Guide for Bluetooth® Connectivity www.bernafon.com Purpose The purpose of this guide is to show you how to set-up and demonstrate the most important wireless Bluetooth® applications in conjunction with Bernafon hearing instruments and the SoundGate device. Equipment needed This is a checklist to ensure that you have all the needed components to make a complete demon stration. We recommend that you check this list at least one day before your demonstration. Remember that you may need to recharge the SoundGate for reliable and successful demonstration. •A pair of Bernafon hearing instruments that offer a wireless connection to the SoundGate: Examples of Vérité or Veras series •One SoundGate The following parts delivered in the original SoundGate packaging: –Wall outlet charging unit or USB charging cable –Neck strap •Your Bluetooth® enabled mobile phone Y ou may check the Bluetooth® connectivity of the mobile phone at http://www.bernafon.com/eprise/main/com_en/ Consumers/Products/PairingGuide 2 BERNAFON •One TV adapter The following parts delivered in the original TV adapter packaging: –Power adapter –Audio TV cable (with SCART, RCA or 3.5 mm jack connector on TV side) –Portable television or other audio source, e.g. laptop •One Phone adapter The following parts delivered in the original Phone adapter packaging: –Power adapter –Standard analog phone cable –In addition you need to prepare an analog landline phone, and ensure that it has a reliable connection to the telephone network. 3 Preparation of the hearing instruments and SoundGate 1. Verify that you have new batteries for the hearing instruments. 2.Make sure that the SoundGate is fully charged. If not, recharge the day before your demonstration. You may use the wall outlet charging unit, or you may charge from a computer or laptop with the USB charging cable. 3.The hearing instruments have to be paired with the SoundGate device. Please connect the instru ments to the Oasis fitting software, choose Options, select Controls and follow the instructions after starting the pairing process. Tips for successful pairing – Make sure device has a fully charged battery. – Hold the device at least 50 cm (2 feet) away from the instruments. – W hen the screen instructions appear, wait 2 – 4 seconds before pushing the button each time. – Don’t forget to press “OK” to save. 4 BERNAFON Mobile phone Setting up the mobile phone and SoundGate Preparation of the mobile phone Feel free to use the detailed instructions in the following web based guide: http://www.bernafon.com/eprise/main/com_en/Consumers/Products/ PairingGuide Here is an example of a Nokia mobile phone: 1. Press the “Menu” key. 2.Scroll to “Settings” and press “Select”. 3.Scroll down to “Connectivity” and press “Select”. 4.Select “Bluetooth”. 5.Select ”On”. Preparation of the SoundGate – Put the SoundGate into the Bluetooth® pairing mode 6.Make sure that the key lock on the top of the SoundGate is off (green mark visible). 7.Press and hold the Bluetooth® key for about 6 seconds until it flashes rapidly. 8.The SoundGate is now in pairing mode for a maximum of 2 minutes. Bluetooth® pairing of the mobile phone and the SoundGate: 9.Go back to the mobile phone. Scroll down to ”Search for audio/Bluetooth” and press “Select”. The phone will start searching for Bluetooth® enabled devices. 10.In the list of available devices, highlight ”SoundGate” and press “Select”. 11. Enter the Passcode: 0000 (four zeroes), and press “OK”. The phone will now complete the pairing and connect the two devices. 12. To return to the main menu, press the red “End call” key or press Exit/Back a few times. 5 Demonstration of the mobile phone Ensure that the hearing instruments are on. The SoundGate should be worn around the neck. The key lock should be off (green position). Answering a call 1. Call the mobile phone number from any other telephone. 2.The phone key on the SoundGate will flash green. Push the phone key on the SoundGate when a ringing tone is heard in the hearing instruments. 3.The phone conversation can then begin. 4.To end this call, press the phone key on the SoundGate. The phone key will no longer be green. 5.End the call on the mobile phone. Making a call 1. Press the phone key on the SoundGate. The phone key will now be green. 2.Dial a phone number. 3.The usual ringing tone will be heard in the hearing instruments. As soon as the other party answers the call the conversation can begin. 4.To end this call, press the phone key on the SoundGate. The phone key will no longer be green. 5.End the call on the mobile phone. 6 BERNAFON TV adapter Setting up the TV adapter 1. 1. Connect the TV adapter to a power outlet. 2.Connect the audio cable to the TV and to the TV adapter. 3.For Bluetooth® pairing place the SoundGate next to the TV adapter (less than 30 cm/1 ft). 4.Press the SoundGate Bluetooth® key for 5 seconds until the blue light starts flashing rapidly. 2. 5.The pairing is completed when the blue light stops flashing rapidly. At the same time the audio key on the SoundGate and the STATUS indicator on the TV adapter will turn orange. 5. 4. 3. 30 cm / 1ft. 7 Demonstration of the TV adapter 1. Ensure that the hearing instruments are on. The SoundGate should be worn around the neck. The key lock should be off (green position). Turn on the TV (or the PC playing a movie with audio). 2.Press the audio key on the SoundGate. It will then light up orange. 3.The sound from the TV will be heard in the hearing instruments. Optional: 4.Call the mobile phone or landline phone to which the SoundGate has been previously paired. The phone key on the SoundGate will start flashing green, and the client will hear the ringing tone in the hearing instruments. 5.Press the phone key on the SoundGate when the ringing tone is heard. The phone key will turn solid green. The phone conversation can now begin. 6.End the telephone call by pressing the phone key on the SoundGate. After 2 seconds the audio key on the SoundGate will turn solid orange again and the sound will automatically switch back to the TV source. 8 BERNAFON Phone adapter Setting up the phone adapter 1. 1. Connect the phone adapter to a power outlet. 2.To connect the phone adapter to the landline telephone, unplug the phone cable from the landline phone station and connect it to the black socket on the phone adapter. 3.Connect the supplied phone cable to the yellow socket on the phone adapter. Plug the other end of the cable into the landline phone. 2. 4.For Bluetooth® pairing place the SoundGate next to the phone adapter (less than 30 cm/1 ft). 5.Press the SoundGate Bluetooth® key for 5 seconds until the blue light starts flashing rapidly. 6.Press the red button on the phone adapter for 5 seconds until the red status indicator is flashing. 3. 7. After 5–10 seconds the red status light on the phone adapter will become steady. The blue light on the SoundGate Bluetooth® key will light up for 5 seconds and then slowly fades on and off. 8.Verify the pairing by pressing the phone key on the SoundGate. The red indicator on the phone adapter should start flashing. 4. In case the pairing is not successful, restart at point 4. 30 cm / 1ft. 5. 7. 6. 8. 9 Demonstration of the phone adapter Ensure that the hearing instruments are on. The SoundGate should be worn around the neck. The key lock should be off (green position). Answering a call 1. Call the phone number of the landline phone to which the phone adapter is connected. 2.The phone key on the SoundGate will flash green. Push the phone key on the SoundGate when a ringing tone is heard in the hearing instruments. 3.The phone conversation can then begin. 4.To end this call, press the phone key on the SoundGate. The phone key will no longer be green. Making a call 1. Press the phone key on the SoundGate. The phone key will now be green. After 2 seconds the dial tone will be heard in the hearing instruments. 2.Lift the phone handset and dial the number. The key tones from the phone will be heard in the hearing instruments. 3.Replace the handset back on the base. 4.The ringing tone will be heard in the hearing instruments. As soon as the other party answers the call the conversation can begin. 5.To end this call, press the phone key on the SoundGate. When phone rings, press phone key on SoundGate to answer. When talking Talk into SoundGate microphone (optimal distance is 30 cm/ 12 inches). Hang up the phone Press SoundGate phone key again to end call. Make a call Place call from your mobile phone like normal. Talk into the SoundGate microphone – do not press the SoundGate phone key. Adjust volume Press the volume/program key up or down until the sound is comfortable. Turn hearing instrument microphones ON/OFF Press the volume/program key up or down for 2 seconds. SOUNDGATE Reconnection tip Paired Bluetooth devices find each other when turned on. If devices do not connect automatically, they must be connected manually. Always turn on your mobile phone before turning on the Bluetooth function in the SoundGate. QUICK GUIDE Out of range handling of Bluetooth If the SoundGate is moved out of Bluetooth range of the mobile phone, the connection will be lost. Moving the devices back into range should cause them to re-connect. Volume control and program change Phone SOUNDGATE Music connection e.g. MP3 Use for remote control Bluetooth music/audio INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE Adjust volume Adjust volume level up or down in the hearing instruments with a short press. Battery indicator Change program Press and hold up or down for 2 seconds to go forward or backward in the program cycle. This guide is only a brief reference. Operate Locked The TV sound is transmitted by the TV adapter to the SOUNDGATE SoundGate for TV listening USER GUIDE SoundGate via Bluetooth technology. Audio key Make sure that the TV adapter is correctly connected to the TV. Refer to the installation guide. • Short press: Start/stop TV listening Volume control • Short press: Volume up/down When the TV adapter is turned on all operations for TV listening are made from the SoundGate. TV listening is possible within a range of approx. 10 meters / 30 feet from the TV. PHONE ADAPTER Phone calls – Daily use UsER GUiDE The Phone adapter provides a wireless connection between your SoundGate and your home phone. It supports both incoming and outgoing phone calls. The SoundGate enables hands free operation. First of all make sure that the Phone adapter is correctly connected to both the phone land line and power. Please refer to the installation guide. The wireless phone application is possible within a range of approx. 10 meters (30 feet) from the Phone adapter.
