Important
Read this user manual carefully before you use the
appliance and save it for future reference.
- Check if the voltage indicated on the appliance
corresponds to the local mains voltage before you
connect the appliance.
- Check the condition of the mains cord regularly. Do
not use the appliance if the plug, the cord or the
appliance itself is damaged.
- If the mains cord is damaged, you must have it
replaced by Philips, a service centre authorised by
Philips or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid
a hazard.
- Do not wind the mains cord round the appliance.
- Keep this appliance away from water. Do not use it
near or over water contained in baths, washbasins,
sinks etc. When you use the appliance in a bathroom,
unplug it after use. The proximity of water presents a
risk, even when the appliance is switched off.
- For additional protection, we advise you to install a
residual current device (RCD) in the electrical circuit
that supplies the bathroom. This RCD must have
a rated residual operating current not higher than
30mA. Ask your installer for advice.
- The barrel and the clip of this appliance become hot
during use. Prevent contact with the skin.
- This appliance is not intended for use by persons
(including children) with reduced physical, sensory
or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and
knowledge, unless they have been given supervision
or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a
person responsible for their safety.
- Children should be supervised to ensure that they
do not play with the appliance.
- Prevent the mains cord from coming into contact
with the hot parts of the appliance.
- Only use the appliance on dry hair.
- Always unplug the appliance after use.
- Wait until the appliance has cooled down before you
store it.
- Keep the barrel clean and free of dust and styling
products such as mousse, spray and gel. Never use
the appliance in combination with styling products.
- Always return the appliance to a service centre
authorised by Philips for examination or repair. Repair
by unqualified people could cause an extremely
hazardous situation for the user.
- The barrel has a ceramic tourmaline coating. This
coating slowly wears away over time. This does not
affect the performance of the appliance.
- Keep the appliance away from flammable objects and
materials when it is switched on.
- Never cover the appliance with anything (e.g. a towel
or clothing) when it is hot.
- Never leave the appliance unattended when it is
plugged in.

Preparing for use
Washing
The straightener gives the best results on well-washed
hair. We advise you to follow the washing tips below:
1 Wet your hair thoroughly for 30-60 seconds.
2 Pour some shampoo into the palm of your hand.
Spread it between your hands and distribute it
evenly through the hair.
3 Gently massage your hair and scalp. Do not rough
up the hair or pull up long hair onto the scalp, as
this may cause tangles.
4 Massage your scalp with your fingertips. This
stimulates blood circulation and is gentler to the
hair cuticles.
5 Rinse your hair thoroughly, as poor rinsing can
result in dull hair. Finish with a cold rinse for extra
shine.
Using the appliance
Curling irons are powerful styling tools and must always
be used with care.
Styling with the curling iron
-
5 Take a lock of hair and wind it round the brush.
Make sure you wind the end of the lock in the
required direction (Fig. 11).
6 Keep the brush in your hair for approximately 15
seconds (Fig. 12).
7 Unwind the lock to remove the brush from the hair
(Fig. 13).
Cleaning
Always switch off the appliance, unplug it, put it in a safe
place and let it cool down.
Never rinse the appliance with water.
1 Clean the appliance with a small brush or a dry
cloth.
2 Remove the slide-on brush from the appliance
before you clean it.
3 Clean the slide-on brush with a moist cloth.
4 Dry the slide-on brush before you use or store it.
Storage
Always switch off the appliance, unplug it and let it cool
down before you store it.
Do not wind the mains cord round the appliance.
1 Store the appliance in a safe and dry place.
-
1 Put the mains plug in the wall socket (Fig. 2).
2 Set the on/off slide to ‘I’ to switch on the
appliance (Fig. 3).
, The green power-on light goes on. It stays on as
long as the on/off slide is set to ‘I’.
, After approximately 3 minutes, the dot on the
barrel changes colour (becomes lighter). The
appliance is now ready for use.
3 Take a lock of hair. Press the lever to open the clip
and place the lock between the barrel and the clip
(Fig. 4).
The thinner the lock of hair, the tighter the curl. In this
way, the full length of the lock comes in contact with the
heated barrel.
4 Release the lever (Fig. 5).
5 Slide the barrel to the end of the lock (Fig. 6).
6 Wind the lock round the barrel (Fig. 7).
Make sure you wind the end of the lock in the required
direction.
7 Keep the curling iron in your hair for approximately
15 seconds (Fig. 8).
8 Unwind the lock of hair until you can press the
lever to open the clip (Fig. 9).
You can comb the curls with your fingers to add volume.
Styling with the slide-on brush
You can use the slide-on brush to create waves and to
add volume to your hair.
When you unwind a lock of hair, make sure that you
hold the brush away from the underlying hair.
Environment
Do not throw away the appliance with the normal
household waste at the end of its life, but hand it in
at an official collection point for recycling. By doing
this, you help to preserve the environment (Fig. 14).

appliance (Fig. 3).
, The green power-on light goes on. It stays on as

become light.
