Because of this, the casing will

Washing machines with three LED display panels

• The first LED indicates the spin speed for your selected

• The second LED provides two useful measurements. At
the start of your wash, a ‘Moisture %’ measurement is
displayed, indicating how damp the load will be on
completion of the cycle - useful for determining the
length of tumble drying time that will be required. At
the end of the cycle, a ‘Loading %’ measurement then
shows whether you have under-loaded the machine.
Experience tells us that most people do not make full
use of their machine’s capacity, so this will help you
‘get a feel’ for the amount of laundry you can load.

EU energy labelling
AEG’s foam suppression
system helps to minimise the
volume of water required for
rinsing.
Our special ECO-lock valve
ensures that no undissolved
washing powder is trapped in
the drainage system of the
washing machine, thus
ensuring no wastage. This
feature also reduces pollution
by ensuring that undissolved
detergent does not find its way
into the natural environment.
Top models feature
Advanced Rinse Technology
which wets laundry as quickly
as possible in order to prevent
the unsightly ‘pilling’ which
can occur when friction builds
up between dry items. This is
achieved by spraying the
clothes with jets of water.
The Update Facility on top
models means that the Fuzzy
Logic microprocessors can be
updated to keep up with
changes in washing
technology. For example,
tomorrow’s fabrics and
detergents may have different
requirements in terms of water
quantity, wash temperature or
cycle time. If this happens,
your washing machine can be
reprogrammed by an AEG
service engineer.

Firstly, the display screen
provides a useful countdown
time facility which shows
exactly how long your wash
will take to complete.
Secondly, it enables you to set
a delayed start time for your
wash, which can be anything
up to 19 hours - ideal if you
want to take advantage of offpeak electricity rates, or do the
laundry while you are out.
The LED screen also assists with
diagnostic fault-finding.
Should any problem occur with
your machine, a fault code will
be displayed. If the fault is not
one which you can rectify
yourself, the code can be phoned
through to AEG’s service
reception, enabling a forewarned
service engineer to fix it without
delay.
The LAVAMAT 88840 has three
LED display panels providing a
wealth of useful information,
described fully on page 6.
Over the years, the
consumption figures for our
laundry appliances have fallen
dramatically, with today’s
models using on average 72%
less water and electricity than
those we manufactured in
1978. This is due to the use of
advanced microprocessor
technology which optimises
wash performance at every
stage whilst keeping
consumption to an absolute
minimum. In fact, our current
top of the range LAVAMAT
88840 machine uses just 39
litres of water and 0.89 kWh of
electricity to wash a 5 kg
cotton load.
The outstanding performance
of LAVAMAT machines is
evident from the ratings they
have achieved under the EU’s
Energy Efficiency labelling
scheme. This scheme offers
consumers a standardised
method of assessing a
machine’s efficiency, washing
and spin drying performance
(‘A’ - most efficient, ‘G’ - least
efficient). All our washing
machines achieve an ‘A’ rating
for both energy efficiency and
wash performance, while the
LAVAMAT 88840’s triple ‘AAA’
rating reflects its spin drying

An AEG LAVATHERM tumble
dryer is the perfect
complement to your LAVAMAT
washing machine, with the
same easy-to-read control
panel and ‘one button/one
function’ operation.
Electronic sensors continually
monitor the dampness of your
laundry, shutting off the hot air
heater as soon as the required
level of dryness has been
reached. As well as ensuring
perfect drying results, this also
prevents over-drying and
excessive energy consumption.
A separate manual timer is
also provided.
Setting the right drying
programme is easy: simply
select the fabric type and how
dry you want the laundry. The
machine will continue running
until the chosen level of
dryness is reached. A delay
timer function allows you to
set a start time in advance.
What type of tumble dryer
should I choose?
This depends on the method by which you want to disperse
the moisture from your laundry. In vented models, hot air is
used to absorb moisture which is discharged through a
venting hose to the outside air. Condenser dryers require no
venting, as moisture is collected in a spill-free container (or
pumped out using optional drainage coupling) - this type
of dryer can simply be plugged in to the nearest power
socket offering greater flexibility for installation.
Optional stacking kits are available enabling a tumble
dryer to be stacked above your washing machine in order to
save space.

Each model has capacity for up
to 5 kg of laundry in its
generously proportioned
drum, which has a large 36 cm
door opening to make loading
and unloading easy.
In condenser models,
moisture is collected in a large
3.8 litre water container which
is self-sealed for spill-free
emptying. Alternatively water
can be pumped into an
adjacent drain or sink using the
optional drainage coupling. In
vented tumble dryers, it is
discharged through a pipe to
the outside air.
All models utilise a reverse
tumble action to reduce
creasing by loosening the
clothes as they dry.
If the washing is not
immediately removed at the
end of the drying cycle, the
machine will enter a 30 minute
cooling phase in which clothes
are periodically lifted and
moved to keep them fluffy and
virtually crease-free.
There is an easy-clean fluff
filter which is accessible from
the front of the machine. For
safety reasons, the machine will
not operate unless this is in
place.
For maximum flexibility, doors
can be hinged on the left or
right, and top models have a
child safety door release
mechanism.
