Adjusting damping for rear wheel 4 Make sure the ground is level and firm and place the motorcycle on its stand. Operation 52 z Stow on-board toolkit 1. Install the seat ( 55). Damping Setting Damping must be adapted to suit the surface on which the motorcycle is ridden and to suit spring preload. An uneven surface requires softer damping than a smooth surface. An increase in spring preload requires firmer damping, a reduction in spring preload requires softer damping. You adjust the damping characteristic by turning adjusting screw 1. If you want a harder damping characteristic, use a screwdriver to turn adjusting screw 1 in the direction indicated by the H arrow. If you want a softer damping characteristic, use a screwdriver to turn adjusting screw 1 in the direction indicated by the S arrow.
