5 Before initial operation Make sure that all packaging material has been removed from the appliance (protective film etc.). Check that all parts are there (see chapter 3 “Description of appliance and scope of delivery”). Leave the specification plate and any warning notices on the appliance. CAUTION: Make sure that the appliance is not damaged. If parts are damaged, do not operate the appliance. Instead, contact qualified service personnel. 1. Wipe the appliance with a damp cloth and then dry it with a kitchen towel. 2. Before using the coffee pot (7) for the first time, clean it with warm water and washing-up liquid. Alternatively, clean it in the dishwasher. 3. Insert the active carbon filter as described in chapter 7.2 “Changing the active carbon filter”. 4. Insert the mains plug in a power socket. 5. Fill the water tank (13) up to the fill level display 10 with fresh water. 6. Switch on the coffee maker as described in chapter 6.6; let the water run through without coffee powder and then pour it away. 7. Clean the coffee pot (7) with warm water (see also chapter 7.1 “Cleaning”). NOTE: When you use the appliance for the first time, there might be some slight fumes. 6 Use Hints and tips: If the unit is in operation, the coffee pot (7) must always be on the heating plate (8). The drip guard (9) is pushed up by the coffee pot lid and the coffee can flow from the filter into the pot. The preset time, the number of cups, and the strength of the coffee will be stored until either a new time, number of cups or strength of coffee has been entered or the mains plug is disconnected longer than a minute from the socket. If the unit is without power for longer than a minute, the settings are reset to the standard values. Although the heating plate (8), on which the coffee pot is set, will keep the coffee warm for some time, we recommend filling the brewed coffee into a thermos flask and turning off the unit with the “On/Off” button (19). The drip guard (9) prevents water from leaking out of the filter when the pot (7) is taken out of the unit. During the brewing process the pot (7) must not be taken out of the unit for longer than 30 seconds, however, otherwise the filter will be full and the coffee will overflow.
