Selecting Test Preferences 103 4/ In the right hand section of the window find the “Lock pages in memory” policy. Then select “Action / Security” from the menu to display the “Local security Policy Setting” window. (In Windows XP, the menu option is now called “Properties” instead of “Security”). 5/ Use the add button to assign the right to the administrator. The “Local Policy Setting” check box should now be checked. Click on OK to close the window. (In Windows XP, this is slightly more complex and you will probably need the “Advanced” button to search for users to add). 6/ You now need to log off and log back on (or reboot your machine) for this new setting to take effect. If you check back in the “Local Security Policy” utility after you login you should now see that the Administrator has “Effective rights” to lock pages in memory. Note1: This function is not available in all operating systems. For example, it is available in XP Professional, but not XP home. Note2: Windows XP security can be a complex thing. If you have a problem after following this procedure and rebooting, set the “Lock pages in memory” right to “Everyone” and try again. 8.16 Serial ports The Serial port test is only included in the BurnInTest Pro version only. COM Ports selected >> Remove selected ports To remove one or more a serial ports, select the COM port(s) from the left hand list then click on the remove button. << Add new port to list To select a serial port for testing, select the COM port number from the right hand drop down list, select the test type, then click on the add button. Up to 64 ports can be selected for simultaneous testing. COM1..n (Serial port drop down list) The communications ports that will be used by the serial port test, e.g. COM1. Detect and loopback test / Detect test only For each serial port it is possible to select either a “Detect and loopback test” or a “Detect only” test. The, Detect and loopback test, requires the use of serial port loopback plugs. The Detect only test does not require a loopback plug. When possible use the loopback test as it is a more though test. COM port test settings Disable RTS/ CTS and DSR / DTR test phase The checkbox will disable the part of the serial port that checks that the signal pins are functioning correction.
