R 3 ZENITH GENERAL Introduction Thank you for choosing the ZENITH coffee grinder We hope you enjoy it! Read the user manual before using the machine. This guide contains important instructions for using the grinder correctly and safely. Always keep this manual close at hand for future reference. This guide must be looked after with care for the entire working life of the coffee grinder This guide reflect the current state of the grinder technology and shall not be considered obsolete solely because update at a later date on the basis of acquired experience. The manufacturer reserves the right to make modifications to this manual with no obligation to update previous version (except in exceptional cases). Warnings Never touch the machine with damp or wet hands. Never use the machine when barefoot. Never attempt to unplug the machine by pulling the power cord or the machine itself. Do not use the machine outdoors so it can be exposed to weather (rain, snow, frost). It will cause material damage to the machine. The appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Always use the appliance on a flat, steady surface that is able to support its weight. Always unplug the machine from the power supply before performing any cleaning or maintenance operations. Do not use water jets or non-suitable detergents for cleaning. In the case of machine breakdown or malfunction switch the machine off and do not tamper with it. 4 For repairs contact an authorized service center and request the use of original spare parts. Not observing of the above precautions may make the machine unsafe for future use. Do not leave the machine switched on when it is not in use. Unplug the machine when not in use. Do not obstruct the ventilation and/or heat dissipation openings and/or slits nor introduce water or any other liquids into same. Never insert spoons, forks or other utensils into the pouring lip, or into the coffee grain container for any reason whatsoever while the appliance is operating. Always switch off the appliance before removing blockages from the pouring lip. Never immerse the machine, plug or mains cable in water or another liquid. . Should a foreign object stop the motor, switch the machine off immediately and contact an authorized service center. R GENERAL ZENITH Precautions Always handle the machine with care to avoid the risk of machine failure. The packing materials (carton, cellophane, staples, polystyrene, etc..) can cut, wound or create hazards if used improperly or handled carelessly. Store such materials out of reach of children and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge. This symbol on the appliance or package means that the appliance must not be considered as normal household refuse. It must be handed over to an appropriate collection centre for recycling of electric and electronic appliances. Make sure that this appliance is disposed of correctly and you will be making your contribution to the prevention of negative health effects and harm to the environment. Recycling materials helps to preserve our natural resources. For more information about how to recycle this product, you can contact your local council office, local refuse disposal service or the retailer from whom you purchased the appliance. Before carrying out any installation or adjustment work, make sure to read and thoroughly understand the warnings in this manual. The company cannot be held liable for any damage to people or property resulting from failure to respect the instructions concerning safety, installation and maintenance enclosed in this manual. R If the power cord of this appliance is damaged, switch off the appliance and contact a professional and qualified technician for having it replaced. Should you decide to no longer use this appliance, we recommend that you make it inoperative by unpluging the appliance from the mains socket and cut off the power cord. All defects and/or abnormal machine behaviour shall be reported immediately to an authorized installation and/ or maintenance technician. Before connecting the machine, check that the electrical power supply corresponds to the specifications on the data plate. Should the machine plug not be compatible with your socket, have the plug replaced with a suitable type by a qualified technician, who should also check that the power outlet is suitable for the machine power requirements. Avoid the use of multiple-plug adapters and extension cords. The ground wire must be connected; the electrical system must meet the standards set by local safety laws and regulations. The machine must be installed by authorized and qualified personnel. Check that the machine components have suffered no damage during shipping. In the case defects or abnormalities are found, abort the installation and request a replacement. 5 ZENITH GENERAL Intended use This grinder dispenser has been designed for professional use by trained personnel. The grinder/dispenser must be used only for the application for which it was designed; that is, grinding roasted coffee beans. Any other use are considered improper and potentially dangerous. The manufacturer shall not be held responsible for damages deriving from improper or erroneous use of the machine. The appliance must not be used by children or people with reduced, physical, sensorial or mental abilities. It must also never be used by people without the necessary skills and experience unless under supervision or during training. Do not allow children to play with this equipment at any time. The machine is not designed for use in environmental conditions outside the -5 °C to +40 °C range. The user must respect the general safety regulations in force in the country in which the machine is installed and shall be responsible for ensuring that periodic machine maintenance is correctly done. i The persons installing and using the machine and doing machine maintenance shall inform the manufacturer of any defects or damages due to wear that might jeopardize the original safety features of the machine. The installer shall be responsible for checking that the machine is installed and operated in a suitable environmental condition thus not creating health or safety hazards for those using the machine. Any responsibility deriving from components manufactured and installed on the machine shall be assumed by the respective manufacturers; responsibility attributable to the persons authorized to use the machine shall be assumed by the customer. The machine is designed for 24-hour intermittent service. The machine components are designed and built to ensure at least 1000 hours’ operation. Good cleaning and maintenance also contribute to ensure long machine life. Note. Machines with the “EL MOTOR WITH THERMAL PROTECTION” sign are equipped with a device which protects the motor from overheating. Position the machine on a flat and stable surface, away from water and sources of heat. It should be located in a dry environment, since excessive humidity will affect the machine negatively. Do not cover the machine with plastic film or cloths. i Note: Make sure that air is able to circulate behind the machine (minimum 10 cm). Electrical connection Only connect the machine to a grounded power supply. Check the correct voltage and frequency on the technical data plate. Starting the grinder 01 Insert the container into its seat; positioning it so that the hole lines up with the screw on the back part of grinder. 10 02 Tighten the lock screw. R INSTALLATION AND START-UP ZENITH 03 04 Connect the machine to the mains socket and pull the tab at the bottom of the coffee bean container to open it. Remove the cover from the container and fill it with coffee beans. For ZENITH Manual and Automatic 01 02 Switch ON the grinder on the ON/OFF switch and grind until the desired amount of coffee has been grinded. Place the filter holder on the fork i Note: i Note: i Note: Each pull of the lever is a single dose of ground coffee. The number of dose can be seen on the counter. The appliance is equipped with a filter holder retaining device. WARNING! 03 Use the dose lever to dispense ground coffee. R To prevent damage and injuries, never place fingers or other items into the spout below the doser while ground coffee is being dispensed. 11 INSTALLATION AND START-UP ZENITH For ZENITH On Demand 01 02 After having filled the container with coffee beans (see instructions 1-4 “Starting the grinder ZENITH Manual and ZENITH On demand”), switch ON the grinder on the ON/OFF switch. Select single or double dose by pressing the corresponding keys or . i Note: i Note: Dispensing stops once the preset time has elapsed. The appliance is equipped with a filter holder retaining device. 03 Place the filter holder onto the fork and insert it against the filter holder restraint. 12 R OPERATION ZENITH Grinder fineness adjustment Use the grinding adjustment knob to set the grinding fineness. i Increase Decrease i Note: Turn the adjusting knob clockwise to increase grinding fineness or counter-clockwise to increase the grain size. Note: This setting is stepless and needs to be gradually changed. Grind some coffee between every two notches change. WARNING! If the knob is rotated one turn with a stationary motor, the grinder may stop. 01 Grinder dose adjustment ZENITH Manual and Automatic Use the dial under the doser lid to adjust the amount in each dose. i Increase Decrease Note: Turn the dial clockwise to reduce the amount or counterclockwise to increase it. 01 Ground coffee lever adjustment ZENITH Automatic To adjust the level of ground coffee in the doser, use the flag under the lid of the doser group. Use the two slots in the bottom part of the flag to adjust the level of the coffee in the doser.With the flag moved downwards, it is possible to work with a low level of ground coffee, while if it is moved upwards, it is possible to work with a high level of ground coffee inside the doser. We advise against operating fully automatic grinders and dosers when the coffee level flag is too low, since this could influence the regularity of the doses. 01 R 13 OPERATION ZENITH Spout orientation adjustment dispensing ZENITH On Demand Adjust the orientation of the dispensing spout to suit the filter holder used. 01 Filter holder fork height adjustment ZENITH On Demand Use a Philips screwdriver to loosen the fastening screw on the filter holder fork It is recommended not to unscrew the screw completely. Raise or lower the fork in order to adjust it according to filter holder used. Once having set the correct position, tighten the fork fastening screw. 01 14 R CLEANING AND CARE ZENITH Cleaning is fundamentally important to the good operation of the grinder and doser. Neglecting to clean the grinder and doser will allow aromatic oil substances from the coffee to turn rancid which will have a negative effect on coffee taste. A lack of proper cleaning will also impair the precision of the grinder causing irregular grinding size and doses. Before cleaning, make sure that the appliance is not connected to the mains power. WARNING! Always unplug the appliance from the mains power supply before carrying out any cleaning or maintenance operation. WARNING! Never pull on the power cord or the appliance when removing the plug from the mains power socket. Maintenance of the grinder WARNING! Maintenance operations must only be performed by qualified service engineers, authorised to perform such operations by the manufacturer. WARNING! Never perform makeshift or precarious repairs and never use non-original spare parts. For good appliance operation, it is necessary to check and if required, replace the grinders burrs for every 400 kg of coffee grinded. Daily cleaning - clean the dispensing spout ZENITH Manual and Automatic 01 Remove the rubber protection. R 02 Clean the dispensing spout using a brush. 15 CLEANING AND CARE ZENITH Weekly cleaning - coffee bean container 01 Close the coffee bean container by pulling the tab and remove the fastening screw on the side. Use a clean cloth to wipe away oil from the coffee beans. 02 Lift the lid and clean with a brush. Weekly cleaning - doser group ZENITH Manual and Automatic 01 Lift the doser lid and clean the group with a brush. 16 R CLEANING AND CARE ZENITH Weekly Cleaning - clean with Grindz 02 01 Close the bean stop in bottom of the bean hopper. Start grinder by pressing the ON/OFF switch or pushing the grinder start key for ZENITH On demand. Run grinder until no powder comes out of the grinder outlet. 2° 1° 2° 1° 03 Turn OFF the grinder, remove the bean hopper and pour out the remaining coffee beans. R 04 Reassemble bean hopper and fill with one cap of Grindz cleaning tablets and reopen bean stop. 17 CLEANING AND CARE ZENITH 05 Start the grinder again by pressing the ON/OFF switch or pushing the grinder start key for ZENITH On demand. Run until no more cleaning powder come out of the grinder. 18 06 Refill the bean hopper with fresh coffee beans. Make two cup of coffee and throw it away. Change of settings will be automatically saved and user defined settings will be loaded automatically if the grinder is restarted. When switching the appliance on, the following screen is shown for 7.5 seconds. Dose dispensing and setting (display) By pressing the key for one dose this icon lights up and the cup is filled during dispensing. By pressing the grinding start key for more than 0.3 seconds, dispensing and countdown until zero is stared. Once dispensing is completed, the countdown zero returns to its set value after one second. The single dose counter is increased of 1. By pressing the key for two doses this icon lights up and the cup is filled during dispensing. By pressing the grinding start key for more than 0.3 seconds, dispensing and countdown until zero are activated. Once dispensing is completed, the countdown zero returns to its set value after one second. The double dose counter is increased of 1. By pressing the increasing key or the decreasing key the dispensing time of the selected dose is increased or decreased. Continuous dispensing mode activation By pressing both keys and the continuous mode is activated. Both dose keys light up and the continuous dispensing symbol appears R . By pressing the grinding start key for more than 0.3 seconds, continuous dispensing is activated until the grinding activation key is released. By pressing one of the keys the automatic dose mode. or you return to 19 PROGRAMMING ZENITH On Demand Resetting dose counters By pressing both keys and for more than 5 seconds, both dose counters are reset. Function block By pressing both keys and and releasing them, all functions are blocked except the dose selection and the dispensing start. The equipment in question may not be used while awaiting service if there is any risk that the damage or defect would worsen.
