UK portable power manufacturer Powertraveller Ltd of Alton,
Hampshire, will be launching the powermonkey-eXtreme
portable charger for 5V devices at the ISPO Show in Munich,
6 – 9 February 2011.
The powermonkey-eXtreme is the big brother to the very successful
and highly regarded powermonkey-eXplorer, a charger that has quickly
become the flagship product of the Powertraveller range.
The powermonkey-eXtreme houses a massive 9000mAh capacity
Lithium Polymer battery and offers users real power in a compact,
durable shell. The unit is capable of recharging most 5V devices,
including an iPhone up to 6 times, a Garmin Edge 800 up to 6 times
and standard mobiles up to 12 times.

The powermonkey-eXtreme has two output channels; one channel
outputs 700mAh max (standard USB) whilst the DC port outputs
2.1Amps max to support the Apple iPad and other tablet computers.
IP67 rated – meaning it is waterproof for 30 minutes up to 1 metre
– and shock resistant, the powermonkey-eXtreme is perfect for the
outdoor, marine and adventure enthusiast, as well as military and aid
agencies. Featuring an LCD screen, which displays battery capacity
level and working status (on/off), its unique one touch friction swipe
on/off control is designed so the unit can only be turned on once
connected to a device, and cannot be accidentally switched on when
not in use. When the 5V device or tablet computer is fully charged, the
auto shut-off function means the powermonkey-eXtreme will turn itself
off after 2 minutes, so the user does not have to monitor the charge
state of the device being charged – thus saving power.

The powermonkey-eXtreme can be recharged in three ways: via the
universal mains charger, via the solar panel or via USB.
The rugged, clam-shell design solar panel offers 3 watt max output,
allowing full recharge of the powermonkey-eXtreme within 15 hours in
optimum light conditions. The powermonkey-eXtreme also has a solar
energy detection feature that activates the incorporated
state-of-the-art MPPT (maximum power point tracker) technology,
allowing the solar panel to charge the powermonkey unit more
efficiently in low-light conditions. Users can also simultaneously use the
solar panel to charge the powermonkey-eXtreme whilst it is charging
their device. The solar panel can be attached to tents or rucksacks
via the included Velcro strap, so it is perfect for hiking and is
designed to take the knocks and spills of both the power-hungry
adventurer and the busy traveller.
The powermonkey-eXtreme unit measures 145 x 59.5 x 28mm, whilst
the solar panel measures 171 x 96 x 18mm when folded. The unit
has very low static wastage (meaning you can leave it for up to 1 year
and it will still hold 75% of its charge), and includes a whole host of
safety features to give you total peace of mind. Available in four striking
colours: Electric Blue, Graphite Grey, Safety Yellow and Vibrant Red.

The solarmonkey adventurer is the first
Powertraveller solar charger to feature an internal
battery which, in optimum light conditions, can
be charged by the solar panels in just 8 to 12
hours. When adventurers finally stop after a day’s
exploring the solarmonkey adventurer can carry
on charging itself and other devices efficiently in
low light conditions thanks to the maximum power
point tracker (MPPT) technology within it and,
when the sun finally sets, the internal battery can
also keep your devices powered through the night.
All Powertraveller products undergo extensive
testing and the solarmonkey adventurer is no
exception. Feedback from the company’s most
extreme brand ambassadors was really positive and
they loved the bespoke travel case. This has been
developed using toughened materials and includes
integral fixings, straps and a carabiner so that the
solarmonkey adventurer is well protected and can
be firmly secured to a backpack to make the most
of the day’s sunlight to recharge the internal battery
unit while on the go. There are also pockets within
the case to hold your cables and tips.
One of the features of the solarmonkey adventurer
is that it can simultaneously charge the unit and
recharge a device via the USB port. The bespoke
travel case allows easy access to the USB port –
perfect for saving time when you need to check if
you have missed that important telephone call or
check your coordinates on the GPS.

The spidermonkey is a sleek, compact hub
compatible with all mobile devices that can be
recharged via USB. Designed to be as space
efficient as possible and to fit stylishly alongside
your essential devices, the spidermonkey features
four USB charging ports. Two are specifically
designed with self-sensing technology for your
Apple devices such as iPad, iPhone or iPod. This
feature automatically detects when your device is
attached and changes the charging parameters
accordingly. The third and fourth USB ports have
been designed primarily with Samsung and Nokia
devices respectively in mind but will support any
mobile device that can be charged
via 5V USB e.g. cameras.
Ready to use straight out of the box, the
spidermonkey comes with a International Mains
Charger which works in over 150 countries
worldwide but it can also be powered from your
computer’s USB port, making it the perfect
desktop product for those needing to keep devices
charged throughout the day. Alternatively, you
can power the spidermonkey via our gorilla range
of chargers through the 5V-30V socket or via the
powermonkey extreme through the 5V AC socket.
Charging via the powergorilla allows you to use
the gorilla’s multi-voltage settings to increase the
power to the USB sockets depending on your
needs.
Housed in a tough aluminium case, the
spidermonkey keeps all your mobile devices
charged from one convenient hub.
