Always use the words videotape or tape. There’s a big difference between shooting a music video with videotape and video cameras, and motion picture film and film cameras: (A) Videotape has magnetic properties. Recording (with a video camera and VCR), playback, and editing takes place electronically. (B) Motion picture film has to be: Exposed during the shoot, using a motion picture film camera; Chemically developed, which creates the negative; Transferred to videotape for editing. Virtually all major record label music videos are shot with 16mm or 35mm motion picture film. The common practice is to shoot with film, have it developed, then transferred to videotape for the convenience of videotape editing.
