Sort the laundry into loads. l Group the laundry into loads that can be washed and dried together. See the Laundry Guide for information and samples of typical loads. l Try to mix large and small items for best movement in the washer. 2. Measure Detergent; Add to Washer Basket. l See detergent information on page 6 and in Section IV of the Laundry Guide. l Add dry bleach or water conditioner (not fabric softener) if used. Follow the package directions carefully. 3. load the Washer. l Spread the load evenly. (Don’t put all the towels on one side and a few wash cloths on the other.] An unbalanced load can cause the washer to shake during spinning. l Load without packing so items can move freely for best cleaning and least wrinkling. 4. Pour Liquid Bleach into the Dispenser. l See page 5 and the “Laundry Aids” section of the Laundry Guide for more information. 5. Add Diluted Fabric Softener only to the Deep Rinse Cycle. . DO NOT ADD FABRIC SOFTENER TO THE WASH. Fabric softeners can combine with soap or detergent to make greasy stains on fabrics. Understanding your Washer This automatic washer has cycle settings with different agitation and spin speeds for different fabric types. For example, the REGULAR HEAVY Cycle has high agitation and high spin speeds. The PERMANENT PRESS Cycle, has high agitation speeds, but low spin speeds. The washer has a LOAD SIZE SELECTOR that lets you adjust the water level to match the size of the load. It has a TEMPERATURE SELECTOR. You can select the wash and rinse water temperatures best for the amount of so11 and fabric type In each load Sections in this Use & Core Guide go Into detail on the “what and why” of each setting Read this and the Laundry Guide carefully to get the best cleaning results Cleaning Filter the lint Water runs through the lint filter whenever the washer agitates Check it often to make sure it’s clean and filtering at its best To remove it for cleaning, press the release and pull straight out. Instructions for cleaning are printed on the bottom of the filter. It has the words, LIQUID BLEACH, on it l Before startrng the washer, but after loading It, add the bleach l Use a measuring cup with a pouring spout to help avord spilling or spattering the bleach l Follow the directIons on the bottle for the amount to use Never use more than 1 cup (250 mL) for a full load. Use less with lower water level settings. Use a standard measuring cup a pouring spout to fill dispensers. level to the load For the best cleaning results, the load should move freely In the water Watch for rollover. An Item (like a sock] should sink in the mlddle and come up later on the outsrde. Be sure tc read pages 11 13 in your Laundry Guide You WIII find more informatton on loading and load sizes l Do not let any bleach run down into the washer basket. Concentrated bleach will damage any fabric. I Important Detergent Information washers with normal-size tubs. Use more detergent.. Detergents and soaps clean by loosening SOII, and by holding it In the water so It drains away. If not enough detergent IS used, soil and lint can settle bock on the items in the load. SOAP works best in soft water (O-4 grains hardness) In harder water, both the wash and rinse water should be softened Use enough soap to make about 112 to 2 inches (3.8 to 5.5 cm) of suds DETERGENT works in hard or soft water Package dlrections ore usually based on soft water and 1. for hard water. 2 for loads and water levels larger than MEDIUM. 3. for heavy greasy or oily SOIIS IS low 4. If the detergent phosphate 5 for cold-water washes. DETERGENT SUDS. There are high, normal and low sudsing powdered detergents If the recommended amount of detergent makes too much suds, switch to a lower sudsing brand. DO NOT REDUCE THE AMOUNT of detergent. Use the following chart as beginning suggestlons for powdered and liquid detergent amounts. See your Laundry Guide for more information (pages 14-22). WATER HARDNESS IN GRAINS Powdered Deteraents Low Suds - O-4 Grains 4-10 Grains IO-20 Grains 1’4 cups (300 ml) 112 cups (350 ml) 134-2 cups (425475 ml) (425 ml) 2’ 2 cups (600 ml) 3 cups (700 ml] 2 cups (475 ml] 3 cups (700 ml) 3' 2 cups (825 ml] -Follow package recommendotionsI3 to1’3 cups (80 to 325 ml]. depending on the brand and amount of soil. Follow pockage recommendations. * These recommendations do not apply... l In areas where phosphates are banned. l In areas with laws limiting (by weight or percentage) the amount of detergent used in a wash load. Normal Suds High Suds No phosphate Liquid Detergents 1z4 cups For Rinsing Only Your washer can be set to rinse only Use the setting for an extra rinse, or for laundry that only needs a rinse and LAR HEAVY If you want low agltatlon and a low-speed spin. use the dot In KNITS GENTLE. Use the dot in PERMANENT PRESS If you wont high agitation and a low-speed spin Model LA5805XK Only Using the Suds-MiseP System Then the washer fills agaln with cold water This helps keep permanent press fabrics from wrinkling during the spin If your washer has the SUDS-MISER” System, It has two &an hoses One hose drains wash water Into the storage tub, the other carries rinse water to the drain The storage tub should hold at least 20 gallons (76 liters) If you do not want to re-use wash water, leave the stopper out of the storage tub so the water drains away The basket In your super capacity washer holds more than 20 gallons (74 liters) when the LOAD SIZE SELECTOR IS set on EX LARGE Because so many storage tubs hold only 20 gallons, your washer IS deslgned to save most of the wash water and pump the rest down the drain To pump the used wash water back into the washer, push in the Cycle Control Knob Turn it to the right (clockwise) so it points to SUDS just before the time numbers In the REGULAR HEAVY Cycle. Pull the Control Knob out. The washer will start pumping the used water Into the basket. About an inch of water WIII stay in the storage tub This water will contain most of the so11 that settles out. When the washer IS finished pumping, fresh water will flnlsh filling the basket to the selected level When the washer stops filling, push the Cycle Control Knob In Add about half the recommended amount of detergent (See page 6 ) Add the load of laundry. pull the Cycle Control Knob out To Re-Use Wash Water If you have a storage tub big enough to hold about 25 gallons (95 liters), you can have a qualified installer convert your washer to save all the wash water. To Save Wash Water Be sure the stopper IS In the storage tub The SUDS-MISER system does not save wash water from the PERMANENT PRESS Cycle In the PERMANENT PRESS Cycle, part of the wash water IS dralned away (with par1 of the detergent) For Spinning There Only may be times when you spin, use the bar on PERMANENT PRESS or KNITS GENTLE All the other cycle settings have a high-speed spin.
