei ve any message whe n it i s switched off t his way. Press the [RE AD ] ke y for at le ast one se cond to t urn the page r on agai n. 10 a. C harging t he NiMH B attery WARNING! only f or use with a NiMH rechargeable battery. Do NO T try to charge al kaline b atteries! Whe n the low batte ry icon is shown, t he batte ry has almost run out of charge. Pl ug the page r into the charger (or U SB port on a PC) usi ng the Mi cro U SB cable provi ded, e nsuring 14 that a NiM H re charge able bat tery is fitted. Full charge wi ll t ake about 7 hours. 10 b. Repl acing an alkaline battery Change t he batte ry by swit ching off the page r, rele asing the batte ry door lock, sliding ope ni ng the batte ry door , re movi ng the ol d batte ry, re pl acing wi th the ne w one observi ng corre ct pol arit y, closing the battery door, and the n locking it. Any st ore d message s wi ll be ret aine d for seve ral mi nutes when t he battery is removed. IV.
