Do not over-tighten. • Locate the battery compartment on the underside of the engine. • Loosen the screw in the battery compartment door with a Phillips screwdriver and open the door. • Insert four “AA” (LR6) alkaline batteries, as indicated in the battery compartment. • Replace the battery compartment door and tighten the screw with a Phillips screwdriver. Do not over-tighten. Battery Tips • Do not mix old and new batteries. • Do not mix different types of batteries: alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable (nickel-cadmium). • Remove the batteries during long periods of non-use. Always remove exhausted batteries from the toy. Battery leakage and corrosion can damage this toy. Dispose of batteries safely. • Do not dispose of batteries in a fire. The batteries may explode or leak. • Never short circuit the battery terminals. • Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged. • Only batteries of the same or equivalent type as recommended in the “Battery Installation” instructions are to be used. • If removable rechargeable batteries are used, they are only to be charged under adult supervision. • Rechargeable batteries are to be removed from the toy before they are charged. • If you use a battery charger, it should be examined regularly for damage to the cord, plug, enclosure and other parts. Simply match the symbols for easy track assembly! - For best performance, we suggest assembling the track on a hard, flat surface away from direct sunlight. • Locate the symbols on the ends of each track piece. • After matching the symbols, place the track pieces on a hard, flat surface. • Cover the tongue on one track piece with the matching track piece. Push down on the top track piece to snap the tabs on the tongue into the slots in the top track piece. • Repeat this procedure to assemble the other eight track pieces. Hint: Assembling the track is not a one-time assembly. The track has been designed for easy disassembly for storage (see Storage and Care section). 4 74878b-0920.qrk 6/19/01 10:48 AM Page 5 Accessory Assembly Hint: Apply the labels as shown in the following illustrations. For best results, wash your hands before applying the labels and make sure the areas to which the labels will be applied are clean and dry. Avoid repositioning a label once it has been applied. Barn 3 1 Railroad Crossing Plug Fence Hooked Tab Posts Slot Holes Slot • Apply the labels to the railroad crossing, as indicated in the illustration. • Fit the railroad crossing plug into the slot in the track. 2 Station 4 Tunnel Top, Hooked Tabs, Slots, Tunnel Tunnel Top Hooked Tab Slot • Apply the label to the barn, as indicated in the illustration. • Insert and “snap” the hooked tab on the barn into the slot in the track. • Fit the posts on the fence into the holes in the track. Hooked Tab Hooked Tabs Slot Slots • Apply the labels to the station, as indicated in the illustration. • Insert and “snap” the hooked tabs on the station into the slots in the track. • Apply the label to the tunnel, as indicated in the illustration. • Insert and “snap” the four hooked tabs on the tunnel top into the four slots in the tunnel track. Pull up on the tunnel top to be sure it is secure. For best performance, always point the microphone toward the engine. Make sure the microphone is no more than eight feet from the engine. Caboose Loader Car Engine Power Switch • Hook the loader car to the engine. • Hook the caboose to the loader car. • Slide the power switch on the engine to the “on” position. 6 74878b-0920.qrk 6/19/01 10:48 AM Page 7 All Aboard! Button t t oo t too t Smoke Stack Bar Microphone • Place the train cars on the track. Hint: You can also place the train cars off the track, on another hard, flat surface for more “off-road” fun! • Press the smoke stack for ready mode. Toots the Train™ is waiting for your command! • While pressing the bar on the microphone, tell Toots the Train™ to go. You say, “Go!” Hint: If you do not tell the train to go, Toots the Train™ will remind you three times! • Toots the Train™ will go around the track approximately three times and then stop. • You can either: - Press the bar on the microphone and say, “Go!” - Or, press a destination on the microphone base. Then, press the bar on the microphone and say, “Go!” Hint: If you do not tell the train to go after the last reminder, Toots the Train™ will automatically shut off after 30 seconds. To put Toots the Train™ back to ready mode, simply press the smoke stack again. • To stop the train at any time, simply press the bar on the microphone and tell Toots the Train™ to stop. You say, “Stop!” • To shut power completely off, slide the power switch on the engine to the ”off ” position. • For off-road fun, take Toots the Train™ off the track and place onto a hard, flat surface. Hint: For best performance, do not use outdoors. • Press the bar on the microphone and tell Toots the Train™ to go. You say, “Go!” Hint: Toots the Train™ only moves straight ahead. You say, “Go!” Yahoo - Lots to do at the Farm • Press the Tunnel destination button on the microphone base. • While pressing the bar on the microphone, tell Toots the Train™ to go. You say, “Go!” • Place the coal boulder on top of the tunnel. Press the detonator to blast the boulder into the loader car. Wipe this toy with a clean cloth dampened with a mild soap and water solution. Do not immerse this toy. • Pull the edges of the track out near the slots/tabs. Storage: Tips: Power Switch • Fit the microphone into the Station track. • For long-term storage, slide the power switch on the engine to the “off ” postion. o o o m o o o m o o oo o o • m o o mo • If the train continues to run and does not respond to any commands, slide the power switch on the engine to the “off” position and then back to the “on” position. This will reset the electronic function of the train. If this problem continues, replace the batteries in both the microphone and the engine. • This toy has no consumer serviceable parts.
