Exemplar for internal assessment resource Technology 3.1B for Achievement Standard 91608 Grade Boundary: Low Excellence 1. The student has undertaken comprehensive brief development to address an issue within a determined context (Data Management). This requires justifying why the specifications allow a judgement of an outcomes ‘fitness for purpose in the broadest sense.’ To enable this justification: context considerations were linked to the issue and solution, forming the basis for an initial conceptual statement. (Portfolio Excerpt 1) iterative consultation and feedback informed the development and refinement of the brief and specifications. (Portfolio Excerpt 2) (Portfolio Excerpt 4) each context consideration was explored in more detail, which then informed the specifications for the brief. (Portfolio Excerpt 3) These are clearly linked to stakeholder consultation. (Portfolio Excerpt 2) a final brief was developed that reflects the decisions made throughout practice and that includes refined specifications that allow the outcome to evaluated as fit for purpose in the broadest sense. (Portfolio Excerpt 3) The student went on to justify the final solution against the requirements of the brief, including main context considerations, in the final evaluation. By discussing the viability of the solution and its potential fitness for purpose in its broadest sense, and using stakeholder feedback to validate conclusions, this substantiated the justification that the specifications resolved the client’s issue. (Portfolio Excerpt 4) To make this a more secure excellence, the student could have shown more detailed justification of why the specifications and the practices used to develop the outcome allow for a judgement of fitness for purpose in the broadest sense, particularly in terms of accuracy and efficiency considerations and the selection of solution options. © Crown 2012
