Any new, unread messages appear in bold and have a closed envelope icon ( ) next to them. Here’s how to open and read a message. Click the message you want to read. The contents of the message appear in the lower-right pane of Outlook Express, and the From and Subject information appear at the top of this pane. You can also open a message its own window—this is especially helpful when you want to read a long message. Simply double-click the message you want to read. The message appears in its own window. You can close the message’s window when you’re finished reading it by clicking the window’s close button. If a message has one or more files attached to it, a paper clip will also appear in this area. If a message contains an attachment, go to Step 5 to open it. If not, skip ahead to Step 6. (Optional) To open any files attached to a message, click the paper clip icon and then click the file you want to open from the list that appears from the paper clip. Sometimes you’ll want to print a copy of a message. Here’s how to do it: (Optional) To print a message, select File → Print from the menu, or press <Ctrl> + <P>. Click OK to print the message. 267 ! Quick Reference To Receive and Read E-mail Messages: 1. Start Outlook Express and click the Inbox folder. 2. Click the Send and Receive button on the Outlook Express toolbar. 3. Click or double-click the message you want to read.
