Note that the tang can be replaced into the button mechanism either way up, but the lock will only operate with it in one orientation. If unsure, it is easiest to try “locking” the loose tang on to the door to make sure it is the correct way up, before replacing it into the frame (fig. 4.2.3). Figure 4.2.3: PPS “Crash-Out” removable tang. Confirm everything is in place by trying to pull out the tang by hand – it should be held firmly by the button mechanism. 4.2.7. External Doors Before the Hall can be searched, the outside doors must be locked to prevent unauthorised entry. “Hall Closed” signs should also be posted at the doors (and taken down after the Hall is re-opened).
