SILENTFX
CertainTeed’s SilentFX acoustic gypsum board consists of Green Glue viscoelastic, noise-reducing
polymer sandwiched between two Type X fire-resistant gypsum boards. The cost-effective solution
achieves a sound transmission class (STC) rating of 50 and higher, and also offers a high level of
mold and fire resistance. Designed for use on interior walls and ceilings, SilentFX can be used for
new construction and renovations over wood or steel framing.

ECOTOUCH WITH PUREFIBER
Owens Corning is taking its tried-and-true EcoTouch PINK fiberglass insulation line to a new level of
green with the introduction of PureFiber binder technology. Unlike traditional binders, which utilize a
formaldehyde-based formulation, PureFiber is made with natural materials, offering a formaldehydefree product — and at no additional cost. The product uses a minimum of 50 percent recycled
content (30 percent post-consumer) — the highest certified percentage in the fiberglass insulation
industry — and features good product recovery, stiffness, strength, and softness.
Editors’ Comments: Owen Corning is sinking millions into retrofitting its plants to produce
EcoTouch in an effort to reduce the environmental impact of its insulation, and it’s not charging
customers a penny more for the new product. Hats off to OC!

ECOSTUD
Made from 100-percent recycled resin, the EcoStud Track and Stud System from Superior Polymer is
designed specifically for framing interior, non-load-bearing walls or partitions that support gypsum
wallboard construction. The durable, lightweight members minimize thermal bridging, helping to
prevent rapid heat loss. EcoStuds are impervious to water and are designed for fast installation
using common tools — the studs can be cut and trimmed with a chop saw.

iLevel by Weyerhaeuser has introduced its Insulated Series of structural framing members designed
to help builders meet the latest energy-efficiency standards. The series includes headers, rim board,
and corners that incorporate a layer of foam insulation to provide higher R-values and reduced thermal
bridging than traditional framing methods. iLevel Insulated Series products are pre-assembled to
optimize materials and are available in standard sizes to fit 2x6 conventional framing dimensions.

AIR RENEW
CertainTeed’s AirRenew significantly reduces, for up to 75 years, harmful volatile organic compounds
(VOCs) that circulate indoors. AirRenew uses two technologies to actively improve indoor air
quality. First, AirRenew helps clean the air by capturing VOCs, specifically formaldehyde and
other aldehydes, and converting them into inert compounds that safely remain within the board.
Additionally, AirRenew features M2Tech technology, which is specially engineered to provide
enhanced protection against moisture and mold.

SHEETROCK ULTRALIGHT PANELS
The lightest ½-inch gypsum wallboard panel available (1.2 to 1.4 lbs./sf), Sheetrock UltraLight Panels
from USG are up to 30 percent lighter than traditional gypsum panels. The panels are for use in nonfire rated applications such as new residential and repair and remodel construction and can be used
on ceilings with 24-inch-on-center frame spacing when water-based texture is applied.

XP READY MIX JOINT COMPOUND WITH DUST-TECH

National Gypsum’s ProForm brand XP Ready Mix Joint Compound with Dust-Tech is an all-purpose,
low-dust joint treatment with enhanced mold resistance. The compound’s dust-control formulation
causes dust to fall straight to the floor, reducing airborne dust by more than 60 percent. In addition,
the product achieved the highest possible score for mold resistance on both the ASTM G 21 and
ASTM D 3273 tests and achieved Greenguard Children & Schools certification.
