Membrane-2000 Response-2000 Triax-2000 Shell-2000
2-6 Transverse Reinforcement
Transverse reinforcement, like longitudinal reinforcement, is defined similarly
between Shell-2000, Response-2000 and Membrane-2000. Note that Triax-2000 doesn’t
have any definition for transverse reinforcement as in a 3D block of concrete, the
transverse direction is actually the longitudinal Z direction.

Response-2000.
Stirrups are defined
by spacing, bar
type, material type
and geometry. The
geometry is defined
in terms of the top
and bottom ends of
the reinforcement
as well as the type
of bar. Response2000 allows
stirrups to be:
Closed Stirrups, Open Stirrups, Hoops, Single-Leg hooked bars or Single-Leg T-Headed
bars. Each kind of bar is assumed to be able to yield all the way to the end of the bar as
entered (i.e. no development length). This is reasonable if there is a t-head or a hook at
the end of the bar but means that a correction should be made for transverse bars that are
not properly anchored.
Membrane-2000 and Shell-2000 use a similar dialog box with the following
differences. The spacing term is replaced by a transverse percentage. The stirrup types
are limited to single-leg hooked bars and single leg t-headed bars. Note that the singleleg hooked bars are currently drawn on the screen as t-heads.
