Technology
Automatic Sensor Technology (AST)
Imagine a cooker hood that can react
automatically without you touching a switch.
Developed and patented by Elica, AST makes
use of three individual sensors which measure
heat, ambient temperature and humidity.
These control the hood by precisely assessing
the cooking conditions and adjusting the
extraction power to suit. This allows the hood
to improve air quality as well as minimising
noise levels and energy consumption.
Meteo
Meteo is our advanced electronic control
system available as an option on selected Elica
hoods. The display constantly updates you with
useful information such as a handy digital
clock and an indispensable timer with alarm.
It also shows information about the hood
such as extraction speed and condition of
filters. But it does not end there; an external
sensor supplies extra information to give you
external temperature, pressure and a useful
weather forecast.
Perimeter Aspiration
Elica now designs the air itself. Precision
engineering directs the airflow across the
entire surface of the hood, thus increasing
the effective extraction area. This Elica
developed system reduces energy consumption
and noise and has lead to the development
of some of our most striking hood designs.
Optimised Aspiration System
Elica hoods treat fumes, odours and vapour and they do it with very little noise. Our
Optimised Aspiration System has reduced
noise by 30%, reaching the ideal synthesis
between aspiration, efficiency and silence.
Smart Installation System
Smart Installation System utilises the same
simple yet strong fixings used to attach
kitchen cabinets to walls. Once the hood is
installed, Elica’s Smart Installation System
offers 3 dimensional adjustments to perfectly
align the hood to the rest of the kitchen.
Magic Wand Control
Our latest cutting edge technology “magically”
enclosed in a slender steel stem. The gentlest
of touches to the upper section controls the
extraction speed, another to the lower and the
lighting dims or rises to your command. An
illuminated ring on the stem, changes colour
with each touch to keep you informed of the
current extraction speed.
Remote Control
For even greater convenience, selected
models offer the ease of a remote control for
both light and extraction control. Innovative
design once again gives the remote control
units that special “Elica” look.
External Motors
Many Elica models offer an external motor
version. Here the motor and fan are either
located in a loft space or on an outside wall.
The result, superior performance with
reduced extractor sound. We recommend the
use of rigid or aluminium flexible ducting
when installing external motors.
Testing to the Most Vigorous Standards
The stated performance levels are measured
according to the strictest and most up-todate technical standards (Airflow/Pressure
Standard IEC61591). The values (expressed
in m3/h) are reported in the technical
specification of each product and are
designated as follows:
- IEC Airflow: test carried out with a standard
2.5m duct applied to the product.
- Maximum Airflow (Free Outlet): test carried
out directly at the outlet point of the hood.
- Noise level: standards IEC60704-1;
IEC60704-2-13.

Chimney Kits
To accommodate different ceiling heights in
different kitchen installations we offer
stainless steel chimney extension kits for
Aqua, Igloo, Key and Tamaya. Special short
chimney kits for the Aqua, Key and Tamaya are
also available.
Back Plates
For that professional finishing touch use our
stainless steel back plates. Our back plates
are stiffened with MDF and are available in
600, 700, 800, 900, 1000, 1100 or 1200 mm
widths and 650 or 750 mm heights. The fitting
flanges with depths of 20mm or 36mm make
them suitable for almost all cooker hoods
including our Glacier models.
Charcoal Filters
The Charcoal filter is the essential component
for using your Elica hood in recycling mode.
Each hood requires a specific charcoal filter
but selected hoods offer the choice of a
standard filter, which offers air cleaning and
odour removal for up to 12 months, or a long
life filter which can last over 3 years.
Long life filters are available for selected
Elica Collection and Concept range hoods
and are made of technologically advanced
activated charcoal. These waste saving filters
can be taken out of the hood, washed in a
dish washer, dried in a low oven and then
placed back in the hood.
Plinth Heaters
Add that extra bit of warmth to your kitchen
with our 2 kW built-in electric plinth heater.
This compact fan heater is designed for
installation in standard kitchen furniture
plinths with 1 kW and 2 kW heat settings and
neon indicator.

The use of smaller than recommended ducting
will adversely affect the designed performance as
regards airflow and noise levels. We recommend
the use of rigid or aluminium flexible ducting
when installing external motors.

Ducting
Fitting the correct size ducting is of vital
importance to the performance of a cooker hood
and the ducting chosen must be at least the same
size as the connector on the hood. The majority
of Elica cooker hoods require 6” (150mm) ducting
as they are high performance models, however

Design
Modern kitchens are becoming more of a
social centre to the home and are thus
increasingly driven by design. Not only
must your kitchen be a practical place
where food can be prepared and families or
friends gather, but now it must reflect your
personal style, taste and character. This is
especially true in your choice of cooker
hood; not only must it keep your kitchen
clear of steam, smoke and odours but
it must also make a strong design
statement. Style is of course a very
personal thing, but no other cooker hood
manufacturer offers more choice or
further pushes the boundaries of cooker
hood design than Elica.
Size
Most hoods are made to fit the popular
widths of hobs or cookers so you will want
to match the canopy width of your hood to
your intended hob size. However, many
modern designers sometimes double up
smaller hoods to make a very strong,
“double barreled” design statement.
Ceiling Height
It is very important for you to check the
height of your ceiling to see if a hood will
fit. Remember to allow for the height of
the units and work tops and then add a
minimum of 650mm above an electrical
hob or 700mm above a gas hob. The
remaining distance to the ceiling is where
you can fit your hood. There is no such
thing as a standard ceiling height in the
UK, so it is very important to measure up
before you buy.
Extraction Power
The hood must be powerful enough to
change the air in the kitchen ideally
10 times per hour, but at least 8. A good
formula to follow in order to help you
calculate the power that you need is to
multiply the volume of your room by
10 (Volume = length x width x height). An
average room is approximately 25m3;
therefore the extraction rate required for
the average room is 250m3/h. All Elica
cooker hoods have maximum airflow
figures in excess of 250m3/h, some as
much as 1200m3/h. If you are a more
“experimental” chef then a higher
extraction rate is recommended.
Ducting or Recycling
Will your new hood be ducted to the
outside of the house or a recycling
model? If ducted out, the ducting must
be the correct size as recommended in
the hood’s technical specification (see
pages 72 to 84). A cooker hood installed
with the correct ducting will extract
virtually all the steam, cooking odours
and airborne grease from the kitchen.
For more information on ducting see
page 71. If however, it’s impractical to
install ducting in your home, then
charcoal filters can be used to clean and
re-circulate fresh air around the room.

Installation
We recommend that your Elica cooker hood
should be installed by a qualified engineer. If the
hood is to be ducted to the outside, it is important
that the correct size of ducting is used. This will
be determined by the ducting connector on the
hood and as directed in this brochure, on our
web site (www.elica.co.uk) or in the hoods fitting
instructions.
Minimum Installation Heights
Minimum installation heights are generally
650mm above electric hobs and 700mm above gas
hobs. The height above gas is recommended for
hobs of 11.3kw or less. For higher rated hobs
please seek advice.
Our new ‘vertical’ hoods, such as ‘Mini Om’ and
‘Plaza’ can be as low as 400mm above electric
hobs and our model ‘Om’ can be as low as 300mm
above electric hobs.
Glide 600mm or 900mm decorative built in
hoods can also be as low as 430mm above
electric hobs.
