Maintenance and Test Procedures 12. If the reading is high, readjust the clutch by loosening the three adjusting bolts and repeat the test until the proper torque reading is obtained. 13. Repeat Steps 10, 11, and 12 but with the torque wrench being turned in the opposite direction. 14. Remove the torque wrench and adapter. 15. Reset the motor brake. 5.4.4. Brake Lining Wear Adjustment The gear motor brake is factory adjusted for maximum torque, correct plunger travel, and correct solenoid frame position. Adjustment is necessary when the ground plunger surface is behind the “reset” level of the label. 1. To check the air gap (Figure 5-3), view the ground plunger surface position directly behind the air gap reset label. To accurately check the air gap, press the solenoid plunger and allow it to snap out several times. 2. The air gap is decreased by turning both adjustment screws (R) equal amounts clockwise in increments of 1/8 turn until the ground plunger surface is at the “set” level of the label. Counterclockwise rotation increases the gap. Repeat Step 1. 3. The air gap can be set to 3/8 inch as alternate to visual method. Figure 5-1. Air gap SM 6455, Rev. 7, August 2010 5-11
