Welcome to KeyPoint Technologies® AdaptxtTM text entry solution for hard and soft keyboard devices.
This user manual explains how to use Adaptxt keyboard on Android mobile device. KPT also provides an
online support section on the website: www.adaptxt.com

3. What is Adaptxt?
Adaptxt is the next generation of text input software, providing text entry assistance on hard keyboard and
touch-screen devices. Adaptxt powered by Predictive Text2.0 engine provides accurate and relevant next
word prediction, error-correction & word completion inputs by combining the best of artificial intelligence
and computing technology.
As the user starts typing, the Adaptxt keyboard provides word suggestions in the Suggestion Bar and starts
learning and adapting to the user’s writing style to provide personalized suggestions. Adaptxt provides two
types of add-on dictionaries:

Language dictionaries:
These dictionaries work simultaneously and provide multilingual suggestions to users who need to move
quickly between different languages during text input. Each dictionary comes with a language specific onscreen keyboard.

Specialized dictionaries:
These dictionaries provide industry-specific terminology, acronyms, company names and web addresses.
They cater to different professional sectors such as Medicine, Business, Law, Finance, and IT & Telecom.
These dictionaries are also available in multiple languages.
The Language and Specialized add-ons can be downloaded from Adaptxt Store, as explained in the
following sections.
4. Setting up Adaptxt
Adaptxt can be downloaded from the Google Play Store, GetJar or the Amazon Appstore and installed
directly on the mobile device.
Once Adaptxt has been downloaded on the phone, tap on the Adaptxt icon
from the phone menu
and the following screens would appear sequentially through the installation process (1-8).

1. Tap on Accept>Setup>Next
2. When the Adaptxt store
screen is displayed, tap and
download the
Language/Specialized add-ons
required.
3. Tap on the Back key>Next
4. Enable Adaptxt in Keyboards
and input methods>Next
5. Select and set Adaptxt as the
default keyboard from the list.

The on-screen keyboard and the word suggestions in the Suggestion Bar will correspond to the language
priorities defined in the Adaptxt settings.
5. Predictive and Multi-tap Mode
On the Phone Keypad, text can be entered using Predictive mode or Multi-tap mode, to switch between


both modes tap on the ABC Key
as seen below.
In Predictive mode, only one key press is required to enter each character. For example, to enter the word
“text”, tap the following keys once: 8, 3, 9 and 8. Adaptxt will also provide other possible matches for the
same key sequence.
In Multi-tap mode, tap on each key multiple times to get
the desired character. For example, to enter the word
“text”, tap on the following keys in sequence with a gap
of about a second between them. For “t”- tap on key 8
once, “e” - tap on key 3 twice, “x” - tap on key 9 twice,
and “t”- tap on key 8 once.
6. Voice Input

Press and release the Microphone Key
to activate voice input and enter text through voice
recognition. Start speaking as soon as the “Speak now” message appears.
7. Dictionaries
7.1 Language and Specialized Add-ons
The language and Specialized add-ons can be installed during the installation process or later from Adaptxt
store. These add-ons are designed to work simultaneously and provide multilingual suggestions to users
who toggle between different languages while typing.

7.2 Changing Add-ons


Swipe across the space bar key to switch between various add-ons while typing.
The name of the selected add-on will be displayed on the space bar of the keyboard.
8. Using the Suggestion Bar

Adaptxt offers error corrections and relevant word predictions on the suggestion bar while typing. This
feature enables the user to type less and write more using the personalized suggestions.


The Suggestion Bar above the keyboard provides auto correction and next word predictions that are
relevant to the context being typed.
Tap on any of the suggestions to enter it in the text.


To view more suggestions, tap on
, which expands the suggestion bar as shown above.
Adaptxt provides auto spacing for punctuations in the form of smart punctuations while typing.
9. Search Meaning of Words

Long press on a word in the Suggestion bar will allow the user to look up the meaning of the word on
Wikipedia; the user will be directed to the link with the word’s meaning and other relevant information.

1. Cut: Tap on the key to cut and save the selected text.
2. Copy: Tap on the key to copy and save the selected text.
3. Paste: Tap on the key to paste the copied text.
4. Select: Tap on the select key
to activate the
feature, then use the navigation key to define the starting
point of the text selection and use the Right/Left key to
select/de-select the text accordingly. (Image 11.
5. Backspace: Tap to delete the text.
6. Navigation Keys: The up, down, left and right keys can be
used to navigate across the editor fields and select text.

12. Adaptxt Quick Settings Screen
This key can be used to access frequently used features and customization options.


Long press and release the Quick Settings key
Quick Settings gives access to the following features:

Private Mode: With private mode on, Adaptxt dictionary does not
learn user typed words.
Themes: Tap to select the preferred theme.
Remove Accents: Tap to remove all accents or diacritics from the
text entered.
Keyboard Customization: Users can select the color of each
keyboard element, swap keys, resize the keyboard elements and
have access to other valuable features.
Settings: A shortcut key to access all the Adaptxt settings.
ATR Options: Allows adding and deleting of ATR shortcuts.






12.1 Private Mode
Using the Private Mode feature, the user can prevent Adaptxt from learning new words.





To access this feature: Long press and release the Quick settings key
Mode to enable it and tap twice to disable it.
By default Private mode is always switched OFF.
While enabling ‘Private Mode’, the following pop up screen is displayed:
> Tap once on Private
Press OK to enable Private Mode.
When ‘Private Mode’ is switched on, as an indication the suggestion bar will display a small icon at the top
left side as seen below.

Tap on ‘Private Mode ON’ to switch it OFF. The Adaptxt learning engine will start learning the entered
words again.
12.2 Remove Accents and Diacritics
Remove Accents and Diacritics feature can be accessed in the following way:

Long press and release the Quick settings key
>Remove Accents and Diacritics to use it.
Example:
1. If the text entered is “Café” as shown below:
3. A notification will be displayed.
2. Select and tap on the Remove Accents and
Diacritics option.
4. The accents / diacritics free text will be rendered
as “Cafe”.
12.3 Keyboard Customization

Keyboard Customization is offered as a premium feature that can be purchased from the Adaptxt store.



1. Reset:
I.
Press the reset button to revert back to the
default keyboard state.

Each feature needs to be reset individually.
2. Undo: Tap on the key to revert back to the
previous state.
3. Save:

Press the Save button to save key height, suggestion
bar height, and font size and swap key
customizations. These changes will be applied to all
available themes.

Use the Save as button to save the Key shape, font
style, background picture, keyboard color, and font
color changes as a new custom theme.
4. Exit: Tap to exit the keyboard customization feature.

from the available list.

12.3.3 Background Picture
1. Tap on the Portrait Background/ Landscape
Background mode option.
5. Use the Transparency slider to adjust the
transparency of the background image.
2. Select an image from Gallery or tap on Camera to
take a picture.
3. Using the Android crop tool select the area that
needs to be displayed.
4. Select Save to apply the settings and position the
background image or Discard to exit the process.


Tap on the Keys/Suggestion bar/Background color features individually and drag your finger across the swatch
pallet to select the respective colors.

Tap on the Primary Font (Q,W,E,R,T,Y,..) /Secondary Font (1,2,3,4,5,6,..) /Suggestions color features
individually and drag your finger across the swatch pallet to select the respective colors.

(Max) to increase font size and from right (Max) to

13. Accessing Adaptxt Settings
The Adaptxt Settings can be accessed in the following ways:


Long press and release the Quick settings key
>tap on Settings.
Alternatively, access the Adaptxt Settings by tapping on the Adaptxt icon on the device menu.
The following functions are available through the Adaptxt Settings Menu (Image 12:
1. Adaptxt Store: To download, enable, disable, and uninstall language add-ons, specialized add-ons, themes
and to unlock premium features.
2. Personalize Suggestions:
a. My Dictionary: To view and manage words in your personal dictionary.
b. Learn from: To learn from social networks, SMS and phonebook to provide personalized suggestions.
c. Social Account Manager: To add and remove Facebook and Twitter accounts.
d. ATR (Automatic Text Replacement): To enable/disable ATR feature.
e. Shortcuts and Expansions: To create and delete ATR shortcuts.
3. Themes and Layouts: To select the preferred theme and
layout.
4. Keyboard Customization: Provides various premium
keyboard customization options.
5. Advanced Settings:
a. Auto Capitalization: To enable/disable capitalization of
proper nouns and words at the beginning of a sentence.
b. Auto Correction: To enable/disable Auto Correction
feature.
c. Auto Correction Mode: To define the strength of Auto
Correction.
d. Ext. Character Bubble: To display special characters in a
pop-up window.
e. Sound on keypress: Select this option to enable sound on
each key press.
f. Vibrate on keypress: Select this option to allow haptic
feedback for each key press.
g. Pop-up on keypress: Select this option to allow each
keypress to render a pop-up.

 In order to start using Adaptxt, at
least one add-on dictionary needs
to be installed and enabled.


 Tap on the Priority tab.
 Drag and Drop any of the add-ons
using the scroll handle on the left
to change dictionary priorities.
 Word suggestions and error
corrections will be generated
based on the prioritized add-ons.

Adaptxt provides Premium keyboard

 Tap on the lock icon to unlock
the premium features.
 The user is then directed to the
Playstore payment page.
 The premium features are
unlocked after the payment is
completed through the app
store.
 Finally, the unlocked
confirmation icon is displayed
and the user can access and
utilize the premium features.

13.2 My Dictionary Screen


To access this feature: Tap on Adaptxt Settings > Personalize Suggestions > My Dictionary.
This screen is used to view and manage all user specific words .By default Adaptxt learns user typed
words and adds them to the personal dictionary (passwords are not learnt). Words are not learnt when
Private Mode is turned ON.
Main functions in My Dictionary:






Back up My Dictionary: Select this feature to back up all the user specific words saved in the personal
dictionary (Image 13)
Restore: used to restore words that were previously saved.
Delete word: Tap on the bin symbol
adjacent to the word to be removed from My Dictionary.
Delete all: Select Delete all > Press OK (Image 14.
Add: Tap on Add > Type the word that needs to be added >Press OK. Only unique words can be added to
the user dictionary (Image 15)
Search: Tap on Search > Type the word in the search field to look for it (Image 16).

13.3 Learn from


To access this feature: Tap on Adaptxt Settings > Personalize Suggestions > Learn from.
This feature allows Adaptxt to learn data from contacts, social networking accounts and messages to
provide personalized suggestions.
13.4 Social Account Manager


To access this feature: Tap on Adaptxt Settings > Personalize Suggestions > Social Account Manager.
The user can add/remove social accounts here.

Press and hold the “Share” Key

13.5 ATR (Automatic Text Replacement)




To access this feature: Tap on Adaptxt Settings > Personalize Suggestions > ATR.
ATR can also be accessed through the Quick Settings key also.
ATR or Automatic Text Replacement allows the user to assign a certain text or phrase to a shortcut. The
user can create custom shortcuts for multiple phrases.
The ATR shortcut is displayed in a blue font color in the suggestion bar. All shortcuts are displayed by a
distinct “+” symbol before the text.
13.6 Shortcuts and Expansions






Tap on Shortcuts and Expansions option to access the
ATR screen.
Tap on the menu button to add or delete shortcuts
(Image 17).
Note:
The user needs to type in the entire shortcut, for the
expansion to appear in the Suggestion bar (Sbar).
Generate ATR Shortcut can be used to generate a
shortcut automatically based on the expansion entered.
ATR is enabled by default, tap the check box to enable or
disable ATR accordingly.
By default one ATR per add-on will be present in the ATR
list.

1. Type “cul” in the Shortcut text box. Next, type “call
you later.” in the Expansion text box (Image 18).

2. Tap on ‘Done’ to save the ATR shortcut or tap
on ‘Cancel’ to discard the process (Image 19).

3. Go back to message editor and type “cul” in the text
box and the same word is shown in the suggestion
bar as “+Cul” (Image 20).

4. Tapping on “+Cul” will enter the expansion
“call you later.” in the text box (Image 21).

Deleting a shortcut

To delete ATR words present in the list individually, press the bin symbol
adjacent to the ATR word to
be deleted.
To delete all the ATR words present in the list, tap on Menu key > Delete All >OK.

13.7 Themes & Layouts

To access this feature: Tap on Adaptxt Settings >Themes and Layouts.
13.7.1 Themes


To select theme: Quick Settings Key>Themes> Select the
desired theme.
Tap on the Keyboard Theme option to select between the
provided themes, by default the theme is set as the Bright
Theme.

13.7.2 Layouts


To select a keyboard layout: Adaptxt Settings> Themes
and Layouts> Keyboard Layouts> Select the desired
layout.
The user can tap and choose between:
 Standard keyboard: It provides a PC-like keyboard
layout designed specifically for each language.
 Phone Keypad: It provides a 12-key layout if
available based on the language selected.
13.8 Auto Capitalization


Selecting this option will automatically capitalize proper nouns, words at the beginning of a sentence and
words based on punctuations.
Tap on Adaptxt Settings>Advanced Settings>Tap on Auto Capitalization to enable/disable it.
13.9 Auto Correction and Revert Correction
13.9.1 Auto Correction
 Tap on Adaptxt Settings>Advanced Settings>Tap on Auto
Correction to enable/disable it.
 The suggestion is displayed in blue font color along with a blue



cross symbol
on the left hand side of the word (Image 22).
Tap on the space key to replace the mistyped word with the
suggested word.
Tap on the blue cross
to dismiss the auto-corrected word.
If the typed word is not present in any of the installed Adaptxt
dictionaries, it will be saved in My Dictionary.
Note: Auto Correction is enabled by default.

13.9.2 Auto Correction Modes

This setting is used to define the strength of auto correction; it is
set to Medium by default (Image 23).

Tap on Adaptxt Settings>Advanced Settings>Tap on Auto
Correction Modes and choose from the three available modes:
High, Medium and Low.

13.9.3 Undo Auto Correction

This feature allows a user to undo auto correction and revert back to the initially typed word using the
Undo key

13.9.4 Revert Correction


This feature allows a user to revert back to the initially
typed word instead of the suggested auto correction
word.
Place the cursor just after the auto corrected word and
tap on the original word in the suggestion bar to replace
the auto corrected word.
13.10 Extended Character Bubble



To access this feature: Adaptxt Settings >Advanced
Settings > Tap to enable/disable the feature.
This feature displays special characters in a pop-up
window.
Tapping on each key will render different extended
characters, example: The character “A” renders the
following extended characters.
13.11 Support



To access this feature: Adaptxt Settings >Help> [email protected].
This option allows the user to send an email to our product support team regarding feature requests,
queries or concerns regarding Adaptxt.
Tap on the option and Adaptxt will open the user configured email client, with predefined content in
email address, subject and body fields.
14. Keyboard Screens
The Adaptxt keyboard consists of the following three screens:
1. Primary Keyboard Screen:
 This is the default home screen.

To switch to Secondary keyboard, tap the Quick settings key
once.

key to access the Tertiary keyboard.

15. Other Keyboard Functions
15.1 Special Characters
15.2 Lower Case and Upper Case
To enter special characters like "[", "]","<" ,">" ,"{"
,"}" etc, the following options are available:
 On the Primary Keyboard press and hold the keys
with special characters to render them on the
editor (Image 24).
 Special characters can also be entered directly by
switching to the Secondary and Tertiary keyboard
screens (Image25 & 26).


Press the Caps key
on the keyboard
once to switch from lower case to upper case
or twice to enable caps lock. Tap again on the
Caps key to return to lower case.
Character keys and word suggestions will
change case accordingly.
15.3 Smileys

Long press on the ‘:-)’ key
to select and insert Smileys.
