Thank you for purchasing the Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista CD player.
The Nu-Vista CD player uses our tried and tested ultra-low distortion upsampling Digital to Analogue Converter
circuitry, which has impressively flat response and virtually immeasurable noise and distortion.
To further enhance functionality, the DAC can be used with the inbuilt CD player, or with external digital sources
such as TV sound, set-top boxes and similar.
The Nu-Vista CD features a valve* buffer output circuit, similar to that used in our original Nu-Vista products. It
has since been refined, to fulfil our latest practices and expectations. This completes the CD player giving a
perfect sound from a great looking full size unit.
The Nu-Vista CD will aesthetically match with present and future Nu-Vista series products. Such a combination
will yield one of the best high-fidelity systems available at any price.
Used properly and carefully, it should give many years of outstanding musical reproduction.
Dust regularly with a soft duster or soft brush, but be careful when using cleaning or polishing agents - they may
harm the surface finish.
If there are any questions about the audio system, please consult the dealer, who is there to help and advise.
* UK English “valve” mentioned hereafter, refers to the ‘electron valve’ kind, also known as electron “tube” in
other parts of the world.

GENERAL ADVICE
Installation, Precautions & User Information
This new Nu-Vista CD is designed and built to provide trouble-free performance, but as with all electronic devices
it is necessary to observe a few precautions:
•
Heed all warnings shown on the back of the product.
•
Only connect the Nu-Vista CD to a mains outlet having the same voltage as marked at the back of the unit.
•
Always ensure that when disconnecting and reconnecting your audio equipment the mains supply is switched
off.
•
Position the mains lead and signal interconnects where they are not likely to be walked on or trapped by items
placed on them.
•
Do not use near water, or place water-filled containers on the Nu-Vista CD, for example, a flower vase or
potted plants. If water does spill inside, immediately pull out the mains plug from the wall socket and
inform your dealer, who should then check the unit before further use. Entry of liquid into the Nu-Vista
CD is dangerous, and may cause electric shock or fire hazard.
•
Do not place the unit near direct heat sources such as radiators, direct sunlight or other equipment.
•
Do not remove any covers or try to gain access to the inside. There are no internal adjustments or fuses you
can replace yourself. Refer all service work to an authorised Musical Fidelity agent.
* Note: Unauthorised opening of the equipment will invalidate any warranty claim.
•
Dust regularly with a soft cloth or soft brush but be careful when using cleaning or polishing agents - they may
harm the surface finish.
The electronics in modern hi-fi equipment are complex and may, therefore, be adversely affected or damaged by
lightning. For protection of the audio system during electrical storms, remove the mains plugs.
If after-sales service is required, to help the dealer identify the Nu-Vista CD please quote the serial number located
on the rear panel of the unit.

INSTALLATION
Introduction
Congratulations on the purchase of the new Nu-Vista CD player. Great attention has been paid to internal layout,
isolating each circuit section to prevent possible interaction. The unit features a finely tuned and tweaked NuVista valve buffer, for smooth sound coupled with low noise and virtually no distortion.
This unit will give top quality performance when used as:
-
A top quality CD player delivering the best performance possible from CD
-
A top quality DAC (digital to analogue converter) for other sources with digital outputs such as DAB radio,
Media player, TV, etc. delivering the best audio performance using these sources
The resultant performance achieved by this unit is among the best in the world. It has excellent signal to noise
ratio, low distortion, wide bandwidth and dynamic range, with extraordinary resolution and fine detail.
Cleaning
Before cleaning the unit, switch off power at the mains switch and remove the mains plug from the wall socket.
Clean the cabinet and remote control unit using a moist cloth. Using solvents, white spirit or thinners is not advised,
as they could damage the surface finish.
Installation
Position the Nu-Vista CD on a stable, horizontal surface where there is no risk of it being knocked, or subjected
to vibration such as from loudspeakers.
Important note:
During normal operation, the unit dissipates an appreciable quantity of power at all times, and it is
important that it is well ventilated. The top and bottom are perforated to allow the smooth flow of
heat through the unit. However, the unit must not be enclosed in a cabinet or placed where the
ventilation holes are impeded as this could result in excessive heat build-up.
The Nu-Vista CD must be protected from humidity – if the unit is moved from a cold place to a warm
room, leave the unit for an hour or so to allow sufficient time for the moisture to evaporate.
Power Connections
The Nu-Vista CD is supplied with a standard IEC mains cable which plugs into the IEC socket at the back of the
unit (see page 8). When plugged in and mains supply is present the orange STBY LED will light.
Audio Connections
XLR audio outputs: Use good quality XLR balanced audio cables (fully connected signals and ground), for
optimum signal transfer. This gives the best performance from the CD player when used in conjunction with an
amplifier with fully balanced input such as the Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista 800 Integrated.
RCA Nu-Vista buffer outputs: Use good quality RCA phono audio cables (fully connected signal and ground),
for optimum signal transfer.
Digital Connections
RCA S/PDIF inputs: Connect RCA digital sources to RCA digital inputs. Use good quality fully connected (signal
and ground) coaxial digital cables for optimum RCA digital signal transfer.
Optical S/PDIF inputs: Connect optical digital source to optical input. Use good quality “Toslink” cables, for
optimum signal transfer.
RCA S/PDIF output: Connect RCA digital receiver to RCA digital outputs. Use good quality fully connected (signal
and ground) coaxial digital cables for optimum RCA digital signal transfer.
Optical S/PDIF output: Connect optical digital receiver to optical output. Use good quality optical cables, for
optimum signal transfer.

OPERATION
Starting
Once all connections are made, switch on the unit, using the POWER button on the front of the unit. The display
will light up and base LEDs (under front panel) and valve LEDs will show RED. This means the outputs are muted,
and will remain in this state for about 12 seconds, so no sound will be heard from the unit. Once the delay is up,
the base LEDs go green, indicating unit is ready for use, and any source material selected and playing will be
heard through the speakers.
For the first 15 mins or so, the Nu-Vista valves are still warming up, and the valve illumination will be yellow in
colour. After approx. 20 mins the valves will have reached full thermal equilibrium and are at their optimal
performance, which is indicated by the illumination turning green.

DIGITAL INPUTS
Use as DAC
To take advantage of our high quality digital to analogue conversion techniques, this unit has been designed to
enhance listening experience from other S/PDIF digital audio sources such as TV or TV receiver boxes, digital
tuners, media servers, or any other device with S/PDIF digital audio output.
Separately selectable inputs are available which allow up to two coaxial and two optical digital sources to be used.
Simply connect desired digital equipment to the inputs on this unit, using suitable cable.
Any input can be used for most devices, however bearing in mind the limits of the optical receivers it may be
suggested that the OPTICAL inputs are used for lower bitrates such as tuner or TV stereo audio and the COAX
inputs are reserved for higher bitrate units greater than 96 kHz, if used.
COAXIAL 1 input
To use the COAXIAL input 1, press the COAXIAL 1 button on the front panel. Alternatively, use the COAXIAL 1
button on the remote control. The display will flash “no lock” in absence of digital input signal. If a signal is present,
the display will show a steady “locked” message.

To use the OPTICAL input 2, press the OPTICAL 2 button on the front panel. Alternatively, use the OPTICAL 2
button on the remote control. The display will flash “no lock” in absence of digital input signal. If a signal is present,
the display will show a steady “locked” message.
Stop
11 42:03
Optical 2 Locked
Pressing the corresponding button on the remote handset has the same effect (see page 9).
Notes:
Pressing play while on any digital input will automatically switch back to internal CD player. Eject can be
operated without switching back to CD.
Lock indication:
Some devices may halt/disable their digital output signal when nothing is playing. This may result in NO
LOCK being displayed even with proper connection present. This is a quite normal response. Playing
something on the source device should bring up the “Locked” indicator and playback should resume
normally. This behaviour is dependent on implementation of external devices and therefore beyond our
control.
Multichannel:
TVs, DVD/Blu-ray players and related set top boxes sometimes output digital multichannel audio
information. Such information is not recognised by this unit. To ensure correct operation of this unit,
check that the digital outputs on such equipment is set to give ‘PCM 44.1 kHz 16 bit stereo’ or similar.
Consult equipment manufacturer’s instructions/support for further information on how to do this. PCM is
the standard, which the unit supports. Other sample rate stereo PCM equipment is supported too, with
88.2, 96, 176.4 and 192 kHz sample rates on its COAX and up to 96 kHz on its optical inputs, all inputs up
to and including 24 bits.
