Power Supply Units
The standard power setup for the SC840 consists of two separate 300
watt power supply units and one empty power bay. Both units provide a
continuous 300 watts of power to the system. Addtional power will automatically engage if more power is needed (up to 600W total). Due to the
hot-plug redundency, if one powe unit fails, the other unit(s) takes over the
load without powering down the system. A third power supply may be
added to the empty bay, in which case the system will be provided with 600
watts of power and still have a 300 watt backup. The power supply units
have an auto-switching that can automatically sense and operate at any
voltage within the range of 110 to 220 volts input.
Power Supply Failure
If any one of the active power units fails or the system requires more than
300W power, the backup unit will automatically power up and enable the
system to continue operating without interruption. An audible alarm will
notify you of a power unit failure, which you can disable by pressing the
alarm button on the control panel. The PWR Fail LED will also illuminate and
remain on until the failed unit has been replaced.
Replacing Power Units
1.
Identify the failed power unit
The power unit with the illuminated red LED indicates it has failed and
should be replaced as soon as possible. Or, if the LED is neither red or
green, check to make sure all power cables are all fully plugged into the
back of the chassis. If they are, the power unit is probably bad.
2.
Remove the (hot-plug) power unit (See Figure 6-7)
You do not need to power down the system to replace a failed power
unit. To remove the failed power unit, push the locking tab on the failed
unit up, then grasp the handle and pull the unit completely out. You don't
need to unplug the power cable from the back of the chassis.
3.
Install a new (hot-plug) power unit
Replace the failed unit with another unit of the same wattage. It is highly
recommended that both power units are exactly the same. Gently but
firmly push the new unit all the way into the open bay. Secure it by
pushing the locking tab downward. The green LED on the power supply
unit should illuminate to show that it has power and is operational.
