1 ECHO User Manual
This document serves as a brief instruction manual for the ECHO optimisation tool. It describes the
operation of the ECHO GUI and describes the steps involved in carrying out the more common tasks.
1.1 ECHO Front End
Figure 1 - The ECHO Front End GUI
The front end GUI is presented on starting the application. The menus and buttons are divided into
groups that perform similar functions. The buttons and fields have tool tip help that gives a brief
description of the operation associated.
The Current Network Metrics and the Best Network Metrics display the values for the most important
of the metrics for the networks under investigation. These values are updated during optimisation and
manual adjustment of the network. The constraint satisfaction icon indicates whether the current
network satisfies the limits defined in the scenario file.
1.2 ECHO Information Windows
The ECHO tool has six windows that graphically represent features of the network. Each window uses
a 2-dimensional plan view of the scenario as a basis. We will describe each in turn.
