We are very proud to provide this update on the presentation industry and its new products … and how they are being integrated into corporate & academic environments. For over 10 years Advanced has been one of Ontario’s leading AV integrators, offering a wide range of presentation products and complete installations. And boy, in 10 years, things have changed! • Projectors, once the most expensive part of a boardroom, are now four times more powerful, and easily one quarter of the cost. Want a good example? Check out the new Epson PL1715, profiled on page 8 of this newsletter. • New products (and whole new categories) are rapidly gaining prominence and will soon be part of your development strategy. LifeSize high-definition videoconferencing, Mediasite presentation recorders and interactive tools such as SMART Board interactive whiteboards are examples and are changing the way our customers do business. • And of course there are vast improvements in collaborative technology as streaming media, video and audio now share the IT infrastructure. This has changed the way many enterprises deploy presentation technology to deliver just in time decisions to the marketplace. So how does all of this impact your organization? Well you can accomplish more, more effectively and efficiently then ever before. If you work in sales, you can reach more prospects, with a more compelling presentation. If you’re in production, you can collaborate, innovate and produce with shorter timelines and smaller budgets. And if you’re an owner, executive or shareholder, these improvements will contribute to a better bottom line. Please enjoy ADVANCED NOTICE. It’s an exciting time! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact one of our sales reps or service engineers, or contact me at mmulford@advanced-inc-com. Regards, Mark Mulford PRESIDENT & CEO Revolutionary LifeSize Brings Affordable HD to Video Conferencing There has been a lot of press recently about the resurgence of video conferencing as a critical enterprise communications tool. With new communications standards, compression technology and a decrease in the cost of ownership of broadband connectivity, video conferencing may finally deliver on its early promise. Remember its early promise? Wasn’t it supposed to eliminate the expense of business travel? Facilitate collaboration between teams from around the world? Connect customers, suppliers, partners and colleagues in a cost effective, and efficient manner? Did that happen? Fast forward to now and welcome to LifeSize High Definition video conferencing. Whereas traditional video conferencing requires a huge infrastructure commitment, dedicated ISDN lines and proprietary tech- nology on both ends of the conference, the HD conference of today is easy to set up, inexpensive, delivers high definition video and sound and is available across existing network infrastructures. With the revolutionary and highly praised LifeSize video communications, video conferences are 10 times better with true high definition video resolution of 1280 See LifeSize on page 8 Google Proves Value of Streaming Media By now, everyone has heard of Google’s acquisition of YouTube, the video streaming website which allows people to watch and share original videos worldwide through the web. So, what is it about video streaming and why were the likes of Google and Yahoo fighting it out to take over this company? Video streaming is definitely not a new technology but the use of this technology is growing rapidly. So what exactly is streaming? Streaming, or webcasting, is an easy to use and affordable technology for playing audio and video files (either live or prerecorded) from a web page. A user can view the audio or video files directly from the web server. Because the media is “streamed” users avoid time consuming downloads of large files. Participants can also watch or listen to a live event remotely. The most significant, and most exciting, enterprise development is streaming “rich media” which combines audio/ video with content from other software applications such as powerpoint, word and excel. This enhanced experience makes streaming media extremely attractive for educational institutions and corporations. As an example, a video of a university professor can be streamed along with their supporting powerpoint slides, whiteboard notes and other visual references to provide a deep learning experience. In the corporate world, executive briefings can feature live video of the CEO along with supporting charts, tables and other graphics to deliver a more expanSee Mediasite on page 3 Advanced Presentation Solutions ¥ PH: 905-502-1110 ¥ www.advanced-inc.com ¥ [email protected] ADVANCED NOTICE Pg2 N E W S , R E V I E W S A N D P R E V I E W S F RO M A D VA N C E D P R E S E N TAT I O N S O L U T I O N S Specialists In AV PRODUCTS INCLUDING: PROJECTORS • PLASMA/LCD MONITORS • INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARDS • VIDEO CONFERENCING • CONTROL & SOUND SYSTEMS • M-PDP PLASMA WALL • MEDIASITE PRESENTATION RECORDERS AV SERVICES INCLUDING: INSTALLATION • CONSULTING • PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE • AND MORE! As is true with IT infrastructures, AV downtime is not an option. To ensure things move smoothly, a host of new solutions are entering the market. One such product is Roomview by Crestron Electronics. It allows IT administrators to manage AV assets from anywhere in the world and employ the same functionality from network management software tools like HP’s Openview. All with the addition of a Crestron media controller and C2enet card. From a remote support and monitoring perspective this is pretty exciting. Each individual room can have a corresponding web page setup to allow a manager to help a struggling user and be the first line of support. The Roomview system can also be programmed to perform such basics as; • monitoring the hours of use logged on any given projector • sending a message when the lamp life is low • powering down projectors on a specific network at a specified hour • users in a room can send help requests to the Roomview PC by accessing a touch panel or web browser. In a nutshell, from any PC on the LAN or WAN, Roomview offers a simple “at a glance” view of the entire control system network and the latest version gives the ability to simultaneously view more than 250 rooms from a single screen! For more information on how AV assets can be centrally managed, call 905502-1110 or visit www.advanced-inc.com. That’s the holy grail for exhibitors, event producers and advertisers, as increasingly sophisticated consumers become more and more cynical towards multimedia displays. In order to attract attention and to excite, capture and engage walk-by traffic, marketers are looking to innovative, unique products that deliver the elusive “WOW Factor”. In Canada, the best choice is Infinite Plasma™, available exclusively from Advanced Products Group. The revolutionary M-PDP consists of bezel-less, high-resolution plasma displays that infinitely connect to any size or shape imaginable. Maximum visibility & minimum space requirements creating the ultimate flexibility for event planners, booth designers, architects and more. Infinite Plasma™ is comprised of 42” plasma panels that deliver a HD quality resolution and high contrast image with stateof-the-art color reproduction. With minimal depth and weighing less than 60 pounds per panel, Infinite Plasma™ can be wall mounted, suspended from the ceiling or displayed free standing. Preconfigured mounting brackets and stands are available. Infinite Plasma: Seamless & Thin Compared to other video wall options, which are at least 17” deep or bordered with a 1/2” inch seamlines, Infinite Plasma, at just 3” deep and a 1/8" bezel is clearly superior for most applications. "We are very excited to bring this revolutionary display technology to Canada,” says Mark Mulford, President and CEO of Advanced Products Group. “Once event planners and their clients get a look at the amazing picture quality and incredible flexibility of M-PDP, they’re going to be blown away. And it will be really interesting to see the creative applications of this technology because Infinite Plasma is limited only by one’s imagination”. Bridgit is PC connectivity software that provides a quick and easy way to share voice, video and data over the Internet. Users simply create a conference by opening Bridgit software and assigning a name and a password. Then they invite participants by email who, once they join are ready to begin sharing voice, video and data in a secure and reliable environment. No installation is required. Industry guru Gary Kayye of Kayye Consulting emphatically asserts, “this blows away WebEx and all the over-bloated, overengineered Internet-based web conferencing software. Bridgit is all you really need for over 95% of those applications and unlike all of the others, it's simple to use and works 100% of the time.” The unique features of Bridgit include: • Desktop sharing – Share desktops instantly and alternate desktop control with ease. As well, several people • • can write over information on a shared desktop at the same time. • Integrated audio and video – View video from as many as four participant sites. The built-in VoIP feature allows participants to be heard without the need for an additional audio conference bridge. SMART Board integration – If you already have a SMART Board™ interactive whiteboard, you can write directly into an open Notebook file. Firewall compatibility – The software is designed to work with corporate firewalls, which makes it simple to set up a conference because no special configurations are required. For Rent: Video Conferencing Room Can you really afford two days out of the office for a two hour meeting that occurs once a year? That's the typical price for many people who have to travel to distant locations for a meeting that lasts less than half a day. Your time is valuable, not only to your company but to you as well. The uncertainty and frustration of business related travel makes it difficult to manage costs, productivity and personal energy. Videoconferencing offers an effective and efficient solution to these problems. But do you need your own dedicated facility, or do you simply need access to one from time to time? That’s a question facing many business professionals. The solution? Rent a video conferencing room whenever the need arises. Advanced Presentation Solutions has a fully equipped videoconferencing room available to meet the varied needs of the business community. Our Lifesize HD video conferencing system is state-of-the-art, offering high-definition video resolution and outstanding sound. A wireless remote control with a graphical user interface makes the systems as easy to use. The costs of renting a videoconference room are much lower than a business trip. And the increased productivity is huge. Our rates run from $200 - $250 per hour for use of the room and equipment plus long distance phone charges, if any. For longer conferences, or more frequent usage, rates are negotiable. Service is available Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Need Replacement Projector Lamps? Talk to the Lamp Experts at Advanced. The heart of modern projectors, whether LCD, DLP or LCOS, is the lamp. And while huge improvements have been made in the electronics of projectors, so too has been the progress in design and material used in lamps. Technically a high intensity discharge lamp (HID), today’s modern projector lamps are more efficient than fluorescent and incandescent lamps and operate under high temperature and pressure. They are most commonly metal halide which gives a white (even bluish) picture of up to 3,500 lumens. As lamp usage increases, lamp output diminishes, dropping by approximately 50% after 1,000 hours for most lamps. Modern projectors are increasingly robust and reliable so most users should expect to replace lamps several times over the life of their projector. With lamps in the $400-$500 price range, this is not an insubstantial event. Then of course the opportunity cost of “losing” a lamp minutes before that key presentation (not least in stress levels) can of course be very high. So it makes good commercial sense to do everything possible to both maximize the life of one’s projector lamp as well as be prepared for its inevitable replacement. Lamp Care - Important Tips • Never let the projector overheat • Remove dust from filters and airflow ducts regularly • Follow user manual instructions for powerdown (run the fan after the lamp is powered-off) • Never touch a bulb with your fingers – always use a cloth for handling • Hot elements are delicate – avoid moving the projector while hot • As “prevention is better than cure” take out a preventative maintenance contract on all projectors. Lamp Replacement Options: • Lamp Module (lamp, housing and reflector). A module is a complete unit that can be installed without technical knowledge in a few minutes. - The best option. • Lamp only (… plus a screwdriver!). A lamp only replacement involves re-seating the lamp in the old housing – not an easy job for the non-expert that can lead to damage. - If in doubt, we always recommend purchasing replacement modules. • Original manufacturer replacement. Modules supplied by the original manufacturer of the projector. An obvious and safe choice. Advanced supplies original lamps for all projectors used in Canada. • Compatible Lamp. There are a growing number of these on the market, often at bargain prices, but great caution is needed. Non-branded lamps are often of unknown manufacturing standard (ie: no recognized accreditation e.g. ISO9001). Warranties are limited or non-existent, and performance can be variable. - Advanced does not recommend the use of these products. • Branded Compatible Lamps. Slightly cheaper than original product while maintaining the same quality. Branded Compatible Lamps are manufactured to ISO9001 standards, do not infringe copyright and carry full warranty. - Advanced is enthusiastic in endorsing these Branded Compatible Lamps as an alternative to original product. Whether you’re looking for optimum lamp care regime or a cost effective replacement strategy, Advanced can help. We have the largest selection of replacement lamps in Canada, and can supply 99% of all lamps in production. We offer lamp installation services and full preventative maintenance services on all AV equipment (including lamps). Call 905-502-1110 or visit www.advanced-inc.com.
