Teddy is an abbreviation of the name Theodore. President Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt loved
hunting. One day in Mississippi a guide chained a
bear to a tree for the President to shoot, but Theodore refused to kill a chained animal for sport.
After that, many illustrations showed Teddy’s
bear as a small terrified animal.
One day a man decided to sell toy bears in his
shop. He asked for permission from President
Roosevelt to call them teddy bears. That is the
origin of the name. Have you got one? Do you
collect them?
I am George Washington’s horse, Nelson.
The picture shows me when I was young. My master was the 1st president of the United States of
America, but we did not live in The White House,
because at that time the city of Washington did
not exist.
I was calm and courageous, so during the War
of Independence against Britain, I was my master’s favourite battle horse.

Teddy is an abbreviation of the name Theodore. President Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt loved
hunting. One day in Mississippi a guide chained a
bear to a tree for the President to shoot, but Theodore refused to kill a chained animal for sport.
After that, many illustrations showed Teddy’s
bear as a small terrified animal.
One day a man decided to sell toy bears in his
shop. He asked for permission from President
Roosevelt to call them teddy bears. That is the
origin of the name. Have you got one? Do you
collect them?
