The EN-EL20 is a rechargeable battery
for use exclusively in Nikon digital cameras with manuals that list the EN-EL20
as a compatible power source. It can be
charged repeatedly using an MH-27 battery charger. When using this product,
be sure to read not only this manual but
also the documentation provided with
the camera and charger.

• EN-EL20 rechargeable batteries are for
use with compatible devices only.
• Charge the battery before using the
product for the first time, or before using the product following an extended
period of disuse.
• Do not use the battery at ambient tem(32°F) or above
peratures below
40°( (1 04 °F). Failure to observe this
precaution could damage the battery
or impair its performance.
• Charge indoors at ambient temperatures between 5 and 35 oc (41 to 95 oF).
·The battery will not charge if its temperature is below 0 oc (32 oF) or above
60 (140 OF).
• Do not attempt to charge a fullycharged battery. Failure to observe this
precaution will result in reduced battery
performance.

·The temper ature of some parts of the
battery may becom e elevated during
charging. Mainta ining contac t with the
battery for prolon ged periods could result in low-tem peratu re burns.
• You may notice that the battery is hot
directly after use or chargin g; this does
not indicat e a malfun ction.
• In cold conditi ons, the battery may require freque nt chargin g even when fully charge d. It is recomm ended that you
keep a fully-ch arged spare battery in a
warm place and exchan ge as necessary
when taking pictures in cold weather.
• A marked drop in the time a fullycharge d battery retains its charge, when
used at room temper ature, indicates
that the battery needs to be replaced.
Purchase a new EN-EL20 battery.
• If the battery will not be used for some
time, insert it in the camera and run it
·flat before removi ng it for storage. The
battery should be stored in a cool location with an ambien t temper ature of 15
(59 to 77 °F). Do not store the

battery in hot or extrem ely cold loca-

tions.
• Wh ile the bat tery is in storage, cha rge it
at least onc e eve ry six mo nth s and the n
use the camera to run it flat again before sto ring it in a cool, dry loca tion .
• Always rem ove the bat tery from the
camera or cha rge r whe n it is not bein g
used. Left installed, min ute am oun ts of
cur ren t flow even whe n unused, and
the bat tery ma y bec om e excessively
dra ine d and no lon ger fun ctio n.
• Afte r rem ovin g the bat tery from the
camera or charger, replace the term inal
cov er and store in a coo l place.
• Keep the battery term inal s clean.
• Should you not ice smoke or an unusual
smell com ing from the charger, unp lug
it, tak ing care to avo id burns. Take the
cha rge r to a Nik on representative for inspe ctio n.
• Used bat teri es are a valu able resource.
