CanIpowermy CanIpowermy myRE·BL RE BL BLfrommy frommyPS3 myPS3’ PS3’sUSBport USBport Yes,theRE·BLcanbepoweredfromthePS3USBport,butthePS3doesnotsupplypowertoitsUSBportwhenitis poweredoff.ThereforeyouwillnotbeabletoturnonthePS3fromyourIRremotecontrolifitdoesnothavean additionalpowersource.IfyoudonotwishtouseanexternalDCadaptor,youcouldusebatteriestopowertheRE·BL whenthePS3isoff.TheRE·BLwillautomaticallydrawpowerfromtheUSBportwhenthePS3ison.Thiswayyoucan controlthePS3asnormalandyoudonotneedanyexternalDCadaptor.Alsobatterylifewillbeincreasedsincepoweris suppliedbytheUSBportwheneverthePS3isturnedon. Pleasenote:Fromconfigurationssoftwarev1.19(firmware1.23)andup,anautopairingfeaturewasaddedwhichno longerrequiresthe"2"keytobepressed.Simplyenterthe"RegisterBDRemote"menuonthePS3,andpoweronthe RE·BL.Thepairingwilltheninitiateautomatically. 6. WhatispowerWhatispower-trackingandhowdoesitwork? trackingandhowdoesitwork? ThePS3hasnospecificpower-offcommand,sopower-offisimplementedasasequenceofcommands(amacro)inthe RE·BLfirmware.Pressingpoweroffontheremotewillinitiatethemacro. IfthePS3isalreadyoffwhenpressingpoweroffontheremote(forinstanceifthecontrollerhasbeenusedtoturnofthe PS3),thePS3willbootupinsteadofturningoff.Thepowerstatewillbeoutofsync. RE·BLhas2waysofovercomingthisproblem,internalandexternal(USB)powertracking.Theycanbeenabledinthe configurationsoftware(fromv1.15andup).Internalandexternalisdefaultoff. TheUSB(external/hardware)powertrackingworkslikethis: IftheRE·BLdoesnotdetectaUSB-link(PS3=Off)itignoresthepoweroffmacro.TheUSBlinkisonlypresentfromthe PS3whenthePS3ison. Theinternalpowertrackingworkslikethis: Whenpoweredup,theRE·BLsetsit'sinternalstatetoOff.WhentheinternalstateisOff,itignoresthepoweroffmacro. Anyotherkeyisallowed,andanyotherkeywillchangetheinternalstatetoOn(anyotherkeywillalsopowerupthe PS3).OncetheinternalstateisOn,thepoweroffmacroisallowedwhichinturnwillsetthestatetoOff. IfthePS3andRE·BLcomesoutofsync,(PS3=On,Internalstate=Off)theRE·BLwillnotissueapoweroffmacrountilat leastoneotherkeyhasbeenpressedchangingthestatetoOn.Thentheywillbesyncedagain. IfPS3=OffandInternalstate=On,anaccidentalfiringofthepoweroffmacrowillcausethePS3toturnonaccidentally. 7. MyLogitechHarmonyremoteseemstobeslowinresponse,especiallywhenI'mscrollingthroughmenus? ThereasonisthattheLogitechHarmonybydefaultsendsastopcommand,thenimmediatlysendsthepower-offmacro.A stopcommandtakesalongtimetoexecuteonthePS3(upto10seconds),andthepower-offmacroistherefore"lost". Thesolutionistoinsertalongdelaybetweenthestop-command,or(better),removethestopcommandcompletely. ThisisdoneintheLogitechHarmonyconfigurationsoftware,underthesettingsfortheactivity(forinstance"Watcha BD").Choose"Changeoptions"andpress[Next].Thenchoose"Dontsendstopcommand"underthe"Stoponexit" property.Presssaveandupdateyourremotecontrol. Theaboveisonlyaproblemwithactivities.UsingthePoweroffbuttonundertheRE·BLdevice,powersoffthePS3as expected. 9. Whenpressingthepoweroffbuttononmyremote,myPS3Slimsometimesdoesn'tturnoff? Whenpressingthepower-offbuttononmyremote,myPS3Slimsometimesdoesn'tturnoff? Whenpressingthepower-offbutton,RE·BLexecutesamacrothatgoesthroughnumerousdifferentcommands,toturn offthePS3. ThefirstcommandsentisaPSkeypress,withalengthof2500ms(2,5seconds).ThePS3Slimsometimesrequiresa slightlylongerkeypresstoenterthepower-offmenu,andwehavefound3750ms(3.75seconds)toworkwellwithboth theoriginalPS3andthePS3Slim. Thechangecanbemadeintheconfigurationsoftware,undertheMacrotab.Choosethepower-offmacro(firstonthe list),andchangethevalue2500to3750onthePS/Powertogglecommandandpress"Save". Configurationsoftwarev1.22andhigheralreadyhasthevalue3750asdefault. 10. WhatisthedifferencebetweenRE·BLandRE WhatisthedifferencebetweenRE BLandRE·BLX? BLandRE BLX? BLX? RE·BLX(extendedversion)isanewversionoftheRE·BL(classicversion),releasedinFebruary2010.RE·BLXistheresult ofthefeedbackandsuggestionswehavereceivedfromusersoftheoriginalRE·BL. ThemajorimprovementovertheoriginalRE·BL,istheIRportwhichsupportsalmostanykindofIRsignalling, demodulatedsignalsfromanexternalIReye,ormodulatedsignalsfromanIRdistributionnetwork.Anauto-sense functionchoosesbetweenthedifferentinputmodesautomatically. OneofthemostinterestingnewfeaturesoftheIRport,istheabilityofRE·BLXworkingasanIRrepeater.Thisisvery usefulforA/Vdevicesplacedinaclosedrack.RE·BLXwilltakeanysignalreceivedfromtheinternalIRreceiver,and transmitittoasingle,dualorquadIRemittercableconnectedtotheIRport,whilestillprovidingtheusualfunctionality ofIRtoBluetoothconversion. (SinceRE·BLXkeepsallcurrentfeaturesfromtheRE·BL(classicversion)andisavailableatthesameretailprice,RE·BL (classicversion)willnolongerbeproducedorsold).
