6. Maintenance 6.5 Maintenance of the engine 6.5.3 Checking the engine oil level Collect old oil and dispose of it in an environment friendly manner. Only the maintenance work which has to be performed daily is included in this operating manual. Please refer to the engine operating manual and to Attention the maintenance instructions and intervals listed therein. Environment Do not permit oil to run onto the floor into the drains. Immediately replace damaged seals. 6.5.1 Filling up with fuel Only top-up by stationary motor. 1 No open fire. Danger Do not smoke. max Do not fill-up in closed rooms. DIESEL max. 5 l / 1.32 US gal OIL SAE 10W/40 1B20_5.cdr 1 • Position the vibration plate so that the motor is in vertically upright position. • Clean around the dipstick area. • Pull out dipstick (1) and wipe clean. • Push dipstick back in with twisting movement by hand, then pull out again with similar twisting movement. • Read off the oil level on the dipstick, and if necessary top to the “maximum” mark. B6599116.cdr • • • • Clean around the fuel filler socket (1). Open the fuel filler socket and 6.5.4 Check the water trap Visually check the fuel level. Top-up if necessary. All diesel oils sold as fuel and complying with the following minimum specification can be used: EN 590; DIN 51601 - DK; BS 2869 A1 / A2 or ASTM D 975 - 1D / 2D • Close the tank tightly. B5399027.cdr 6.5.2 Checking Cooling air-/combustion air-intake 3 Check the water trap on its water content every day, when the engine oil level is checked. The water which has collected is separated at a clearly visible line from the diesel fuel above it. • Open drain plug (3) and • drain the water outinto a suitable vessel. 1B20_3.cdr Check intake opening for combustion air and cooling air intakes. Remove coarse ostructions such as leaves, stones and earth. 43
