performance and enjoyment out of your Sigma lens, please read this instruction booklet
thoroughly before you start to use the lens.

NIKON AF TYPE CAMERAS
This lens functions in the same way as a G Type auto-focus Nikon lens {without an aperture
ring). Functions may be restricted depending on the lens/camera combination . For more
details, please refer to the camera's instruction manual .
PENTAX AF TYPE CAMERAS
This Lens functions same as a FAJ Type (type without Aperture) auto-focus Pentax lens.
Depending on the combination with camera some restrictions with its functions may result.
For more details, please refer to instruction manual of the camera in use etc.
ATTACHING TO CAMERA BODY
When this lens is attached to the camera body it will automatically function in the same way
as the camera manufacturer's lens. Please refer to the instruction booklet for your camera
body.
+On the lens mount surface, there are a number of couplers and electrical contacts.
Please keep them clean to ensure proper connection.
+Whi le changing the lens, be sure to place it front end down to avoid damaging the rear
mount

For autofocus operation, set the focus mode switch on the lens to the "AF~ position (fig.2). If
you wish to focus manually, set the focus mode switch on the lens to the ~ M ~ position. You
can adjust the focus by turn ing the focus ring.
( NIKON AF, PENTAX AF, and SONY)
For autofocus operation, set the camera to AF mode and set the focus mode switch on the
lens to the "AF" position (fig.2). If you wish to focus manually, set the focus mode switch on
the lens to the "M ~ position . You can adjust the focus by turning the focus ring .
+Please refer to camera's instruction man ual for details on changing the camera's
focusing mode.
+For Nikon , Pentax and Sony mounts, it is only possible to use AF with camera bodies
which support motors driven by ultrasonic waves such as HSM. AF will not function if
the camera body does not support this type of motor.
+This fens also permits manual focusing even in the autofocus mode. With the camera
set to the One-Shot AF (AF-S) mode, it is possible to manually override the autofocus
while the shutter release button is pressed halfway.
+When operating this lens in manual focus mode , it is recommended that correct focus be
confirmed visually in the viewfinder rather than relying on the distance scale. This is
due to possible focus shift resulting from extreme changes in temperature which cause
various components in the lens to expand and contract. Special allowance is made for
this at the infinity setting.

Rotate the Rubber grip on the zoom ri ng to the desired position .
ZOOM LOCK SWITCH
This lens is also equipped with Zoom Lock Switch to el iminate the zoom creep when the
lens is tilted down. Please set zooming ring to 150mm and set the zoom lock switch to the
U LOCK~ position, (fig.3), however. please slide the lens to the "UNLOCK" position from
"LOCK" position, before taking the picture.
ABOUT OS (OPTICAL STABILIZER) FEATURES
This OS (Optical Stabilizer) lens effectively compensates for image blurring caused by
camera shake.
With this lens, you can take pictures at shutter speeds approx 4 steps slower than you
could without using the OS function of this lens and can get sharp results.
Set the OS ( Optical Stabilizer) switch to Mode 1 (fig . 4). Press the shutter button halfway
down, confirm the image in the viewfinder is stable then take the picture. (It takes
approximately 1 second to produce a stable image, after pressing the shutter button
halfway). Mode 2, detects the vertical camera shake, and overcomes blurring. It is effective
on subjects moving horizontal to the camera.
+The blurring compensation function of Optical Stabilizer is effective for hand-held
shooting. In the following conditions, Optical Stabilizer may not function property.
• Shots from the a moving vehicle
• If there is a considerable camera motion or shake.
+Please do not use Optical Stabilizer in the following situations.
• When the lens is mounted on a tripod.
• Bulb (long time exposure).
+Optical Stabilizer function is powered from the camera. If the OS lens is attached to your
camera and activated, shooting capacity of your camera will be lower than with
conventional lenses used with the same camera. If you are not using Optical Stabilizer,
please turn OFF the OS switch. in order to prevent consumption of a battery.
+Be sure to turn of OS switch to OFF position , before attaching or detaching the lens to
the camera .
+The Optical Stabilizer continues to operate after you release your finger from the shutter
button , as long as the exposure meter displays the exposure value. Never remove the
lens or remove the camera 's battery while the image stabilizer is operating, you could
damage the lens.
+Although the viewfinder image may appear to shake immed iately after shooting and at
the start of the flash charge cycle of the built-in flash of the camera etc. , it will not cause
any effect on pictures .
+If the camera power is turned off or lens is detached while the Optical Stabilizer function
is in operation , the lens may emit a chattering noise, but this is not a malfunction .
+For Sony and Pentax mounts, it is only possible to use the OS function, incorporated in
this lens. with camera bod ies which support motors driven by ultrasonic waves such as
HSM. When using the OS function , please turn off the optical stabilizer function of the
camera body and set the OS switch of the lens to ON. When using the camera's optical
stabilizer function, please set the OS switch of the lens to OFF and turn the camera's
optical stabilizer function on .
+If using this lens with a KONICA MINOLTA DYNAX I MAXXUM 70, OYNAX I MAXXUM
50 or SONY A100 camera , please turn the OS switch of the lens off before turning the
camera body off. The OS unit of the lens will not fix into its position if the camera body is
turned off before switching off the lens' OS mechanism. Ignoring this notice might cause
damage to the lens.
•optical S1abilizer feature can work with the Nikon AF cameras shown in the following
table. When using this lens with other camera models not listed in the following table,
please set the OS Switch to OFF position to cancel the Optical Stabilizer function.

TRIPOD SOCKET AND COLLAR
This lens is equipped with a tripod socket. When you loosen the locking knob on the collar,
the lens and camera can rotate freely to easily position the camera horizontally or vertically
(fig.5).
HOW TO REMOVE THE TRIPOD COLLAR
1.1t is possible to remove the lens' tripod socket, for more convenient hand-held
photography, if desired. To do so, first loosen the tripod collar locking knob, and, align the
index mark of the collar, with the ~REMOVE position (fig.6).
2. Then, pull the tripod collar straight back, as shown in Fig.?, removing the collar.
+When you wish to re-attach the tripod collar to the lens, please reverse the procedure
above.
+Please, do not set the tripod collar to the ~REMOVE position, except when you are
removing, or attaching, the tripod collar, as the lens may inadvertently detach from the
collar and fall. Also, please remember to tighten the locking knob to prevent the lens
from rotating unintentionally.
+When the lens is mounted on the camera, the tripod collar cannot be removed from the
lens.
SHOULDER STRAP
Please attach the shoulder strap to the sling as described in figure 8.
FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY
The camera's built-in flash will cause barrel shadow if used with this lens. For best results,
please only use an external flash unit.
ABOUTTELECONVERTERS
The lens can be used with Sigma's 1.4x EX or 2.0x EX Apo Tele Converters (optional),
becoming a 210-?00mm F?-9 telephoto zoom lens or a 300-1000mm F10-13 telephoto
zoom lens respectively (both can be used in manual focus only) .
+Do not use other manufacturers' teleconverter's, only those listed above are compatible.
+The Pentax mount Tele Converter is not compatible with this particular lens.
+We recommend the DG APO Tele-Converters when using with DSLR cameras.
+It is possible to use auto focus in Live View if the camera is in "contrast detect" AF mode.

+In order to place the lens and hood into the storage case, you must first remove the hood,
then replace it on the lens in the reverse position. (fig.1 0)
FILTER
+Only one filter should be used at a time. Two or more filters and/or special, thicker
filters, such as a polarizing filter, may cause vignetting.
+When using a polarizing filter with an AF camera, use the "circular" type.
BASIC CARE AND STORAGE
+Avoid any shocks or exposure to extreme high or low temperatures or to humidity.
+For extended storage, choose a cool and dry place, preferably with good ventilation. To
avoid damage to the lens coating, keep away from mothballs or naphthalene gas.
+Do not use thinner, benzine or other organic cleaning agents to remove dirt or finger
prints from the lens elements. Clean by using a soft, moistened lens cloth or lens
tissue.
+This lens is not waterproof. When using the lens in the rain or near water, prevent it
from getting wet. It is often impractical to repair the internal mechanism, lens elements
and electric components damaged by water.
+Sudden temperature changes may cause condensation or fog to appear on the surface
of the lens. When entering a warm room from the cold outdoors, it is advisable to keep
the lens in the case until the temperature of the lens approaches room temperature.

SIGMA provides the consumer with its own manufacturer's warranty for this product, for
a period of one year from the initial sale date, subject to the following conditions:
• Should the product exhibit deficiencies during this warranty period on account of material or
manufacturing defects, it will be repaired free of charge according to our best judgement or it
will be replaced with a defect-free product.

which can be proven by submitting the original purchase receipt together with the original
SIGMA warranty card, duly completed by the dealer.
• Repair under this warranty must be carried out by one of SIGMA's own repair workshops or by
an authorised workshop, to which the defected piece of equipment should be sent carriage paid .
Costs for repairs that are carried out by an unauthorised workshop will not be reimbursed.
• Repairs under this warranty take place at authorized service stations, and length of time for
repairs in countries without such stations should account for time of transportation of product
to such a station.
• Spare parts are stored for a regulated period of time. After this time has elapsed, if these
spare parts are depleted then it may prove impossible to carry out repairs even within the
specified one year period from data of purchase. SIGMA may return unrepaired products after
inspection, or when the product is evaluated as unserviceable due to unavailability of parts,
or repair is rejected after quotation , or other reason.
• This warranty does not apply to damage, defects or malfunctions caused by use not in
compliance with the instructions, improper use, impact, being dropped or contamination
caused by, for example, moisture, sand, dust, dirt or battery leakage.
• This warranty also does not apply to damage caused by or exacerbated by improper attempts
at repair.
• This warranty does not include the repair, maintenance or replacement of components, which
are damaged or worn out in the regular course of normal use.
• This warranty does not apply to any accessories, consumables and any software.
• This warranty does not apply to products which have been serviced or modified by anyone
other than authorized SIGMA service stations.
• This warranty does not apply to defects caused by use of accessories, attachments, products,
parts or devices which do not conform to SIGMA specification. This warranty expires if
alterations to the product are undertaken without the express written approval of SIGMA.

been removed, altered or rendered illegible.
This warranty is not transferable. This warranty only applies to those SIGMA products
for which this warranty card has been issued. SIGMA is only liable for damages based
on compelling, statutory regulations, in particular in accordance with the terms of the
relevant product liability law, but not limited hereunto, and is only responsible for
repairing those SIGMA products. In particular claims under this warranty do not include
replacement claims for destroyed films, wasted development costs, data Joss, batteries,
travel expenses, loss of income, fees or other consequential losses of any kind caused
by the material defect. You have responsibility to back up any data , as it may be lost
during repair. All customer settings may also be lost due to repair.
All other warranties, in particular assumed warranties, which have been given by third
parties in an express or implied manner, are not binding on SIGMA, but rather on those
who have given these warranties.
Insofar as the buyer has acquired the SIGMA product as a consumer as per the Jaw, this
manufacturer's warranty does not affect his country-specific statutory rights arising
hereunder against the seller.

If the product needs to be repaired, please send it in shock-proof packaging, with a
detailed description of the defect as well as the completed warranty card, the original
purchase receipt and , if possible, illustrative images that demonstrate the problem to the
authorised service centre responsible for your country. In your own interest, please
ensure that the package is adequately insured. SIGMA only accepts carriage-paid
packages which also cover the return cost of repaired products. Should you wish to
send your equipment carriage unpaid, please return it to the contracting party from the
purchase contract, i.e. your supplier.

Should SIGMA establish that, for any equipment returned under these warranty terms, a

ESTA ES LA GARANTIA LIMITADA AMERICANA DE UN AtiJO (VALIDA EN LA ANQUILLA,
ANTIGUA, ARGENTINA, ARUBA, BAHAMAS, BARBADOS, BELICE, BERMUDA, BOLIVIA,
BRASIL. CANADA, ISLAS CAIMAN. CHILE. COLOMBIA, COSTA RICA, DOMINICA,
REPUBLICA DOMINICANA, ECUADOR, EL SALVADOR, GRANADA, GUATEMALA,
GUAYANA, HAITI, HONDURAS, JAMAICA, MEJICO, MONTSERRAT, NICARAGUA,
PANAMA. PARAGUAY, PERU, PUERTO RICO, SAN CRISTOBAL, SANTA LUCIA, ISLA DE
SAN MARTIN, SAN VICENTE, SURINAM, TRINIDAD , ISLAS TURKOS & CAICOS,
URUGUAY, EE.UU ., ISLAS VIRGENES, VENEZUELA).

Esta garantla es adicional a los derechos legales existentes, y nada en esta garantla
afectara a ninguno de los derechos legales del consumidor.
SIGMA ofrece al consumidor Ia garantla propia de fabrica para este producto, par un
periodo de un aiio desde Ia fecha de venta, sujeta a las siguientes condiciones:
• En el caso de las deficiencies del producto durante este periodo de garantia debido a
materiales o defectos de fabricaci6n, se reparara de forma gratuita y en caso de no
ser posible, sera sustituido par un producto libre de defectos, segun nuestro criteria.
• El requisite para reclamar bajo garantla de fabrica es Ia fecha de compra. que ha de
ser probada mediante Ia presentacion del recibo original de compra junto con Ia tarjeta
de garantla original SIGMA, debidamente cumplimentada par el vendedor.
• La reparacion en garantfa debe ser realizada par el taller de reparacion oficial de
Sigma o autorizado, al que debe enviarse el producto afectado a partes pagados. Los
costas de las reparaciones que se llevan a cabo en un taller no autorizado no seran
reembolsados.
• Las reparaciones cubiertas por esta garantia se realizan en el servicio tecnico autorizado,
en el menor tiempo posible. En los parses que carecen de tales servicios se debe
tener en cuenta el tiempo de transports del producto a dicho servicio tecnico oficial.
• Las piezas de repuesto para poder reparar los articulos se almacenan durante un
periodo de tiempo regulado. Despues de transcurrido este tiempo, si estas piezas se
agotan, resultara imposible llevar a cabo Ia reparaci6n, incluso dentro del perfodo del
aiio especificado en los datos de compra. SIGMA puede devolver el producto sin
reparar despues de Ia inspeccion, o cuando el producto se valera como "fuera de
servicio" debido a Ia falta de disponibilidad de piezas o Ia reparaci6n se rechazara por
su elevado coste, a par otros motives
• Esta garantia no se aplica a los danos, defectos o mal funcionamiento causados par
un uso no conforms a las instrucciones, usa indebido, impacto, caidas o
contaminacion, causada par ejemplo, par humedad , arena. polvo, suciedad o daiios
de Ia bateria.
• Esta garantia tampoco se aplicara a los danos causados por intentos incorrectos de
reparacion.
• Esta garantia no incluye Ia reparacion, mantenimiento o sustitucion de componentes,
que estan gastados o daiiados en el curse regular del usa normal.
• Esta garantia nose aplica a accesorios, consumibles y software
• Esta garantia no se aplica a productos que hayan sido reparados a modificados par
personas ajenas a los servicios tecnicos autorizados SIGMA.
• Esta garantia no se aplica a defectos causados por el usa de los accesorios,
complementos, productos, piezas o dispositivos que no se ajusten a las
especificaciones SIGMA. Esta garantia caduca si las alteraciones del producto se
llevan a cabo sin Ia aprobacion expresa y par escrito de SIGMA.
• No se aceptaran reclamaciones bajo esta garantia si Ia descripcion del modele y I o
numero de serie ha sido eliminado, alterado o resulta ilegible.
Esta garantia noes transferible. Esta garantia solo se aplica al producto SIGMA para el
que ha sido emitido. SIGMA solo es responsable de los daiios sabre Ia base de normas
de obligado cumplimiento, disposiciones legales, en particular, de conformidad con los
terminos de Ia ley de responsabilidad del producto, y solo es responsable de Ia
reparacion de los productos de SIGMA. En particular, las alegaciones de esta garantia
no incluyen las reclamaciones de repuesto para las peliculas destruidas, perdida de
ingresos, perdida de datos, baterias, gastos de viaje, gastos u otras perdidas
consecuentes de cualquier tipo causados por el defecto de material. Usted tiene Ia
responsabilidad de hacer capias de seguridad de los datos, ya que podrian perderse

una reparacion.

En Ia medida en que el comprador haya adquirido el producto SIGMA como un
consumidor segun Ia ley, esta garantfa de fabricante no afecta a sus derechos legales
especificos del pais que surgen del contrato entre vendedor y usuario.

Monserrate, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguai, Peru, Porto Rico, St Kitts, St Lucia , Sao
Martinho, Sao Vicente, Suriname, Trinidad, Turcos e Caicos, Uruguai, EUA, llhas
Virgem Americanas, Venezuela)
Valida somente para produtos que tenham sido importados para os respetivos paises
par importadores oficiais Sigma .
Nota lmportante

ilustrativas que muestren el problema, al servicio tecnico autorizado de su pals. Par
su propio interes, par favor asegurese de que el paquete este asegurado
adecuadamente. SIGMA solo acepta paquetes a partes pagados, el importe de los
partes del articulo una vez reparado tambien son a cargo del propietario del mismo. Si
desea enviar su equipo a partes no pagados, por favor envielo a Ia parte contratante del
contrato de compra, es decir, su vendedor, donde fue adquirido el mismo.
SIGMA establece que, para cualquier equipo que no cumpla las condiciones de
garantla anteriormente descritas, Ia reclamacion de reparacion libre de cargo o el
reemplazo, no esta justificado. El cliente sera informado de esto junto con los posibles
gastos de reparacion . Si el cliente no responde al comunicado en dos semanas, el
equipo le sera devuelto sin reparar.

assistencia SIGMA au par urn centro autorizado Sigma. 0 envio do equipamento deve
ser feito com partes pages pelo cliente. Os custos de reparacao realizados par centres
de assistencia tecnica nao autorizados. nao serao reembolsados.
• As reparacoes ao abrigo desta garantia sao efetuadas em centres de assistencia
autorizados, par conseguinte em paises aonde nao existem estes centros o tempo de
reparacao deve ter em conta o transporte para e destes centros no estrangeiro.
• As pecas sobressalentes estao disponiveis par tempo regulado. Depois deste tempo,
se as pecas estiverem esgotadas, pode ser impassive! reparar produtos mesmo que
as mesmos estejam ao abrigo desta garantia de urn ano. Nestes casas a Sigma
reserva-se o direito de devolver a produto par reparar depois de devidamente
inspecionado, par falta de pe<;:as, par nao aceitacao de cotacao, au outras razoes.
• Esta garantia nao se aplica a danos, defeitos au avarias causados pela utilizacao
inapropriada do equipamento, pela nao conformidade com o manual de instrucoes,
par quedas, au se o produto for sujeito a contaminacao, de par exemplo, poeiras,
areia, humidade, sujidade, au lfquido de baterias.
• Esta garantia tam bern nao se a plica a danos causados par tentativas indevidas de

outras pecas au dispositivos que nao estejam em conformidade com a especificacao
SIGMA. Esta garantia fica sem efeito se forem feitas altera<;:oes ao produto sem a
aprovacao expressa e par escrito da SIGMA.
• Nenhuma reivindica<;:iio sob esta garantia pode ser feita se a descricao do modele e
/au o numero de serie tenha sido removido, alterado au ilegivel.
Esta garantia nao e transferivel. Esta garantia s6 se aplica ao produto Sigma para o
qual foi emitido este cartao de garantia. A SIGMA so e responsavel par danos com base
em fortes regulamentos legals, em especial , de acordo com os termos da legislacao
vigente, mas niio limitada a mesma, mas so e responsavel pela reparacao desses
produtos SIGMA. Nao estao cobertas par esta garantia quaisquer despesas, custos au
danos em : perdas de filmes destrufdos, custos de reciclagem, perdas de dados, pilhas.
despesas de viagens, perda de rendimentos, taxas au outras perdas decorrentes de
qualquer de defeito de material. E da responsabilidade do utilizador fazer uma copia
dos dados, uma vez que podem ser perdidos durante a repara<;:ao. Todas as
configuracoes feitas pelo cliente podem ser perdidas devido a reparacao.
Todas as outras garantias, nomeadamente garantias voluntaries, que tenham sido

SIGMA, mas sim das entidades que emitiram essas mesmas garantias.
Na medida em que o comprador adquiriu o produto SIGMA como consumidor, esta
garantia de fabricante, nao retira ao consumidor qualquer direito de acordo com a
legisla<;:ao sabre garantias, do seu pais, que e da responsabilidade da entidade
vendedora.

contra extravios au roubos. A SIGMA, e as seus servi<;:os tecnicos autorizados so
aceitam produtos enviados com partes pagos que cubram tambem o retorno do prod uta.
Se desejar enviar o prod uta sem pagar custos de transports, deve envia-lo diretamente
a entidade com quem estabeleceu o contrato de compra, au seja a entidade que
vendeu o produto.
Se a SIGMA chegar a conclusao que o equipamento devolvido para repara<;:ao, nao
esta par qualquer razao abrangido pela garantia aqui estipulada, o clients sera
informado das razoes e sera informado dos custos da repara<;:ao. Neste caso o cliente
tern urn prazo de 2 semanas para aceitar au nao o or<;:amento. Apos este prazo o
equipamento sera devolvido sem reparacao.
