EASY PUNCH AND DIE MAINTENANCE
Mate MPG™ Precision Grinders regrind punches and dies to maintain optimum
condition for the highest quality punch press fabrication. Mate MPG Precision Grinders
are available in two versions:
• Manual Height Adjustment of zero position relative to the work piece.
• Laser Height Sensor to automatically detect zero position relative to the work piece.
Simple Operation
• Multiple user-specified grinding programs for grinding
consistency.
• Ergonomically designed keypad for simple programming.
• Long-lasting CBN grinding wheel for optimal grinding
performance.
• Ideal for unsupervised operation.
• Control panel has touch pad and easy to read LCD screen.
Flexibility
• Fine grind depth and removal rate settings provide
maximum flexibility, reliability, and consistency.
• Angular table adjustment from 0° to 12° allows shear to be
ground on punches to reduce punching force.
Convenience
• Six drawers for convenient storage of items such as tools
awaiting regrind and measuring instruments.
• Compact overall size and minimal floor space required
allows grinder to be placed near punch press.
Safety
• Fully enclosed work area to ensure safety. Safety door
interlock prevents grinder operation with door open.
• Abrasive mist contained during grinding process. Keeps
work area clean, eliminates slip hazards, and keeps
abrasive material away from precision keyways and slides
of punch press.
Multiple Programs
• Up to five programs can be stored to ensure consistency.
Settings include: Total cut depth (a combination of rough
cut and fine cut depth settings), removal rate for rough and
fine cuts.
Automatic Coolant Control
• Coolant is automatically delivered to the grinding wheel via
a hollow spindle to assure optimum grinding conditions.
• The coolant tank slides out for easy maintenance.

EASY OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Tool Installation:
Mount the tool into the Mate MPG Universal
Grinding Fixture. The grinding fixture locates
the tool precisely and provides rigid support
for the tool during grinding.
The MPG Precision
Grinder accommodates
a full range of punch
press tool styles
including:
• Thick turret
• Thin turret
• Trumpf style
• Murata Wiedemann
• Multi tool systems
• and many more.
The MPG Precision
Grinder includes a
graduated angle plate
that allows shear to be
ground onto punches
easily. Simply tilt the
plate and use the
graduated cam to select
the appropriate angle.
Programming:
Select one of five programs using the simple control
panel. The programs are easy to enter and include:
• Rough-cut feed depth and feed speed.
• Fine-cut feed depth and feed speed.
• Spark-out time at the end of the cycle.
Precise control of the feeds and speeds ensure
optimum grinding conditions are achieved to suit a
wide range of applications, from the narrowest
punch to the largest die.
Automatic Tool Height Sensor (Shown):
The MPG Precision Grinder is available with a laser
height sensor, which detects the position of the top
of the tool to be reground. This simple and reliable
function is part of the automatic program and
operation of the grinder.
Manual Tool Height Sensor (Not Shown):
The MPG Precision Grinder is also available in a
manual height sensor model, which detects the
position of the top of the tool to be reground.

Automatic Operation:
The fully enclosed cabinet design and
automatic coolant system makes the MPG
Precision Grinder ideal for unsupervised
operation. Once the tool is mounted, and
the program is selected, a simple “Cycle
Start” button begins the program.
The laser detects the top position of the
tool to be reground. Operation of the
motor and coolant system starts once the
top position of the tool has been sensed.
The automatic program ensures optimum
grinding conditions are maintained.
Finishing:
The grinder stops and the grinding head retracts
automatically at the end of the selected program.
The indicator light on the top of the grinder
indicates the completion of the program. The
manual coolant hose allows the part to be rinsed
prior to removal of the tool from the grinder.

MATE MPG™ PRECISION GRINDER – UNIVERSAL FIXTURE
The MPG™ Universal Grinding Fixture allows all
styles of punch press tooling to be held securely
during regrinding in the Mate Precision Grinder.

The warranty is provided on the basis that the machine
must be operated in the manner intended as described
in the Service Manual. No other operations are
permitted. Mate declines all liability and warranty
responsibility for the machine if the user modifies or
converts the machine for a non-intended use. The
warranty is void if the machine is misused, neglected,
involved in an accident, improperly installed, improperly
wired, or otherwise damaged.
HEIGHT
Limited Machine Warranty
All Mate MPG™ Precision Grinders are covered by a
12-month limited warranty period commencing from
the date of the machine set up confirmation. It is
limited to replacement of defective materials or parts.
Items that are subject to normal wear during normal
use are not covered by the warranty. These exclusions
include wear to paint, windows, seals, wheel, cables,
or hoses. No other claims will be recognized.
