AP? What’s this? AP means ‘Agreement Party’ Although this information can be found in MWI this term is linked to General Agreements. Where should I find AP Information? AP information is available on the MWI detailed results page, in the Interested Party line as shown here below: How do I use AP information? This information is important if you deal in your daily operations with Agreements and sub-publishing information. Agreements Party (AP) information shows which creators, publishers and sub-publishers are connected through publishing agreements. For sub-publishers it also indicates the type of publishing agreement that exists with the original publisher (e.g. General Publishing Agreement). Let’s focus on two examples on Agreements Party to show the relevance of such information: The screenshot below shows the Original Publisher (E) ‘I CAN T BELIEVE IT S NOT MUSIC’ (with AP Sequence number ‘03’) has assigned its rights through a General Agreement to subpublisher (SE) ‘FIGS D MUSIC’ (with AP sequence GA03, meaning there is a General Agreement based on the catalogue of the ‘03’ Original Publisher). In this case the assignee (Figs D Music) acts as an assignor and assigns its rights through a General Agreement to sub-publisher ‘ANTHEM MUSIC AND MEDIA FUND LLC’ etc. The top-down list of all subpublishers with ‘GA03’ sequence number represents the full chain of the rights flow. © FT, the Digital Copyright Network – {Tips and Tricks # 3: Agreement Party (AP) Information} – Page 1/1 The following example shows a split copyright work: In the example below there are two chains of General Agreements: 1/ ‘BMG MUSIC PUBL LTD’ (with AP sequence number ‘05’) assigning rights through a General Agreement to sub-publisher ‘DISCOTON MUSIK EDITION GMBH’ (‘GA05’) 2/ ‘WARNER CHAPPELL MUSIC LTD’ (with AP sequence number ‘06’) assigning rights to sub-publisher ‘NEUE WELT MUSIKVERLAG GMBH CO KG’ (‘GA06’). Quick Tip Use AP information • When you're checking information on assignee/assignor in the agreements chain • When you are checking information on split copyright work Warning! AP information is not always available, as some nodes don’t provide Agreements Information. To date only GEMA, SABAM, SACEM and SOCAN nodes provide Agreements Information. For more information please consult the User Manual (available from the MWI, Help tab), § 2.1.5.2 © FT, the Digital Copyright Network – {Tips and Tricks # 3: Agreement Party (AP) Information} – Page 2/2
