46 19 1. Switch the device off by holding the - button down for at least 3 seconds and then releasing it. B) Temperature correction / calibration The temperature of a piece of wood to be measured determines its resistance. The device is calibrated for moisture measurement at 20°C. Moisture measurements of warmer wood yield higher values; with colder wood, they turn out lower. There is an indirect proportionality of the relationship of temperature to moisture content. A correction factor of 0.5 % per 5°C (arithmetically) must be observed in the process. Example: Read-off value: 10.5 % Moisture content at: 23 10°C = -2 15°C = -1 20°C = 0 25°C = +1 30°C = +2 10,5% + 1% 10,5% +0.5% 10,5% 10,5%-0,5% 10,5% -1% C) Automatic temperature factor correction 1. Drill a hole of Ø3 mm with the required depth in the piece of wood to be measured. 2. Use the separate temperature probe (TS) for measuring. Connect it to the measuring device via the “Temp” socket. 3. Switch the device on using the - button. 4. Select the calibration scale according to the kind of wood to be measured (see appendix I). Press the - button until the appropriate letter is shown in the display. 5. Insert the temperature probe into the hole. 6. Read off the moisture content in the display directly in %H20. D) Temperature measurement 1. Press the T button to switch over to temperature measurement. The indication “°C” appears in the display. 2. 40 8. Tips and notes • Measurements in cross-grained wood are only realistic if the wooden parts to be measured are freshly cut. For exact measurement of the moisture in the core of thick wooden parts, it is best if one takes a sample and measures in the middle of a cut surface. • Note that with measurements across annual rings the measurement value is an average value of the moisture of early wood and late wood. Moisture distribution in wooden zones of different thickness must be measured locally. Accordingly, they are only locally valid. • Before each start-up, carry out a calibration test in order to avoid faulty measurements. • The plug gauges are wear parts and can be replaced. • So that the plug gauges don’t break and so that the service life of the measuring device is not reduced. • Please be careful when you pull the plug gauges out of the wood. • In doing so, move the measuring device carefully in the direction of the grain and not across it. • Although the measuring device is very stable, you should never drive the electrodes into the wood with force. Preferably use the separate moisture probe (S) when measuring hard woods. 9. Cleaning and maintenance • Store the device and accessories after use in a secure and clean fashion in a suitable box. • Always turn the device off before cleaning. Wipe off the device only with a dry anti-static cloth. Do not use any abrasive cleaners or solvents. • The plug gauge tips can be worn down with normal use. They are wear parts replaceable on the device and moisture probe, but not on the temperature probe. 10. Exemple: Valeur relevée: teneur en humidité de 10,5% si: 38 Appendix I Calibration (according to wood species) Latin Abies alba. Abies grandis. Abies procera.
