S W I T C H A N D C A B L E R E M O V A L : R e m o v e the t w o s c r e w s retaining the h e a d l a m p motor s w i t c h
(don't lose the t w o speed nuts) a n d let it h a n g from the harness. R e m o v e the t w o s c r e w s attaching
the h o o d release c a b l e (and the vent c a b l e s on pre-'67 cars), a n d let t h e m h a n g . Pull the headlight
s w i t c h k n o b out, press the spring-loaded release button o n the metal s w i t c h cover, a n d the knob
a n d shaft w i l l pull straight out. U s e a w i d e - b l a d e flat s c r e w d r i v e r (or the special w i p e r switch/
headlight s w i t c h nut tool, if y o u have one) to loosen a n d r e m o v e the s p e c i a l nut, a n d push the
headlight s w i t c h f o r w a r d through the cluster so it hangs o n the harness.
O n ' 6 3 - ' 6 6 c a r s , r e m o v e the s c r e w s attaching the parking brake h a n d l e support bracket from the
instrument panel b r a c e . Loosen the set-screw on the w i p e r s w i t c h k n o b a n d r e m o v e it, then r e m o v e
the retaining nut (with the s p e c i a l tool or the ends of n e e d l e n o s e pliers) a n d push the w i p e r s w i t c h
f o r w a r d out of the cluster so it hangs on the harness. Pull out the lighter e l e m e n t , r e m o v e the p o w e r
c o n n e c t o r on the b a c k of the h o u s i n g a n d the snap-on i l l u m i n a t i o n l a m p h o o d , a n d u n s c r e w the
round housing from the b a c k of the lighter assembly, w h i c h w i l l then c o m e out from the front (or
y o u c a n r e m o v e the h o u s i n g after the cluster is out of the c a r ) .
Insert the ignition key, turn it to the a c c e s s o r y position, then use the e n d of a bent-open m e d i u m s i z e paper c l i p in the little hole next to the key. Push the paper c l i p in against light spring pressure,
