January - March 2010 Vol. 10, No. 1 2 "One Vision, One Team" Expo a success Visitors flocked the A&I Products event and left with their fill of great info. A fter months of planning and preparation, the A&I Products "One Vision, One Team" Expo kicked off December 1 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center and concluded on December 4 with over 950 attendees visiting the 33,600 square foot exhibit hall. The space was packed with upwards of 1000 different parts and products representing the 85,000-plus part numbers offered by more than fifty A&I Products vendors from around the world. While the weather was still moderately warm, wave 1 attendees arriving early were able to check out the open show on Monday, November 30 to get accquainted with the immense number of items on display. Open show times were scheduled at the beginning and end of each wave to allow attendees to spend additional time with specific vendors as they chose. The first wave officially kicked off at 6:30 am on Tuesday, December 1 with a top-notch breakfast in the Sioux Falls Convention Center Ballroom. Following breakfast half of the group attended each of the five excellent seminars headed by A&I Products technical experts, "There is no aftermarket parts company as easy to work with as A&I." - EXPO Attendee plus one by Lawrence Jensen of Wells Fargo Bank. These seminars touched on exciting new products including the new Surveillance Cam systems and additions to the CabCAM™ line of products, A&I's Business-to-business website features, and ideas for looking at the www.aiproducts.com marketplace and increasing business from end-users. The other half of the group was transported the short distance to the Rock Valley, Iowa home office, manufacturing, and warehouse facilities. There, they were led by veteran A&I Products employees on tours. Attendees were able to have a firsthand look at manufacturing processes, the immense size of the warehouses, and the people that work to provide A&I Products customers with quality aftermarket replacement parts. After the seminars and tours, everyone was treated to a meal. After the meal, the scheduled round-table tradeshow sessions began. Here, the attendees and sales representatives sat down and had a chance to visit with numerous vendors as they gave information on their products and fielded any questions that arose. Every fifteen minutes, 3 Top Left: Nir Klopman from Ratek Industries speaks to attendees during scheduled roundtables. Top Right: A group congregates to view a wide selection of combine parts on display. Bottom Left: Each vendor booth included a selection of parts on display for attendees to view. Bottom Right: Ward Utterback talks to a group about Centri Precleaners. the groups moved on to the next vendor, gathering information on multiple products throughout the session. When the round-table sessions were through, the floor was open to allow attendees to visit with vendors they did not have in their scheduled rotation or to speak in detail with anyone. The night was capped off with a full meal that included pheasant chowder, rolls, sirloin steak, salsa chicken, roasted vegetables & red potatoes, apple pie or cheesecake for dessert along with entertainment provided by comedian & farmer Jerry Carrol. Many of his jokes were influenced by life on a farm and mechanical follies that hit home with anyone that knows agricultural parts. Wednesday's events started similar to Tuesday with those that previously attended seminars traveling to Rock Valley for tours and the others attending the seminars. After those sessions the tradeshow floor was open all day and into the evening for those in the first wave to gather more information before heading home and those in the second wave to start their excursion following the same schedule as the first wave at the A&I Products "One Vision, One Team" EXPO. Attendees included business owners, parts managers, service technicians, do-all independents, and more. Together, dealer and repair shop representatives, vendors, and A&I Products sales reps and staff were able to gain a great wealth of information and bounce ideas off each other. The information gained by the vendors, A&I sales reps, and A&I staff members will be beneficial for everyone. Ideas were generated to offer more quality parts, offer advanced service to A&I Products customers, and more. Topics included being open to a changing market, recognizing opportunities, getting out of a "comfort zone" and taking advantage of opportunities. Linc Martin Martin Brothers Equipment Wadesboro, NC "The roundtables opened our eyes to what else is needed (to better serve A&I Products customers)." n Surveillance Cam - Presented by Jay Ouwinga & Jerry Wynia The Surveillance Cam seminar was an introductory session to this new camera observation system line ideal for monitoring offices, shops, outdoor spaces, homes, and much more. The session went over how the system works including details about the USB DVR box, the simple setup and computer connection, plus an overview on how to use the software, and all the new cameras and complete systems intended for surveillance. Blake Schnieder Grammer Seats n A&I Products B2B Website - Presented by Todd Miller & Brian Faber "It was pretty wild... When you have the people that know tractors and talk to them face-to-face, its rare from my position (as a manufacturer)." Simplified and streamlined B2B (Business-to-Business) website search techniques were covered in the seminar headed by Todd Miller & Brian Faber. They spoke of the difference and benefits of drill-down and description searches. Also outlined was the capability to search for like items, searching by model, saving search preferences, and details of description cross reference and search category sections. Steve Smith Hydraulic.net n Expand Your Vision - Presented by Carl Elbers Carl is A&I Products' CabCAM™ expert. His seminar sessions relayed a full gamut of CabCAM™ information and an introduction to some new video products. Carl's discussion included varied examples of use as well as detailed product information and demonstration. Wired and WiRELESS systems and accessories and a range of new borescopes were all a portion of the new items introduced. The very detailed presentation included information on warranties, tech support, and associated promotional material for the video products. "The kind of respect the Van Beeks give all the vendors and attendees - the hospitality was too great." Tanav Chopra Yerik International n Customers Have Choices - Presented by Jeremy Thiessen "...It was phenomenal. We were able to go oneon-one with a majority of the attendees. That's unheard of...I have not seen a show like this." With personal experience as a service technician at a implement dealership, Jeremy gave insight on choices available when repairing agricultural machinery. His example provided an actual service inspection sheet of a 2388 combine with cost comparisons, showing the value in going with quality replacement parts from A&I Products. His discussion further gave details on different combine parts, tractor parts, and hay tool parts with several examples of multiple options for different types of equipment to fit all of the different customers needs. Lynn Odland Dakota Ag Innovations, LLC n Wells Fargo Bank Presentation - Presented by Lawrence Jensen Post breakfast each day, Lawrence Jensen spoke to seminar groups in the ballroom about financial planning, analysis of timelines, and current economic trends. A & I Products has again made some useful additions to streamline your time spent on the Business-to-Business dealer website. When searching for parts, you can now create multiple parts lists or multiple held orders. These new features allow you to create individual lists and orders for different jobs or customers. This way, you can search and organize all the parts for one entity and save them in a list for quick price quoting reference and ordering. You will not have to pick through lists to sort out individual jobs. The first screen on the right shows multiple lists and multiple held orders. Anything can be entered to name the list. This sample dealer has lists for a customer (Dave N.), stock orders (belts and hay tool), as well as two other jobs (JD 4020 and 8N). This sample also shows a similar scenerio for held orders. There are three program orders (crimper, engine kit plus, and 15-line item) and one customer order (Jerry D.). The rasp bar in the search is being added to a new held order named "Jim R." In the second window, you see the new "Jim R." held order which includes rasp bars and other parts for his 2344 combine. These new options should make organizing jobs and orders for various customers easier than ever before. Next time this thought crosses your mind, send us your idea! Most utility and recreational vehicles (ATVs, go-karts, etc.) require specialty belts that are unique in their construction methods. A&I / PIX is currently stocking some of the more popular specialty part numbers and adding more of these belts all the time. The following is a list of items that make these belts unique: n n n n OEM specified length and width are critical for proper operation. The degree of side angle can vary from side to side depending on the drive assembly. A proper degree of side angle is crucial for longevity of the belt and controlling the speed of the unit. Raw edge construction keeps the belt from slipping, especially during prolonged usage. Kevlar cords and cogged construction adds to the strength of the belt during “shock load” conditions. Substituting a belt on a recreational or utility vehicle that is not made to OEM specifications will cause problems with normal operation of the equipment, can cause premature belt failure and possible additional equipment damage. JUST ADDED: Replacement belts for Polaris n Hoffco/Comet n Manco We appreciate the opportunity to serve you better through our friendly service. If you have a specialty belt that you typically sell that we do not stock, please contact us with the information you have available. We are continuously adding new part numbers to keep up with our customers needs. Before installing an A&I Products pump, you must flush the system and change all hydraulic filters. Failure to do so could cause damage to the replacement pump and therefore void warranty. Here are a few steps to help you out. A&I Products Tech Department Any further questions? contact the A&I Tech Department: 800.657.4343 [email protected] 1. Before removing the pump, starting and running the unit will warm the oil for better drainage of the system, also taking less time to drain. 2. Systems that accumulated deposits from the faulty pump that were not removed with draining the oil must be flushed out with a light viscosity fluid. In most cases the fluid should contain a rust inhibitor to protect metal surfaces affected by the contaminates after draining. 3. Inspect all hoses, lines, cylinders, and valves for wear or for particles that could cause the replacement pump to fail. 4. Performance depends on correctly cleaning the system and installing the new pump (no matter make, model, or manufacturer of the pump). Check and assure all pressures are correct according to the service manual. 5. Add the proper amount and correct viscosity of oil recommended for adequate wear protection. Fluid requirements are normally outlined in the manufacturers operation and maintenance manuals. Clean all breathers. 6. Change all filters 35 to 45 hours of operation after installing the replacement pump (new or remanufactured) Why is this necessary, if the system has been cleaned? This will guarantee that the system is essentially clean and free of any residue of the failed unit. 7. Changing the filters frequently will increase the service life of the system. www.aiproducts.com
