Safety Flash Spring 2015 Outage Publication for Upgrading and Energy & Utilities ISSUE 81 June 18, 2015 Night Shift | June 19, 2015 Day Shift TODAY’S TOOLBOX Summarize today’s toolbox topics during toolbox talks. Reading line-by-line is not necessary. E&U ALARM REMINDER: Every Thursday at 9:00 p.m., the E&U evacuation alarm is tested. Personnel are not required to evacuate the area. REPORT ALL INJURIES IMMEDIATELY: It is critical that you report all injuries immediately—even if it’s a personal health matter. All injuries require medical attention and must be seen to as soon as possible. Early intervention and proper treatment can help reduce your chances of the injury becoming more serious. KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE FROM WATER TRUCKS: Recently, pedestrians have been noticed walking very closely to water trucks. When you walk too close to the trucks, you could potentially get sprayed with the water. Remember, the water trucks are here to benefit all workers on site by controlling dust levels so give them their space to perform their work safely and efficiently. PERSONAL GAS DETECTION MONITORS: In Upgrading, workers must wear a H2S detection monitor and in Energy and Utilities workers must wear a S02 detection monitor. When a gas detector alarms, evacuate immediately and report it to your supervision as soon as possible so they can notify Operations to investigate the source. Remember to regularly test your personal gas detection monitor to ensure it is functioning properly. Review the manufacturer’s user manual which explains the dangers associated with using the device in potentially explosive environments. Remember that hand held cell phones &/or hands free devices are not permitted to be used while operating any Suncor owned vehicle on or off site. Cell phones are strictly prohibited in and around all Upgrading Operating areas. Review RGP0007A – HOT WORK PROCEDURE. 20% P.O.P Do you have questions, comments or suggestions for SAFETY FLASH?
