Your Halti Tactile Lead is made from strong, soft polyester
fibre, which unlike nylon will not “burn” your hands. Even
when wet or in cold weather, the tactile material should still
be comfortable and warm to hold. Here are some other
applications of the Halti Lead and I have no doubt that you will
find more, like turning it into an impromptu snare to catch a
stray dog.
As a conventional lead, note that it can be adjusted between 1
and 2 metres, by attaching the trigger hook B to rings C, D or
E (see figure 2). In the C and E position, you can securely grip
the double lead as a handle.
The Halti Training Lead also makes an excellent tether, at any
length you choose. However, bear in mind that your dog will
need to be trained to tolerate being tethered, or he might chew
through the lead and escape. Many dogs hate to be tied up
alone and become distressed, alternatively aggressive and
protective towards strangers who approach. So do be cautious
where you tether a dog and keep him in view at all times.
If you have two dogs, the double-ended Halti Training Lead can
serve for both. However, some dogs become competitive and
“pully” when yoked together. Walk them separately.
If you have a particularly powerful dog, I recommend you fix
one end of the lead around your waist as shown in figure 3.
This hands-free arrangement allows you to concentrate upon
training heelwork in safety.
