Types of Spaces
There are 5 different types
of spaces:
Colored/Coloured
Spaces
When you land on a colored/
coloured space, Professor
Quigley will ask you to find
a letter by color/colour,
by the letter name or by
the letter sound.
Every letter makes a sound—
and you can learn them all!
Color/Colour
Wheel
Spin the wheel with
the pen to determine
your next move.
Spaces
Move your character to
the space indicated, then
use your pen to touch that
space to confirm it.
Sound Machine Spaces
Beginning Phonics Skills
Word Building:
As your child masters letters and letter
sounds, the Letter Factory Game begins to
introduce him or her to initial word sounds,
sequencing of letters and building three-letter
words. The game helps your child make the
connection between letters and their sounds
and encourages word building along the way—
important first steps on the road to reading!
Star Spaces
When you land on a blue
star space, get up and act
out! Professor Quigley might
ask you to use your body to
make a letter shape! Have
a blast bending and twisting
into all kinds of letters!
Other Important Skills:
The Letter Factory Game encourages players
to listen carefully, obey rules, take turns and
share. All of these skills help children perform
better both in school and in social situations.
Learning to follow Professor Quigley’s verbal
instructions helps teach your child to follow
directions. This is a vital skill that helps with
success in school.
Telephone Spaces
Board Buttons
Adaptive Leveling
All of the board buttons are
activated with the LeapPad™ pen.
Alert-Alert Spaces
When you land on the
yellow Alert-Alert spaces,
Mr. Websley needs your help!
Touch him with the pen to
hear the latest instructions
from the Letter Factory. You
never know which way Mr.
Websley will send you!
The first step in learning to read is learning
letters and letter sounds. Your child needs to
visually recognize each letter by name as well
as learn the sounds that each letter makes.
The Letter Factory™ Game is fun to play
and at the same time it teaches basic phonics
skills like letter names, letter sounds and
beginning word building with every turn!
Letter Sounds:
The Letter Factory Game helps your child
learn and remember letter names and sounds
by giving each letter its own personality. Every
letter on the board features a visual reminder
of its sound. Catchy tunes and funny gags
reinforce the sound each letter makes. Through
all types of game play your child learns to
identify each letter and the sound it makes.
When you land on a red
sound machine space,
Professor Quigley will ask
you to touch the keys on
the sound machine and then
touch a letter to create your
own song. When you’re
finished, you’ll hear the song
you created played back to
you!
When you land on a green
telephone space, Mr. Websley
is calling! Can you help him
put the letters in the correct
order? He may even need
you to find some short words
at the Letter Factory.

up to 10 minutes
Game Pieces
Move your game piece and lock-in
your move with the pen.
The Letter Factory Game adapts to the skill
level of each player. If your child has difficulty
answering questions, Professor Quigley offers
hints and gives more simplified questions in
the next round. The game also uses skills your
child already has—such as color/colour
identification—to build new skills such as
letter identification and phonemic awareness.
Because the game responds to individual skill
level, children at different skill levels can play
together and do equally well, allowing all
players to succeed and build reading confidence.
