What is a programmable room thermostat?
Aprogrammableroomthermostatisbothaprogrammer
andaroomthermostat.Aprogrammerallowsyoutoset
“On”and“Off”timeperiodstosuityourownlifestyle.A
roomthermostatworksbysensingtheairtemperature,
switchingontheheatingwhentheairtemperaturefalls
belowthethermostatsetting,andswitchingitoffoncethis
settemperaturehasbeenreached.
So,aprogrammableroomthermostatletsyouchoosewhat
timesyouwanttheheatingtobeon,andwhattemperature
itshouldreachwhileitison.Itwillallowyoutoselect
differenttemperaturesinyourhomeatdifferenttimesofthe
day(anddaysoftheweek)tomeetyourparticularneeds.
Turningaprogrammableroomthermostattoahighersetting
willnotmaketheroomheatupanyfaster.Howquickly
theroomheatsupdependsonthedesignoftheheating
system,forexample,thesizeoftheboilerandradiators.
Neitherdoesthesettingaffecthowquicklytheroomcools

down.Turningaprogrammableroomthermostattoalower
settingwillresultintheroombeingcontrolledatalower
temperature,andsavesenergy.
Thewaytosetanduseyourprogrammableroom
thermostatistoindthelowesttemperaturesettingsthat
youarecomfortablewithatthedifferenttimesyouhave
chosen,andthenleaveitalonetodoitsjob.
Thebestwaytodothisistosetlowtemperaturesirst,say
18ºC,andthenturnthemupbyonedegreeeachdayuntil
youarecomfortablewiththetemperatures.Youwon’thave
toadjustthethermostatfurther.Anyadjustmentabove
thesesettingwillwasteenergyandcostyoumoremoney.
Ifyourheatingsystemisaboilerwithradiators,there
willusuallybeonlyoneprogrammableroomthermostat
tocontrolthewholehouse.Butyoucanhavedifferent
temperaturesinindividualroomsbyinstallingthermostatic
radiatorvalves(TRVs)onindividualradiators.Ifyoudon’t
haveTRVs,youshouldchooseatemperaturethatis
reasonableforthewholehouse.IfyoudohaveTRVs,you

canchooseaslightlyhighersettingtomakesurethat
eventhecoldestroomiscomfortable,thenpreventany
overheatinginotherroomsbyadjustingtheTRVs.
Thetimeontheprogrammermustbecorrect.Sometypes
havetobeadjustedinspringandautumnatthechanges
betweenGreenwichMeanTimeandBritishSummerTime.
Youmaybeabletotemporarilyadjusttheheating
programme,forexample,“Override”,“Advance”or“Boost”.
Theseareexplainedinthemanufacturer’sinstructions.
Programmableroomthermostatsneedafreelowofair
tosensethetemperature,sotheymustnotbecovered
bycurtainsorblockedbyfurniture.Nearbyelectricires,
televisions,wallortablelampsmaypreventthethermostat
fromworkingproperly.

Installation Procedure

Installation
Thethermostatisdesignedtobelushmount,aback
boxof35mmshouldhavebeensunkinthewallpriorto
installation.
Step1
Carefullyseparatethefronthalfofthethermostatfromthe
backplatebyplacingasmalllatheadterminaldriverinto
theslotsonthebottomfaceofthethermostat.

Carefullyunplugtheribbonconnectorwhichispluggedinto
thefronthalfofthethermostat.
Placethethermostatfronthalfsomewheresafe.
Terminatethethermostatasshowninthediagramsatthe
backofthisbooklet.
Screwthethermostatbackplateontothebackbox.
Step3
Re-connectthethermostatribboncableandclipthetwo
halvestogether.

Temperature Display
The JGSTAT2/TS/V3 provides control of 2 zones. The zone
selected is underlined, you can select a different zone by
pressing Zone 1 or Zone 2.
Room Temp=Thisisthecurrentroomtemperature.
SET=Thisisthetemperatureyouaretryingtoachievein
yourhome.

Comfort Levels Explained
Comfortlevelsallowyoutosetdifferenttemperatures
throughouttheday.Forexample,youmaywantthehome
warminthemorningwhenyouaregettingreadyforwork,
coolerduringthedaywhenthehouseisunoccupiedand
thenwarmerintheeveningwhenyouarehomerelaxing.
Thethermostatoffers5/2DayProgramming(4levelsfor
theweekday,4fortheweekend)and7dayProgramming
(4levelsforeachday).Seepages17-22fordetailsonhow
toswitchbetweenthesemodes.
Tip!Ifyoudon’twanttouseallofthecomfortlevels,just
setthetimeto--.—andthethermostatwillignorethis
setting.

Changing the Comfort Levels
• SelecttheZoneyouwishtoalter,thezoneselectedwill

• Usetosetthetimeforthe1stComfortlevel.
• Usetosetthetemperaturein°C.
• YoushouldnowrepeatfortheLeave,Return&Sleep
levels.
• PressDaytoselectthenextday.In5/2daymodethe
thermostatwillhighlight“SatSun”promptingyouto
programthetemperaturelevelsfortheweekend.In7
daymode,thethermostatwillhighlightTuesday.
• Whencomplete,pressDonetoStoreandExit.

Locking the Keypad
Thethermostathasakeylockfacility.Toenablethispress
thebottomrightcornerofthedisplayandholdfor10
seconds.
Whenactivated,youwillsee.
Tocancel,repeatthestepsabove.
Temperature Override
Usingthekeysallowsyoutoadjusttheset
temperature.Whenyoupresseitherofthesekeys,youwill
seethewordSETandthedesiredtemperature.PressDone
toaccept.
Note:Youshouldnotethatthisnewtemperatureis
maintainedonlyuntilthenextprogrammedcomfortlevel.At
thistime,thethermostatwillrevertbacktotheprogrammed
levels.

Temperature Hold
TheTemperatureHoldfunctionisidealforpartiesorwhen
youwillbegoingoutforanumberofhours.Itallowsyouto
holdatemperatureforadesiredperiod.
• PressHOLD.
• Thezoneselectedisunderlined,youcanselecta
differentzonebypressingZone1orZone2.
• SetthedesiredHoldtimeandtemperature.
• PressDone.
• Tocancel,repeatthestepsaboveandreducethetimeto
00.00.

Holiday
TheHolidayfunctionreducesthesettemperatureinyour
hometothefrosttemperaturesetting.Thethermostatwill
maintainthistemperatureforthedurationoftheholidayand
willthenautomaticallyreturntotheprogrammodeonyour
return.
AssumeyouprogramaholidayonMondayfor1day,the
holidaywillstartimmediately,butthethermostatwillcount
thenextday(Tuesday)astheholiday.Thethermostatwill
thenrevertbacktoitsprogramatMidnightTuesday.

Heat On / Off
Frost Protect Mode:PressingtheOffbuttononcewill
placethethermostatinfrostprotectmode.Inthismode,
thethermostatwilldisplaythefrosticonandwillonlyturn
theheatingonshouldtheroomtemperaturedropbelowthe
setfrosttemperature(seepages17-22).Shouldtheheating
beturnedonwhilstinfrostmode,thelamesymbolwillbe
displayed.Tocancelthefrostprotectmode,presstheOn
button.
Thermostat Off:Toturnthethermostatoffcompletely,
pressandholdtheOffbutton.Thedisplayandheating
outputwillbeturnedoff.Toturnthethermostatbackon,
presstheOnbutton.
Clean Screen
PressingCleanScreenwilldisableallbuttons,allowingyou
15secondstowipethescreenclean.

Factory Reset
Whenthethermostatison,pressandholdtheSCREEN
buttonfor10secondsandwhenyouseealltheicons
appear,presstheDONEbutton.Thescreenwillgoblank
-thethermostathasbeenresetbacktothefactorydefaults.
Pressthepowerbuttontoturnthethermostatbackon.

Feature 01 – Temperature Format:Thisfunctionallows
youtoselectbetween°Cor°F.
Feature 02 - Switching Differential:Thisfunctionallows
youtoincreasetheswitchingdifferentialofthethermostat.
Thedefaultis1°Cwhichmeansthethermostatwillswitch
theheatingon0.5°Cbelowthesettemperatureandwill
turnitoff0.5°Cabovethesettemperature.Witha2°C
differential,theheatingwillswitchon1.5°Cbelowthe
settemperatureandwillswitchoff0.5°Cabovetheset
temperature.
Feature 03 - Frost Protect:Youcansetwhetherthe
thermostatwillmaintainthefrosttemperaturewhen
thethermostatdisplayisturnedoff.Asadefault,thisis
enabled.

Feature 04 – Frost Protect Temperature:Thisisthe
temperaturemaintainedwhenthethermostatisinfrost
mode.Therangeis07-17°C.Thedefaultis12°Candis
suitableforalmostallapplications.
Feature 05 – Output Delay:Topreventrapidswitching,
anoutputdelaycanbeentered.Thiscanbesetfrom
00-15minutes.Thedefaultis00whichmeansthereisno
delay.
Feature 06 – Communication Address:Thissetting
isusedwhenyouhaveconnectedyourthermostattoa
networksystem.Eachthermostatonthenetworkmusthave
auniquecommunicationaddress.Thiscanbesetfrom
01-32.
Feature 07 – Temperature Up/Down Limit:Thisfunction
allowsyoutolimittheuseoftheupanddowntemperature
arrowkeys.Thislimitisalsoapplicablewhenthethermostat
islockedandsoallowsyoutogiveotherslimitedcontrol
overtheheatingsystem.

Feature 08 – Optimum Start:Optimumstartwillbringthe
heatingonearlyifneeded,sothehouseiswarmwhenyou
wakeup.Thismeansyoudon’tneedtoallowanyextra
heatuptimewhenprogrammingthecomfortlevels.The
thermostatwillautomaticallylearntherequiredheatuptime
andwilladjustitself,ifrequired,throughouttheyear.
Feature 09 – Rate Of Change:Thisisthenumberof
minutesthethermostathascalculatedittakestoraiseyour
building1°C.Thethermostatwillcontinuetolearntheheat
uptimeofyourhomeandwilladjustthissettingtosuit.
Feature 10 – 5/2 Day 7 Day Programmable:This
functionallowsyoutoswitchbetween5/2dayor7day
programming.5/2daymeansyoucanprogram4comfort
levelsfortheweekdayand4differentlevelsforthe
weekend.7dayprogrammingallowsyoutoprogram4
temperaturelevelsforeachdayoftheweek.

Adjusting the Optional Settings
Toadjustthesettings,followthesesteps:
• Withthethermostatturnedon,pressPROG.
• PressSETUP.
• Usetheatthetopofthescreentoselectthe
featurenumber(shownonpages21-22).
• Asthisthermostatoperatestwozones,youshouldselect
zoneoneorzonetwotosetuptheparametersforthat
zone.
• Usetheinthecentretoadjustthesetting.
• PressDonetoacceptandStore.
(NB:Ifyoudon’tseethezoneselectbuttons,itmeansthe
settingisaglobalsettingandthesettingwillbeappliedto
bothzones)
