The two FICON channels are defined as spanned across CSS0, CSS1, CSS2, and CSS3
(only CSS1 is shown in our example). The channels are FICON Express8S LX features (FC
0409), using PCHID 399 (CHPID 21) and PCHID 3E1 (CHPID 25).
The SAN768B-2 FICON Director has connectivity to the z196 server on port x92 and port
xA3. All the ports in the FICON Director are longwave (LX) ports. The SwitchID (Switch #)
and the Switch Address (Switch @) are both set to (hex) 65. These are specified in the IODF.
The Switch Address is the Domain ID specified in the FICON Director and is defined as
decimal, for example:
SwitchID / Switch Address of 65 (IODF) would equal a Domain ID of 101 (switch)
The SAN384B-2 FICON Director has connectivity to storage devices on port x41 and x11. All
of the ports in the FICON Director are longwave (LX) ports. The Switch ID (Switch #) and the
Switch Address (Switch @) are both set to (hex) 66. The Switch ID is specified in the IODF.
The Switch Address is the Domain ID specified in the FICON Director.
The FICON Directors are connected by two Inter-Switch Link (ISL), which consist of two fiber
optic cables connected to ports xB4 and xC6 in switch 65 and ports x00 and x20 in switch 66.
If the FICON Directors are connected, they build a High Integrity Fabric, which is required to
support cascaded FICON Directors. The ISLs are transparent in the path from the System z
server to the CU and do not require any definitions in the IODF.
An IBM System Storage DS8000 is connected to the SAN384B-2 FICON Director on port 41
and the 11. The two host adapters are installed in the DS8000 supporting longwave (LX)
laser. Port numbers 0133 and 0333 in the DS8000 are used to connect to the FICON Director.
Two logical control units (9000 and 9100) are defined that have devices 9000-90FF or
9100-91FF assigned. The DS8000 has the zHPF feature enabled.
A maximum unrepeated distance of 10km (6.2 miles) is supported by the longwave laser (LX)
feature at 16Gbps when using 9µm single mode (SM) fiber optic cables. The fiber optic cables
have an LC Duplex connector at both ends to connect to the z196 FICON Express8S
channels, to the ports in the FICON Directors, and to the DS8000 host adapters.
Note: The SAN384B-2 and SAN768B-2 FICON Directors support 25km ISL links with
FC2881 at 8Gbps LX.
7.3 Tasks and checklist
In this section, we provide an overview of the required tasks and the checklist that we used to
make sure that all hardware and software prerequisites were met before starting the
configuration tasks.
7.3.1 Tasks
Figure 7-2 on page 200 shows the main steps that are required to define and activate a
cascaded FICON Director configuration.
