column adapter for additional disc
These low level column kits are of intermediate length between the standard center
columns supplied with tripods and the very short columns previously supplied as
separate accessories. Their lengths are defined to achieve the lowest shooting
angle with legs not extended but opened to the widest angle. Column kits are in
Carbon 6X tube and also incorporate the components for the Gitzo Ground Level
Set: machined aluminum Safe Lock upper disc, new reversible screw and new
retractable hook. This is the most convenient way to update previous carbon fiber,
basalt and aluminum Gitzo tripods with the Ground Level Set feature.
These adapters let you fit a head or accessory (bracket, lateral arm etc.) to the
bottom of the center column without reversing it and thus without removing the top
head and equipment. Adapters come with the new solid aluminum Safe Lock disk in
different diameters and the new 1/4” – 3/8” reversible screw.

apex in positions which might otherwise
be obstructed by the tripod legs. Both
Rapid (Sliding) and Geared versions
are available. For optimum rigidity,

Gitzo 6X is a high density tube made of top quality ultra
thin (7µm) carbon fibers (a 28 mm tube contains 1.500.000
carbon fibers) in a unique structure of 6 crossed layers that
minimizes weight yet maximizes rigidity, vibration absorption
and performance. In order to optimize the weight to strength
ratio, we vary the wall thickness of 6X tube according to
tripod series: tubes for series 00, 0 and 1 are 1mm thick,
tubes for series 2 are 1.2mm thick, series 3 tubes measure
1.3mm, series 4 1.4mm and series 5 1.5mm. All 6X tubes
feature built-in our Anti Leg Rotation system (ALR).
basalt - a revolutionary composite
Basalt fibers are made of basalt rock which is crushed
and melted (at 1500°C or 2735°F). The fibers are then
transformed into a tube with the same technology used for
carbon fiber. Basalt tubes are engineered to match Gitzo
performance standards and maintain most of the features of
6X carbon fiber: high thermal and dimensional stability, light
weight (20% less than aluminium). Basalt tube uses a 1.2mm
thick, 3 crossed layer structure with built-in Anti Leg Rotation
(ALR). Basalt offers an intermediate performance level
between traditional aluminum and 6X tubes.

mechanism has been completely redesigned in order
to achieve a 20% increase in rigidity, faster operation
and stronger, safer locking. G-Lock’s special design
also provides a “gravity lock” effect: the higher the load
applied vertically to the leg, the stronger the lock.

finish that improves leg locking performance and minimizes
light reflection.
For the cast components, Gitzo uses top quality aluminum
alloys and gravity casting - more expensive than pressure
casting, but able to guarantee that components are free
from internal air bubbles that could compromise solidity and
durability.

one of the lowest-friction materials known to science, with

is usually applied to ball heads, where the ball sits on PTFE
