OVENCONTROL,CLOCKANDTIMER ToSet the Clock :lock The clockmustbe set for the automaticoventiming functionsto workproperly,The timeof day cannotbe changedduringa TimedBakeor Self-Cleancycle. 1. Press the CLOCKpad. CLOCK c1 A A Timer The timer is a minutetimer; it does not controloven operations. The maximumsettingon the timer is 9 hoursand 55 minutes. ! 2. Press the INCREASEor DECREASE pad to set the time of day. @ ToSet the Timer 1. Press the TIMER ;~vlAE~ ON/OPFpad. c1 A 2. End of CycleTone DisplayMessages The end of cycletoneis a seriesof threebeeps followedby one beepevery six seconds.If you would like to removethe signalthat beepsevery six seconds, press and hold the CLEAWOFFpad for 10seconds. Toreturnthe signalthatbeepsevery six seconds, press and holdthe CLEAWOFFpad for 10 seconds. If “door” appears in the display,LOCKflashes and the ovencontrolsignals,you set the self-clean cycleand did not shutthe door. ● If “door” ordy appears in the display,the oven dooris open and needsto be closed. . If ‘6LOCK9’ only appearsin the display,the oven door is in the lockedposition.BAKE, BROILand COOKTIMEcannotbe setif the dooris in thelockedposition. ● Power Outage Aftera poweroutage,whenpoweris restored,the displaywill flash and time shownwill no longerbe correct-for example,after a 5-minutepower interruptionthe clockwill be 5 minutesslow, The displayflashesuntilthe clockis reset, All other functionsthat were in operationwhenthe powerwent out will haveto be programmedagain. 7 USINGYOUROVEN BeforeUsing#h@ ~VP~ 1. The lightcomeson whenthpovend~r is opened or whenthe con~olpanelswi@~is turnedon, NOTE: ● A fan may automaticallyturn on and off to cool internalparts.This is normal,and the fan may continueto run even after the oven is turnedoff. ● Youmay noticea “burning”or “oily”smellthe first few timesyou turn youroven on. This is normalin a new oven and will disappearin a shorttime.To speed the process,set a self-cleancyclefor a minimumof 3 hours.See the Operatingthe Self-CleaningOven section. 9ven Shelves The shelvesare designedwith stop-locksso when placedcorrectlyon the shelfsupports,they will stop beforecomingcompletelyout of the ovenand will not tilt whenyou areremovingfood fromthem or placingfoodon them. Whenplacingcookwareon a shelf,pull the shelfout to the bumpon the shelfsupport,Placethe cookware on the shelf,then slidethe shelfback into the oven. This will eliminatereachinginto the hot oven. To remove a shelf from the oven,pull the shelf towardyou,tilt the frontend upwardand pull the shelfout. Toreplace,placethe shelfon the shelfsupportwith the stop-locks(curvedextensionof shelf)facingup and towardthe rear of the oven.Tiltup the front and pushthe shelftowardthe backof the ovenuntilit goespast the bumpon the shelfsupport,Then lower the front of the shelfand push it all the way back. Bump II I 1 , 1 . ShelfPositions The ovenhas four shelfsupportsidentifiedin this illustrationas A (bottom),B, C and D (top). Shelfpositionsfor cookingare suggestedin the Baking,Roastingand Broilingsections. AutomaticOven Shut Off OvenVent As a safetyfeature,the singleoven and the upper ovenof doubleovenmodelswill automaticallyshut itselfoff if it has been left on for morethan 12hours. On doubleovens,onlythe top ovenhas this feature. When the oven is on, heatedair movesthrougha vent abovethe door or betweendoor and air grille. The vent area couldget hot duringovenuse. The ventis neededfor properair flow in the oven and goodbakingresults.Do not blockthis vent. 9 BAKING Youroventemperatureis controlledvery accurately usingan ovencontrolsystem.It is recommendedthat you operatethe oven for a numberof weeksto becomefamiliarwith yournew oven’sperformance. If you thinkan adjustmentis necessary,see the Adjus~ the OvenThermostatsection.It giveseasyDo It Yourse~instructionson how to adjustthe thermostat. NOTE: Whenthe ovengets hot, the top and outside surfacesof the ovenget hot too, Howto Set the Ovenfor Baking Ovens ControlledwithTouchPads Toavoidpossibleburns,placeshelvesin the correct positionbeforeyou turn the ovenon. 1. Press the BAKEpad. 2. Press the INCREASEor DECREASEpad untilthe desiredtemperatureis displayed. The word“ON’ and “100°”willbe displayed.As the ovenheatsup, the displaywill showthe changing temperature.Whenthe ovenreachesthe temperature you set, a tonewill sound. 3. Press the CLEAR/OFFpad whenbakingis finished and thenremovethe food from the oven. NOTE: A fan may automaticallyturn on and off to cool internalparts.This is normal,and the fan may continueto run after the oven is turnedoff. To change the oven temperature during BAKE cycle,presstheBAKEpadandthentheINCREASE or DECREASEpad to get the new temperature. OvensControlledwith Knobs(on somemodels) OVEN TEMP OVENSET To avoidpossibleburns,placeshelvesin the correct positionbeforeyou turn the ovenon. The LOWEROVENCONTROLknobsare located on the left sideof the controlpanel. The lowerovencan be used whilethe upperoven is on. The lowerovenhas a standardporcelainfinish. See the Care and Cleaningsectionof this guide. TO BAKE OR ROAST 1. Turnthe OVENSET knobto BAKE. 2. Turnthe OVENTEMPknobto desiredtemperature. 3. Whenfinished,turn the OVENSETknob to OFF. TO BROIL: 1. Turnboth the OVENSET and OVENTEMPknob to BROIL. 2. When finished,turn the OVENSETknobto OFF, Oven Shelves Arrangethe oven shelfor shelvesin the desiredlocations whilethe ovenis cool.Thecorrect shelfposition dependson the kind of foodand the browningdesired. \> w As a generalrule, placemostfoodsin the middleof the oven,on either shelfpositionsB or C. Preheatmeans bringingthe ovenup to the specifiedtemperature beforeputtingthefoodin theoven.Topreheat,set the ovenat thecorrecttemperature—selecting a higher temperaturedoesnot shortenpreheattime. Preheatingis necessaryfor goodresultswhenbaking cakes,cookies,pastryand breads.For most casseroles androasts,preheatingis notnecessary.Forovenswithout a preheatindicatorlightor tone,preheat 10minutes. Afterthe oven is preheated,placethe food in the oven as quicklyas possibleto preventheatfrom escaping. I BakingPans Pan Placement Use the properbakingpan.Thetypeof finishon the pan determinesthe amountof browningthatwilloccur, c Dark,roughor dull pansabsorbheatresultingin a browner,crispercrust.Use this typefor pies. ● Shiny,brightand smoothpansreflectheat,resulting in a lighter,moredelicatebrowning.Cakesand cookiesrequirethis typeof pan. ● Glassbakingdishesabsorbheat.Whenbaking in glassbakingdishes,the temperaturemay need to be reducedby 25°F. For even cookingand properbrowning,theremustbe enoughroomfor air circulationin the oven.Baking resultswill be betterif bakingpans are centeredas muchas possibleratherthan beingplacedto the front or to the backof the oven. Pans shouldnot toucheach otheror the wallsof the oven.Allow 1-to 1k-inch spacebetweenpansas well as from the back of the oven,the doorand the sides. If you needto use two shelves,staggerthe pans so one is not directlyabovethe other. ~ Baking Guides E *g’ Whenusingpreparedbakingmixes,followpackagerecipeor instructions for the best bakingresults. I Cookies Whenbakingcookies,flat cookiesheets(without sides)producebetter-lookingcookies.Cookiesbaked in a jelly roll pan (shortsidesall around)may have darkeredgesand pale or lightbrowningmay occur. Do not use a cookiesheetso largethat it touchesthe wallsor the doorof the oven,Neverentirelycover a shelfwith a largecookiesheet. For bestresults,use onlyone cookiesheetin the oven at a time. I Pies Cakes For best results,bakepies in dark,roughor dullpans to producea browner,crispercrust.Frozenpies in foil pans shouldbe placedon an aluminumcookiesheet for bakingsincethe shinyfoil pan reflectsheat away from the pie crust;the cookiesheethelpsretainit. Whenbakingcakes,warpedor bentpanswill cause unevenbakingresultsand poorlyshapedproducts.A cakebakedin a pan largerthanthe reciperecommends will usuallybe crisper,thinnerand drierthan it should be. If bakedin a pan smallerthanrecommended,it may be undercookedand battermay overflow.Checkthe recipeto makesurethe pan sizeused is the one recommended. (continued next page) 11 BA~G (continued) AluminumFoil Don’tPeek Neverentirelycover a shelfwithaluminum foil.This will disturb the heat circulation and resultin poor baking.A smaller sheetof foil may be used to catcha spilloverby placing it on a lowershelf severalinchesbelow the food. Set the timerfor the estimatedcookingtime and do not open the door to look at yourfood.Mostrecipes provideminimumand maximumbakingtimes such as “bake30-40minutes.” DO NOTopen the door to checkuntilthe minimum time.Openingthe ovendoorfrequentlyduring cookingallowsheat to escapeand makesbaking timeslonger.Yourbakingresultsmay alsobe affected.
