This document provides a description on how to setup your laptop to connect
to Belfast Metropolitan College’s wireless network “BMC-WN-BASIC”.
To connect to BMC-WN-BASIC you will need a laptop which meets the
wireless requirements. Go to http://www.BelfastMet.ac.uk/Wireless for details.
Connecting to BMC-WN-BASIC
Mac OS X
On the top right hand corner of the top toolbar, there is a series of icons as
shown below.
The icon for the Airport wireless connection is shown below. Ensure this is
turned on by clicking on the following icon.
The following menu will appear. Click on ‘Turn Airport On’. This will enable the
Airport connection.
The wireless icon will change to the following icon.
Click on this icon and the following menu will appear.
Click on ‘Open Internet Connect’. This will open the Airport dialogue box as
shown below.
The Airport wireless connection will automatically detect the BMC-WN-BASIC
network and will connect automatically.
The Laptop will now connect to BMC-WN-BASIC.
Next open up your Internet browser, Internet explorer or Safari. It will bring up
the following window.
Click ‘Continue’.
The web browser will then display the wireless logon page as shown below.
Once you have reviewed the Acceptable Usage Policy, scroll down to the
following area of the webpage.
Follow the instructions on the web page and type in your username and
password as shown below:
Click submit to proceed, you will then be directed to the wireless information
website and will be connected to the Internet.
