If you sell your washing machine or give it away, make sure that it is accompanied by its user’s manual. The new user can then be informed of how the washing machine operates and read relevant warnings. These warnings have been written for your safety and for the safety of others. Please read these comments carefully before installing and using your washing machine. Thank you for your attention. Usage • When you receive your washing machine, unpack it or have it unpacked immediately. Check its general appearance. Make any reserves in writing on the delivery form and keep a copy. • Your washing machine was designed for use by adults. Make sure that children do not touch it or use it as a toy. • Do not modify or attempt to modify the characteristics of this washing machine. This could be dangerous for you. • Your washing machine is intended for normal domestic use. Do not use it for commercial or industrial purposes of for any purpose other than that for which it was designed : to wash, to rince and to spin. • Unplug the power suplly plug and close the water supply tap every time after using your washing machine. • Only wash articles that can resist machine washing. Refer to the instructions on the label for each article. • Do not wash underwear with bones, or any material without hems, or torn materials in your washing machine. 4 User information • Remember to remove all coins, safety pins, boraches, screws, etc., before each wash. They can cause serious damage if they are left in your washing. • Do not put articles in your washing machine if you have used a solvent, alcohol, trichloroethylene, etc., to remove stains from them. If you must use these stain removers, wait until the product has evaporated before putting the articles in the drum. • Collect all small articles such as socks, belts, etc., in a small cloth bag or pillow case. • Use the quantity of detergent indicated in the «proportioning of detergents» section. • Always unplug the washing machine before cleaning it and doing any maintenance. Precautions against frost If your washing machine is exposed to temperatures below 0°C, take the following precautions : • Close the tap and disconnect the water supply pipe. • Put the end of this pipe and the drain pipe into a bowl on the floor. • Select the «Drain» programme and make sure it works until it is complete. • Switch the washing machine off by putting the program selector to the «Off»* position or pressing on the «On/Off»* key. • Unplug the washing machine. • Screw in the water inlet pipe and install the drain pipe. *depending on model 5 User information Water that remained in the pipes will then be evacuated, thus preventing the formation of frost or ice that can damage your washing machine. The next time you want to use your washing machine, make sure that it is installed in a room in which the temperature is above 0°C. Scrapping All materials marked with the symbol can be recycled. Put them in a waste tip (ask for information from your municipal offices) so that they can be recovered and recycled. When you take your washing machine to the tip, make sure that everything that could be dangerous is out of service ; cut the power supply cable flush with the surface of your washing machine. Protection of the environment We recommend that the following instructions should be followed to achieve savings in water and energy and therefore to contribute to protection of the environment: • If possible, use the washing machine at full capacity rather than with partial loads (however, do not overload the drum). • Only use the Prewash or Soak function for very dirty washing. • Use a detergent dose adapted to the water hardness (see «proportioning of detergents» section) and to the amount of washing and how dirty it is. 6 User information Washing machine description 1 2 1 - Control panel 2 - Lid opening handle 3 - Filter door 4 - Leveling screws 5 - Lever for moving the washing machine 3 5 4 The detergents dispenser Symbols 1 2 4 3 1 - prewash 2 - wash 3 - softener (do not exceed the MAX mark) 4 - softener overflow (if overfilled). 7 User information Control panel Spin pushbutton/ RINSE HOLD Additional programme pushbuttons Programmes procedure Delayed Start pushbutton Programme selector Door control lamp Start/Pause pushbutton Overflow control lamp Programme selector It is used to select the most suitable programme to the type and soiling of your laundry. It can be turned to the right or to the left. OFF (UIT/ARRET) This position of the programme selector switchs off the appliance. Moreover, thanks to this option, you can cancel a programme which has already been selected. Another programme can then be selected. 40 - 60 MIX Programme for Cotton and Coloureds. These different nature of laundry can be washed together with temperatures from 40°C to 60°C with this 40-60 MIX programme. The drum capacity is better used and so, you can save energy. Thanks to a longer washing time, the washing result is identical to the one of a normal washing programme at 60°C. This function is not compatible with SHORT* and SAVE TIME* pushbuttons. 8 User information WHITE / COLOUREDS (WITTE/BONTE WAS / BLANC/COULEURS) Main wash for coloured or white laundry from 30°C to 95°C. SYNTHETICS (KREUKHERSTELLEND / SYNTHETIQUES) Main wash for lightly soiled fabrics from 30°C to 60°C. EASY IRONING position (STRIJKVRIJ / SANS REPASSAGE) Wash at 40°C for mixed clothes. Thanks to this programme, clothes require only light ironing or even no ironing at all. DELICATES (FIJNE WAS / LINGE DELICAT) Main wash for delicates fabrics at 30°C or 40°C. WOOL (WOL / LAINE) / SILK (SIJDE / SOIE) / Main wash (cold to 30°C) for machine washable woollen garments and also for all other garments carrying the «hand washable» symbol. RINSES (FIJNSPOELEN / RINCAGE DELICAT) Separate rinse which can, for instance, be used to rinse and spin handwash garments. The appliance performs 3 rinses cycles and a short spin. DRAIN (POMPEN / VIDANGE) Separate drain of the water after a rinse hold (without spinning). The effect of the rinse hold function is that the washing is left to soak in the last rinse water, without spinning. SPINNING (CENTRIFUGEREN / ESSORAGE) Drain of the water after a rinse hold and spin or separate spin for handwashed cotton garments. ECO By washing normally soiled white clothes at around 60°C, this programme saves water and energy. Futhermore, it increases the wash duration and it can not be combined with the TIME (TIJD/ TEMPS) pushbutton. *depending on model 9 User information Additional programme pushbuttons Additional programme pushbuttons enable to adapt the washing programme to the laundry soil level. It is not necessary to use these options so as to wash normally soiled garments. The use of the different options depends on the chosen programme. When these buttons are pressed, the corresponding lights illuminate. When pressed again, the corresponding lights extinguish. When an additional function is not compatible with the selected programme, the corresponding light will flash for a few seconds and the «Err» message will appear in the display window. PREWASH (VOORWAS / PRELAVAGE) Prewash at 30°C before the main wash which starts automatically. The prewash ends by a short spin as far as the white/coloureds, synthetics programmes are concerned and by a drain of the water for the delicate garments. It is not possible to select the prewash option with the wool and handwash programmes and also with the SOAKING* and STAIN* pushbuttons. This option is recommended for very soiled clothes. STAIN (VLEKKEN / TACHES) This option reinforces the washing action. You can add stain removal salts into the prewash compartment in your washing machine. This option in not available with the wool and handwash programmes and with PREWASH* and SOAKING* pushbuttons. SENSITIVE (BEHOEDZAAM / SENSIBLE) Enhanced rinse action through an additional rinse cycle together with decreased drum movement (improved fabric care). This is ideal when frequent washes are necessary, for example, in cases of highly sensitive skin. *depending on model 10 User information RINSE PLUS (SPOELEN + / RINCAGE +) This option adds two rinses on Cotton, Synthetics and Delicates programs. It is advised for allergic people to detergent products and in areas with fresh water. TIME (TIJD / TEMPS) Shortened wash programme for lightly soiled washing. This function can not be used on the wool and handwash programmes and also with STAIN* pushbutton. DELAY START (STARTTIJDKEUZE / DEPART DIFFERE) This pushbutton is used to delay the start of a programme in order to take advantage of attractive night rates (for instance). Using the delayed start : • Select the programme and the options • Select the required time (30, 60, 90 minutes until 23 hours) for the delayed start by pressing the DELAY START puhbutton • Press the START/PAUSE pushbutton. The programme starts when the time has elapsed. Modifying the delayed start : • Press the START/PAUSE pushbutton • Press the DELAY START pushbutton with your new choice ; if you want to cancel a delay start, move the programme selector to the OFF position. • Press the START/PAUSE pushbutton again so as to activate the new delayed start selection or to start the programme (if the delayed start has been cancelled). Be careful : if you use liquid detergent for a washing cycle with a delayed start, use a ball to put directly in the drum and choose a programme without prewash. If you want to realize a prewash with a delay start in the same time, please use powder detergent. ACOUSTIC SIGNAL An acoustic signal sounds when a washing programme or options are selected. The end of the programme is announced by several acoustic 11 User information bips. If you want to take away these alarms, because they disturb you, please proceed as follow : a) Choose a washing programme, b) Press simultaneously on the pushbuttons «DELAY START» and «START/PAUSE», c) The acoustic signal is removed. By pressing these two pushbuttons again, the acoustic signal is reactivated. Spinning speed pushbutton / RINSE HOLD The maximum spin speed is defined as a function of the type of washing and depending on the selected program. However, you can reduce the speed or choose the rinse hold*, drain*, or spinning suppression* positions. START/PAUSE (START/PAUZE / DEPART/PAUSE) pushbutton Start: After having selected the wash programme, press this button to start the appliance ; the corresponding light remains illuminated. If you have selected a delay start, the timer starts. Pause: The programme in progress is interrupted when this button is pressed. It continues when this button is pressed again. During the pause, the light of the START/PAUSE button flashes. Programme progress display When you select a programme, the leds corresponding to the different steps during the programme light on. When the programme starts, only the concerned led of the programme cycle stays lighted on. END (EINDE / FIN) Indicate the end of the washing cycle. The laundry can be removed from the appliance. 12 User information LID / DOOR (DEKSEL / COUVERCLE) When the appliance is switched on, the led DEKSEL/COUVERCLE indicates whether the lid can be opened. 0.1. Opening and closing the lid If you want to open the lid when the appliance is switched on, you must set up the appliance in pause position by pressing the START/PAUSE pushbutton. When the appliance is switched on, the led DOOR indicates whether the lid can be opened : DOOR light Can the lid be opened ? is off No lighted in green Yes If : - the START/PAUSE pushbutton flashes in red, - and then the error code E40 appears in the display window, - and the END light flashes 4 times and an acoustic signal is emitted 4 times, it means there was an attempt to start a wash programme without closing the lid properly. If this happens, push the lid firmly and start the wash programme again. 13 User information Consumptions and programme durations Timer / Temperature Washing quantity in kg Water consumpt ion in liters Energy consumpt ion in kWh Duration in minutes COTON/LINEN 95 5,0 59 2,00 140-155 ENERGY SAVING ECO* 5,0 42 0,85 140-155 SYNTHETICS 60 2,5 52 1,10 85-100 DELICATES 30 2,5 53 0,35 55-70 WOOL / SILK 30 1,0 50 0,30 45-60 *Programme setting for testing in accordance with standard EN 60456. Values given in the above table are provided as a guide and may vary depending on the water supply temperature and pressure, and your electricity power supply mains voltage. 14 User information Washing guide Sorting and preparing your washing • Sort the washing by type and care symbol (see chapter 5.4: International symbols for care of textiles): normal wash for strong washing that can resist energetic wash and spin; delicate wash for delicate washing that should be treated more carefully. For mixed loads composed of articles of different types of fibers, choose a program and temperature suitable for the most fragile fiber. • Wash white washing and color washing separately. Otherwise, the white washing may be colored or look gray. • New clothes very often have too much color. Preferably wash new clothes separately for the first time. Respect "wash separately" and "wash several times separately" care instructions. • Empty pockets and spread out the washing. • Take off all loose buttons, pins and hooks and eyes. Close zip fasteners, tie knots in laces and straps. • Turn clothes made of several layers of textiles (sleeping bags, anoraks, etc.), colored hosiery and wool and textiles with add-on decorations, inside out. • Wash small delicate items (socks, tights, bras, etc) in a washing net. • Treat curtains with special care. Remove curtain hooks and put net curtains in a net bag or a sachet. Washing load depending on the nature of the material The quantity of washing that you put in your drum must not exceed the maximum capacity of your washing machine. This capacity may vary depending on the nature of your textiles. Reduce the quantity of washing if it is very dirty or if you have terry cloth type materials. Not all textiles have the same volume and the same water retention capacity. This is why in general the drum should be filled: • completely, but without excessive pressure for cotton and linen, and for mixed washe, • half full for treated cottons and synthetic fibers, 15 User information • about one third full for very delicate articles such as net curtains and wool. For a mixed wash, fill the drum as required for the most delicate material. Detergents and additives Only use detergents and additives suitable for use in a washing machine. Read the manufacturer's instructions and respect sections about detergents dispenser and detergents. Powder detergents can be used without restriction; liquid detergents should be poured either in the proportioning bowl directly in the drum, or in the wash compartment provided that the washing machine is started immediately; detergents in tablets or doses must be put into the wash compartment of the detergents dispenser in your washing machine. The quantity of detergent to be used depends on the amount of washing to be washed, the hardness of the water and how dirty the washing is. If the water is soft, you can reduce the doses slightly. Increase the doses slightly if the water is hard (it is recommended to use a water softener) or if the washing is very dirty or stained. You can ask the water distribution company in your region or any other competent authority to find out the degree of hardness of your water. 16 User information International symbols 17 User information How to do a wash ? Before the first wash in your washing machine, we recommend that you should do a preliminary wash at 90°C with detergent but without any washing to clean the tub. Loading the washing • Lift the machine cover. • Open the drum by pressing on the locking button A; the two flaps automatically separate. • Insert the washing, close the drum and the cover of your washing machine. Warning : before you close the cover of your washing machine, make sure that the drum door is properly closed: •the two flaps latched together, •the locking button A extended. A Proportioning of detergents Your washing machine has been produced in order to reduce water and detergents consumptions, so you can reduce the doses recommended by detergent manufacturers. Pour the powder detergent dose into the wash compartment and into the prewash compartment if you chose the «prewash» option. Pour in the softener into the compartment. If you are using a different type of detergent, refer to the «detergents and additives» section in the washing guide. Selecting the desired washing programme Select the desired wash programme and temperature with the programme selector (for the appropriate programme, temperature and possible programme options suitable for any type of washing, see "Programme tables"). The control lamps corresponding to the programme light on. 18 User information The OFF position of the programme selector switchs off the appliance (it is switched on for all other positions). This function enables also to cancel a programme and to restart the washing machine in case of error. If the programme selector is turned when the appliance is performing wash cycle, the programme will be carried out and will ignore the new position of the selector. In order to solve this problem, re-position the programme selector on its original position. Selecting the spinning speed When selecting the programme or in Pause mode, the light corresponding to the maximum spinning speed illuminates. You can adjust the spinning speed which corresponds to the type of laundry and the degree of dampness required at the end of the wash depending on your drying possibilities. You can also choose the RINSE HOLD option. If you do not modify the spinning speed, the final spinning is automatically adapted to the chosen programme. The middle spinning speed depends on the chosen programme and can not be modified. Selecting the pushbuttons Selecting if necessary one or several additionnal programme pushbuttons • to change the selection, press an another pushbutton. • to cancel a wrong selection, press again the same pushbutton. Selecting a delay start Select the number of hours after which you want the program to begin by pressing on the pushbutton several times. Starting the programme After you chose the washing program, press the "start/pause" pushbutton to start the cycle ; the corresponding light comes on con19 User information tinuously. It is normal that the program selector does not turn during the cycle. The current program light is on. If you selected a delayed start, the countdown will begin. The "Remaining time" display window displays either the program duration or the displayed start time. End of programme The appliance is equipped with a security which prevents the opening of the lid during the cycle. The washing machine stops automatically. "0" flashes in the display window. You will hear a double "click" in the locking device. When the DOOR light illumintates, you can open the lid. The programmes end : • by a spinning (for all washing programmes) if you have not selected the option RINSE HOLD • by a rinse hold (for all washing programmes) if you have selected the option RINSE HOLD. You can then end these programmes by a spinning or by a draining by setting the programme selector on the chosen programme by the OFF position, then pushing the START/ PAUSE pushbutton. At the end of the cycle, place the programme selector on the OFF position in order to switch off the appliance. Remove the laundry. Unplug the appliance and switch off the water inlet tap. Check that the drum is empty : any garments left in the appliance may be damaged during the next wash (shrinkage) or their colour may run onto other garments. Note : leave the lid opened in order to air the washing machine. 20 User information Programmes tables Washing This table does not include all possibilities, simply the best and most usual adjustments in practice. Descaling the washing machine Normally there is no need to descale the washing machine if the detergent was correctly proportioned. If descaling is necessary, use a special non-corrosive product specially designed for washing machines that you can find in the shops. Respect the proportion and frequency of descaling shown on your packaging. The surface Clean the surface of your washing machine using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Never use alcohol, solvents or similar products. The detergents dispenser From time to time, you must clean the detergents dispenser in order to eliminate the possible wastes of the detergents and then to avoid an operating problem. The detergent dispenser is very easy to remove for a light cleaning. Disassembly: Press the clips on each side of the detergents dispenser and pull it upwards. 23 User information You can thus clean it using running water and a brush or a twisted cloth. Check that the siphons at the back of the detergents dispenser are not blocked. Reassembly : Put the detergents dispenser in the notches until they lock. The drain filter Clean the filter at the bottom of the washing machine regularly. The "filter"* light comes on if the filter is blocked. In this case clean it immediately. If you wash washing that is very fluffy, clean it after each wash. Open the door, with a screwdriver for example: *depending on model 24 User information Drain residual water: Put a receptacle under the drain. Turn the cap in the anti-clockwise direction until it is vertical to release residual water. Remove the filter: Unscrew the cap all the way and take it off. Clean it tho-roughly with running water. Put the assembly back and screw it in the clockwise direction. After cleaning the filter, you are required to closed the door. In fact, for reasons of safety, the door must be closed when the appliance is working. 25 User information Operating problems Many checks have been carried out during the manufacture of your washing machine.
