Contrast
Remember the popular children's game that goes "one of these things is not like the other"? By placing
your subject in a composition where it stands out as different from everything else, you are giving it a
greater visual weight. You can use color, texture, or even shape to differentiate your focal point from the
rest of the photo.

Framing
Framing your subject is a wonderfully effective way of showcasing it as the focal point. You can use
whatever is handy to your location to create a frame. Figure 1-13 two convenient trees as frames. You
can use playground tunnels, doorways or arches, windows, or any other elements that create a visual
frame.
